[2005] Custom Scroll Bar For MDI Parent?
Oct 15, 2008
i have a MDI Parent. As you know a MDI parent can have scroll bars. I want to make customized scroll bars. Meaning instead of windows default scroll bars i want just to images / buttons (arrows (up/down)) that when clicked will scroll up and down, and then others for left and right...
How do i do this? I dont want windows default scroll bars to appear.. i know can disable them but then is there a property / method to scroll in a direction, let my code do the work.... i would also then want it so as you scroll my custom scroll buttons wont go away, as you scroll they should stay in the same spot.. i think i can do that by a panel and docking, so that isnt important.

This is really annoying. I am implementing Google Maps in Windows Forms application via the WebBrowser control. The map and the directions are too large for the Window and I have the ScrollBarsEnabled = True but, the scroll bars never show up. The only way to get to the content that is 'off-screen' is by clicking and dragging the mouse downward. I have looked for other properties but, none seem to be appropriate.
I would be glad to provide code snippit if needed.

I'm trying to make a slider, or a custom scroll bar, whatever you want to call it, in VB 2010. But I want it to act as an usual scroll bar. I simply can't make it stay inside my form, it just moves around. I have a photo of my code and my designer down the thread. What should I add? I tried to make it stay inside Panel1.

I used a custom form in visual studio. I had set the parent form for mdicontainer as true. When I try to load the childform and the code is form2.show then my design for a custom form image is working but when I add the code:
form2.show form2.mdiparent = mdiparent it won't.
I had set the transparency as = red
backgroundcolor = red
formstyle = none
backgroundimagestyle = none
Everything works fine using a .gif image custom form image but when I put a code "mdiparent" it won't. It is important to put "form2.mdiparent=mdiparent" so that when I clicked the background image which is the "form1" or the parent form the form2 will not go to the back page of form1. It is possible to disable the click event of form1 so that when I clicked it the form2 will not go to its back.

I'm in need of a custom control that will allow me to do something like the attached image. It's basically a TreeView with the exception of having a row of PictureBoxes for each child node. I'd be happy with a ListView that could do this even. I tried it briefly with a DataGridView with ImageColumns but the "look" wasn't quite what I was after. I'd like the "Parent Node" text to be situated above the row of images and just can't seem to find a control that will allow this.

I created a simple custom controlled Panel for double buffering. When I use the control in my toolbox it works just fine, but when I attempt to add controls inside the panel those controls aren't staying when I move the panel around. My custom panel isn't acting as the controls' parent. I verified this by looking in the designer code.
I tested a standard panel on the same form and it works perfectly normal - as I drag the parent Panel the interior controls move along with it. It is only my custom Panel which doesn't seem to detect when another control is placed within it.
Here is my constructor
Public Class DBPanel
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox
Public Sub New()

I have a panel wich inherits from FlowLayoutPanel. I add a lot of picturebox to it. I allow the user to navigate through them with arrow keys. Since I have a lot of PictureBox, most of them doesn't appear at the visible rectangle of the panel. I want this panel to scroll to the selected control when user selects it. For select a PictureBox I made a class wich inherits from it and override the OnPaint sub. I also have a field m_selected to determine whether the PictureBox is selected or not. On OnPaint sub if this field is set to true, I draw an orange border to notify the user that this control is selected, otherwise I draw a simple black one. In the panel I also have a m_currentsel field to save the control wich is actually selected. When user selects a control this field contains the selected control.

I have a datagridview located in a tab of a tab control on a windows form. The data is populating to the grid with out any issues. My problem is that the sizing I'm making 2 of the column of data moves the last one partially off out side the normal size for the grid. I have Scrollbars set to both for the grid. But I do not get the Horizontal scroll bar. If I hover the mouse over the partially hidden cell I do see the full text in a tool tip.
Am I missing some thing on setting the scroll bars here.

My application uses a trackbar to sort images.It works best if the mouse wheel scroll lines value is one.I can advise my users to set the value themselves in the control panel having determined it is three, but I cant set a users scroll value to one for them.I would like to have some visual basic code in the form load that sets the scroll line value to one.

To summarize, my program uses a textbox to display the chatroom from a text file on the school network. When someone sends a message, it writes that message to the text box like so:My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(baseDir & room & ".txt", Message, True)
The baseDir is where the chat files are stored, and the room that the user is in can be altered by the user. created a scroll bar to use so when the chat room reaches a certain length of lines, you may use a scroll bar to view the whole chat. I realized that when someone sends a new message, the scroll bar then jumps back to the top of the text box. Is there any way to fix this, so that it will jump to the bottom each time someone types something new?
Dim lines As String() = IO.File.ReadAllLines(baseDir & room & ".txt")
Dim numLines As Integer = lines.Length
If numLines > 20 Then

I have a form with a tabcontrol(6 tabs) with a groupbbox on each tab page containing numerous NUDs. The NUDs need to be checked for either 0 (double) or 0.0 (decimal). I don't want to have to do this over and over:
vb.net
If Me.nudLinealFeet.Value = 0 Then
MessageBox.Show("Lineal Feet cannot equal 0.", "No Value Given")
End If
[code]....
but I can't figure out what to do since there are more than 1 "parent controls".

In VB6, if you put a picturebox on a form and then put a control inside the picturebox, then the control would be a child of the picturebox. Its location would be relative to the picturebox and not the form.If you do the same thing in VB 2005 Express , the control seems to still be a child of the form and not the picturebox (i.e. its location property is relative to the form).Is there any way to make a control or graphic inside a picturebox a child of the picturebox and not the form?

I have a form with a parent bindingsource showing details and a child bindingsource showing the multiple line items in a dgv. This relationship has the properties set to enforce the constraints and cascade the updates and deletes. When I add a new parent record there is a function for inserting default line items into the child. I have this code fr deleting a record,

edit: jmc posted a nice solution to this problem in the code bank just recently but I could not get it to work in 2005, this line, "AddHandler Me.LOTBindingSource.Adapter.RowUpdated, AddressOf parentAdapter_RowUpdated" throws an error. It say "Adapter is not a member of the System.windows.forms.bindingsource.

I have a user control and a panel on it in Dock fill format. Now this is exposed for the user to add on the form. Till this point fine. Now the user sees lot of events for the user control, which I want to actually link up with the panel on the usercontrol, because that is where I want things to happen . Is there any solution to link up the events in few lines of code than calling each event separately? I am also looking to expose only few events than all the base control events.

I am having an odd problem with the Horizontal Scroll Control in my program.I am using it to scroll a series of panels across a form.This is my code:
Private
Sub scrHoriz_Scroll(ByVal
sender As[code]....
The problem is that this works perfectly if I use the left and right arrows and it also works perfectly if I use the scroll bar's slider SLOWLY. If I scroll using the slider and move it quickly then the scroll gets out of sync.The small change and large change are both set to 1 and maximum is set to 8

How would I leave the vertical scroll position as it is and set the horizontal scroll position all the way left if it isn't already in that position? I've been using Me.AutoScrollPosition and have come up with code that is satisfactory but I haven't been able to always leave the vertical scroll position exactly as it is and just move the horizontal scroll position to the left limit.

I have a textbox that shows events on a program, which I add. I use the 'scroll bar' option on the textbox to show the vertical scroll bar, but how do I make it stay at the bottom most possible? I am using this code while I am trying to learn how to do what I want the scroll bar to:[code]But how do I get it so the scroll bar will stay at the bottom-most it can? I'd like the newest, most recent events to appear at the bottom of the textbox, and to have the user not have to scroll down every time something new is added.
