.net - Moving A Listitem To The Top Of A Listbox?
Mar 2, 2010
When the user selects a name in the listbox and clicks a button I save the name in a var called "parent".What I want to do is programmatically move the selected name to the top of the list and take that whole list and drop it in a dropdown. I started the code below but don't know how to move the selected list item (parent) to the top of the list??
Private Sub GoLower(ByVal parent As String,
ByVal lst As ListBox,
ByVal ddl As DropDownList)

I am confused with the removing multiple selection from listbox ...been searching over internet .. but still I do not get the right approach or simply say it doesn't work. I tried to loop through the list without removing any of the item from listbox. I printed the item.selected and it showed that only the first one I selected printed true, others were not ...

I am trying to create a single listitem that has multiple lines. When I create a newline using "System.Environment.NewLine" I get an empty box rather than the text going down the next line.
How can I get this to work? Currently my listitem is a custom structure. Do I need to change anything here so I can have multiple lines? Perhaps its a limitation of the listbox?
Public Structure ListItem
Private displayText As String
Private itemValue As Integer

I've pretty much just started in playing with Visual Basic Studio 2010 and have been using this site for lots of answers so thought I'd join up and harass more directlyI've been trying to move items between two lists, one is databound to a bindingsource, the other isn't. I found out that you can't really move items from databound lists, but you can remove from the datasource instead. This works fine until I want to move the item back - it fills a blank line with seemingly no data.

I have a listbox List1 in Form2 and the items are populated to it from another form Form1. In form2 i have created a button named btnUP. When we click the btnUP then the highlighted selected item in the listbox moves one level up. this is working fine.
The problem is only the value is moving up but not the highlight.
i have also set the setselect property to true "List1.SetSelected(i - 1, True)" but no use ("List1.selectionmode = one" )
don know wat is wrong with the code.But it is not working
So here is my code
Private Sub btnUP_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUP.Click

so here is what I got so far. I have a treeview with multiple states as parent nodes. then as child nodes I have certain cities. as for my code - I have it set up that if I check the parent node, all children nodes will be checked. I also have code that moves the tags to listbox. the only items that have tags are the children. the code that I have works if I have tags set for the states, but I dont want to have parent tags move to the listbox. how can I change the code I have or rewrite my code to get ONLY children tags in the listbox even if the parents are checked??? hope this makes sense. here is my code
CHECKS ALL CHILD BOXES IF PARENT BOX IS CHECKED
VB
Private Sub TreeView1_BeforeCheck(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeViewCancelEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.BeforeCheck

I'm developing a program in WPF (VB) that relies on keyboard navigation only.In my program, I have a listbox that displays up to 20000 items.What I want is that when the listbox has keyboard focus, and I move to the bottom item that is visible (using ArrowDown), I want the focus to move to the next item outside the listbox. I'm using PgUp and PgDown to scroll the listbox contents, and text search to jump to items.Is there a way to detect if the focused/selected item is the last/first visible item in the listbox?If so, I could just use:
ListBox1.MoveFocus(New TraversalRequest(FocusNavigationDirection.Down))

I am writing a GUI application to run on a touchscreen device using VB.NET and WPF--it must be full screen at all times, like a kiosk app; the window must not be able to resize or move in any way. The window contains a ListBox that users can currently scroll through by dragging across the list. The problem I'm seeing is that when the user drags across the list, the whole window moves a bit, exposing the desktop underneath, then springs back into place once the user stops dragging. I have not been able to figure out how to keep the window stationary while still allowing users to drag across the ListBox to view all list items. Here is a somewhat simplified version of my code:

If I use this code on my aspx page:
<asp:BulletedList ID="listClientContacts" runat="server">
<asp:ListItem><b>My Name</b></asp:ListItem>
</asp:BulletedList>
The text renders as literal <b>My Name</b> instead of making the text bold. The same thing happens if I try to add a list item from the VB side of things:
Dim li As ListItem = New ListItem("<b>My Name</b>")
Me.listClientContacts.Items.Add(li)
Is there a way to add HTML to a ListItem in ASP, or is there a better way to dynamically generate a list?

When I run code the below, the If statement never resolves to 'True'. It always shows 'Assm' as the SelectedItem, even if I check all the checkboxes. So how do I allow 'Assm' to be checked by default AND have the code-behind see that the other checkboxes are checked?
<asp:CheckBoxList ID="qualityChecks" runat="server" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" TabIndex="8">
<asp:ListItem Text="Assm" Selected="True"></asp:ListItem>

I am trying to get the bound values from a row in a ListItem. I have a button on each row that when clicked will perform a task (sending an email message to the person who's name and email address is in that listitem row. So, I have an event handler tied to the listview, and I am trying to get to the underlying datarowview to extract the data items.Here's what I have in the event handler:
Protected Sub lvUsers_ItemCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListViewCommandEventArgs) Handles lvUsers.ItemCommand
Dim diCurrentUser As ListViewDataItem = CType(e.Item, ListViewDataItem)[code]...
Now, it fails at the line where I am trying to access the contact_email element in the DataRowView object.What an I doing wrong?

I have a drop-down asp:listitem box that looks perfectly clean to me. It functions like when the first time you change a language on that page (Say, English to Swedish), it does change the text to that language.
The second time you try to change the language (Swedish back to English -- or any lang), it just reloads the page and then you have to select English a second time to actually change the page back to English.
I tried removing lines from the code behind, one at a time, but nothing changed it.
My .aspx page is like this:
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCulture" DataTextField="DisplayName"
DataValueField="Name" runat="server" BackColor="#DDE4EC" ForeColor="#465C71"
Width="130px" AutoPostBack="True">

The application that I am working on is a Service Desk App. I have a form there that uses a DropDownList that contains employees names coming from the Active Directory. Any employee can make a request and save it. Problem arises when an employee leaves the company and consequently his account is deleted from the Active Directory. When some other employee searches the DB to finds a relevant Service Ticket that could be of his use, when tries to open it an error is thrown that indicates that the name does not exist in the DropDownList items.
UPDATE:I am adding some code so that it can be more clear.
<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"

I am generating ListItems for a CheckBoxList control in ASP, but when I do something like the following:
...
Dim newListItem As ListItem = New ListItem("RoleName")
newListItem.Attributes.Add("style", "color:blue;")
CheckBoxListControlToFill.Items.Add(newListItem)
...
"RoleName" is maintained from post back to post back, but my style tag is dropped after the first post back. If I want to keep any attribute like this, do I need to re-add it every post back?

If I set a ListBox.Height = ListBox.PreferredHeight when the control is hidden and IntegralHeight = True, then set it visible:
a) Actual Height reduces by typically 3-5 pixels after redraw (but not 1 pixel per item).
b) PreferredHeight does not not appear to give the correct integral of item heights.
Is there a way to make ListBox calculate the correct integral Height before the ListBox is made visible, so it can be correctly pre-positioned from bottom edge?
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
ListBox1.Visible = False
ListBox1.IntegralHeight = True

I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.

The scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.
