.NET Shared Function If Called Multiple Times Simultaneously?

Mar 25, 2010

Consider I have a shared function:Public Shared Function CalculateAreaFromRadius(ByVal radius As Double) As Double

[Code]...

If I have two or more threads in the same vb .net app and each of them calls the shared function at the same time with different RADIUS, will they each get their own AREA? I want to know for each call to the function if it is using same local variables or each call creates new instances of local variables? Will the answers to above questions be same If I have multiple (2+) single threaded apps and they all call the function at the same time with different RADIUS value?

Asp.net - AutoCompleteExtender WebService Fail To Be Called When Function Is Shared?

Oct 25, 2011

I had a problem (which is now fixed) but I've no idea why.I have an Ajax AutoCompleteExtender with a WebService method to populate like <WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function populateACE(prefixText As String) As List(Of String) However this didn't work - I put a breakpoint in, and it didn't even get hit. However... <WebMethod()> _ Public Function populateACE(prefixText As String) As List(Of String) does work (the only difference being not Shared).

Fair enough, but why? If you have an instance of a class then you can access Shared methods of it; if you don't have an instance of a class then you can access Shared methods of it. So what is going on behind the scenes?

Run The Same Task 5000 Times Simultaneously

Sep 28, 2011

I have an app that I query a database for IP information, then Ping the IP's and log the results to a database. This takes a long time (testing with 200 takes about 5 minutes as they are all sites across public internet) due to waiting for response from 1 ping before sending the next ping for the next site.

Prevent A Sub / Function From Firing Multiple Times On The Same Event?

Apr 1, 2009

I'm trying to prevent a sub / function from firing multiple times on the same event. My app is for handling inbound phone calls (tapi). The app is supposed to route calls based on the callerid number.

aircode below:

Code:

Private Sub OnNewCall(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As NewCallEventArgs) Handles tapiManager.NewCall
if newcall.callerid = "5551001" then
redirect(newcall)

[code]....

If callA.callerid = "5551001" then redirect(callA)but, once it is redirected to the new extension, do not then grab the call from the new extension and try to redirect again (resulting in infinite loop).I realize I could use an integer as a counter, but the problem is, I might actually get more than 1 call at the same time from the same callerid number. And, all the calls would need to be redirected (once).the calls do have properties like (which are unique identifiers to each call):

Code:

phcall.id and phcall.hashcode

I'm thinking I need to put that unique id into a temp var / array to run a check against to see if it has been redirected, if it has then skip, if it has not then redirect. The app would run 24x7, and I don't want the temp var / array to get too big, and would want to have it clean automatically (up on a timer maybe?)(I'm guessing it would be a dynamically growing array.)

Can't Simultaneously Instantiate Multiple Forms?

I used different backgroundworkers to instantiate some 'heavy' forms thinking that it will reduce the time to instantiate them if I did them at once but it looks like I am wrong since it is still taking about 43 seconds to load all of them. Am I missing something or do you have a tip on how I can speed up their instantiation?

As a start I have limited the UpdatedPostion to horizontal movement as the aliens only go side to side unless they hit an edge.[code]...

C# - Disable Multiple Network Connections, Only Allow One Simultaneously?

Feb 17, 2011

We are looking to design a security application that does the following on laptops:If the ethernet adapter is used (cable plugged in) disable/block all other network connections (wireless WIFI, mobile broadband (PPP), virtual VPN adapters etc)When ethernet adapter is not being used again, all connections allowed. We have looked in the WMI a lot but there are no good ways of doing this. Only disabling the network connection is not secure enough because most mobile broadband applications try to re-establish the connection. This should be an application that works on all laptop vendors without any user interaction (such as choosing interfaces etc..).

Change Multiple Items Simultaneously In DataGridView?

I'd like to allow the user to select up to an entire column of cells and type and/or paste a single value that would then change the value of all the selected cells in the DataGridView to the value that was typed or pasted. I understand this is probably two separate answers, but perhaps if there is a way to set the contents of the clipboard with the value typed, I was thinking it may work well to identify both things I want to do.

Call A Function From Inside Another And Suspend It Until The Called Function Is Finished

Jan 25, 2010

How can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).

Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:

1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event.
2. From the click event I call a function
3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read.
4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.

The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.

I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.

Edit Items In Multiple List Boxes Simultaneously?

Jul 14, 2011

Using Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008, I have created a Windows form with multiple tabs and questions. Each question has an associated drop-down listbox that the user will eventually click on to enter his or her response. My client has now informed me that she wants to change the standard responses in each response box. There are well over 100 drop-down listboxes, all with the same items, and they all must be changed.

I originally inputted the items using design view. Would someone please tell me if it's possible to edit all of these boxes in the design view simultaneously? When I control + click on more than one box, the Edit Items option that is normally available disappears. Is there a way to do it in code in a manner that would save back into design view?

.net - Copying Multiple Worksheets Simultaneously To Preserve Chart References?

Apr 22, 2009

I've created a two-worksheet template in Excel - the first sheet is for pretty charts, and the other sheet is for the data that drives those charts. I've written a vb.net 2005 app that can dump in all my data on the second worksheet, and the chart worksheet updates perfectly.I would like to do this report several times over in the same workbook. (So the tabs would read 'Person1 - Chart', 'Person1 - Data', 'Person2 - Chart', 'Person2 - Data', etc.)

My solution was to, for every person this report was going to be run for, copy the chart template, and then copy the data template. The problem is that every chart template that is created points to the original data worksheet. How can I set what worksheet each chart worksheet is pointing at?

Asp.net - Insert Function Is Called More Than Once?

I have a website where people send each other messages Recently I noticed that sometimes the same message is sent more than once
For example, a message is sent four times within three seconds or twice within a second.I do not understand how this could happen, once the user clicks on the button that sends the message .So all the window switches and a message showup saying "the mail is sent successfully." I checked that if the user refreshes the page after it sends a message, then really the message is sent again. But I do not think that's the case, becouse the message is sent twice within one second.I am writing in vb.net and using mysql data base.Maybe it's related to the queue for the db, i do not know. Here's the code:

Function calls:
Call GlobalFunction.update_mailbox_table(user_id, receiverId, txtMessage.Text, private_picture)
the insert function
Public Shared Sub update_mailbox_table(ByVal user_id As Integer, ByVal receiverId As Integer, ByVal message As String, ByVal[code].....
