I cannot figure out how to convert this code from C# to VB.net. It says - Argument not specified for parameter 'y' in the calling code below.

I have created a query off a dataset with a where = @param. This poulates a dgv.
I then have created the parameter by using the Parameter collection editor.
Then on my form I have Textbox1.Text that has the value I want to pass to the parameter @param.
How do I get that value in to the @param?
If I have a variable, X, of type SqlDecimal, that was instantiated without providing a decimal value parameter to the constructor, then the .IsNull property is True: Dim X As New SqlDecimal '.Value = Null..If I have a Stored Procedure that acepts a single parameter, @SqlDecimalParameter, of type Decimal, the value of this this parameter could be NULL or a decimal value. This is how I would normally call the stored procedure:[code]It seems like the 1st example should work. Am I missing something? after all, the Sql datatypes are designed to work with SQL Server, I thought.[code]I get the following error:Failed to convert parameter value from a SqlDecimal to a Decimal. It works when X.IsNull is True. How do you set the value of the PARAM object when it can be NULL?

Since the url got a maximum length 256, i need to use <param /> tag to help me pass values and also get values from aspx.
(the numbers of param is not fix)
I've been searching days for the example how to get this done.
I have the following VB.NET function, for example:Public Function MyFunction (Of TData) (ByVal InParam As Integer) As TDataEnd Sub
View 5 RepliesI'm converting some RDO code to ODBC Provider code in .NET.The problem is parameter names were not specified in the orignal code, but param values were retrieved by parameter name after the command was executed. Is there anyway to have parameter names populated by the provider once the command is executed so calling code can access params by name.Let me show you an example of the declaration of param and accessing of it.
[Code]...
You can now see how this "used to work in RDO/VB". For some reason it would accept this and know what the param names were after execution. I imagine it had to do another round trip to the db to get this info.
Is there anyway to mimic this behaviour in .NET for ODBC Provider (using Oracle)? Or am I stuck manually specifying the param names in the code (I understand this is the better option, but wondering what the alternative is to match the original code as closely as possible).
We're in a strange situation with a legacy winforms VB.NET 1.1 application using ASMX web services. Trying to send a user Token from a WindowsIdentity object as a parameter to a WebMethod. I will be adding a 'HACK: comment. System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Token
The token is of type IntPtr, the first problem is the WSDL being generated doesn't support IntPtr with the error of 'unsupported type'I'm aware this is a big WTF question and sounds insecure, so any simple helpful alternatives are welcome but there are a lot of constraints on how we can change this system, including complications with the hosting environment. So I would just like to get our piece of data over to the web service to save a lot of other headaches.

I have a Linq-to-SQL class diagram in my web application containing the two tables in my database (held in a DBPro database project in the same solution). All was working fine yesterday. I start doing some work tonight and note that the solution compiles fine in Visual Studio, but when I run the web app I get a compilation error:

View 2 RepliesI'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data, format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.
The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I am trying to compile a very simple project that uses an OCX that I downloaded and is on my desktop. How do I include this in the compile so that I can just forward the exe to another user?
View 4 RepliesI got a situation where I have a group of projects in a solution. All the projects are dll's except one - which is an exe. When I run the project, it compiles all the dll's except one of them - for some reason this dll needs to be manually compiled.
I have my options set to save projects on run and to build projects that are out of date. This works for all my other dll's except this one.
Do I have something set wrong in this particular dll?
Let's say that I have an entire project build in C# and other project build VB and I made a reference to this VB project Because this two projects need to interact between each other. Is this possible? the compiled code of this two project could live together??. Also if i made the same project VB and C# the compiled version are the same??
View 4 RepliesLet me explain a bit.... let's say I already have MARIO.EXE and I want to create another (let's call it) SETUP.EXE that must have 2 buttons 'Yes' & 'No' How can I build the setup.exe and bundle these two apps together and when the newly exe (mario.exe + setup.exe) is created and launched : -if the 'yes' button is pressed it should continue with the mario.exe installation process -if the 'no' button is pressed then quit. What i don't know is the code and and how can I compile these 2 exe in a single one.
View 10 RepliesIm using Visual Studio 2008 in Windows 7. Recently I cannot debug(F5) any projects because this following error is appearing

I have a small form program that is basically an interface for installing different software packages so that we can distribute a CD with our products that our customers can just pop in the drive, autorun, and click the button to install what they need. The problem that I am running into is unlike when I had built this same program in VB6, the program rewritten in VB.net will not run on some machines, and shows me an error: .net Framework initialization error. required version of .net framework v2.0.50727.
I realize that it is asking for that version of .net framework in order to run, but what I would really like to know is if there is a way to make my exe non-dependant on this so that it will run on any machine. Requiring my customers to install .net framework in order to access an interface designed just to idiotproof the installation of some setup files and provide easy access to a few pdf's really would just defeat the purpose.
I'm trying VB.Net for the first time, and I must say, after spending two hours pulling my hair out (literally!) and trying one thing after another, I am severely disheartened. I just want to compile a simple .vb file.
I used notepad to create a helloworld file. Then my problems started. The book I'm using told me to use a command prompt, and enter:
vbc helloworld.vb
No dice, though. The vbc command was kicked out by the command prompt. I installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2008, and tried again. No dice. Double checked to make sure I had all my updates - check, but still nothing. So I just went ahead and double clicked the the helloworld.vb file. It displayed the text, but still didn't compile, and it wouldn't even allow me to debug it.
heres my code :
If File.Exists(TextBox2.Text) Then
If File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "config.vb") Then
Dim pr As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.VBCodeProvider()
Dim cp As New CompilerParameters()

I'm interested in compiling my code in 64-ibt. Under Visual Studio, I see three different places to specify which CPU to compile under: 1. In Solution Explorer, click 'My Project', then Compile->Advanced Compile Options->Target CPU.
2. On VS menu, Build->Configuration Manager->Active solution platform.
3. If #2 is set to x64, then in Solution Explorer, click 'My Project'->Compile, and at the top, Platform (if #2 is not set, the only option available here is Any CPU).
