.net - XmlSerializer. Deserializion Of Empty Date And Time Elements?
Apr 8, 2011
I am trying to deserialize an Xml file content into a specific object. Everything runs fine but when I include empty tag of type date or time in my xml(having xsd that describes my xml structure) the deserialization fails. What can I do to make deserialization working when empty date tags are appear?
I'm using to code below to write and read an xml file. Writing works fine, but I get an error message on the"XMLReader.ReadEndElement()" line when an element is empty.'Element' is an invalid XmlNodeType. Line 4, position 6.XMLReader.IsEmptyElement is probably what I should use, but after reading the documentation, looking at an example and playing around with it for a while, I'm still not sure how to use it. No matter what I try, it still keeps showing an error on that line. This is the xml file.
I have a large one dimensional array that is called ArrayHold which is populated at runtime. I run a loop to scan through the array to find out which elements need to be removed based on a few parameters. This all works great, now I am left with two arrays. The original one and a new one which contains the locations of the elements to be removed.
Original Array: ("A")("B")("C")("D")("E")("F")("G")("H")
Second Array with index/count of elements that needs to be removed: ("0")("3")("5")("7")
End result should be preferably not in a new array but a "ReDim" of the original array:("B")("C")("E")("G")
What would be the simplest way to achieve this? I could run a loop to make all the elements that need to be removed "0" or ""? Would there be an easy way of resizing and array by dropping/removing all the white space or empty elements?
I am using the XML document object in VB.NET to manipulate XML. My application creates a new XML fragment and updates the XML via the innerXML method:[code]If the reason string is empty I get element spanning two lines in the XML as follows:[code]I am looking for a way of keeping the element on a single line while maintaining the same format, e.g.[code]The alternative <ReasonForPayment /> is not acceptable (third party application wont accept it).
Thought I'd see if Stack overflow is quicker than me testing something while I get a thousand interruptions from other work :)
I'm updating an old VB net application and trying to refactor some of the logic as I go. The app looks for data from a single date across a few tables and writes that view to a file.
Writing the query in SQL I'd get the equivalent of
SELECT * FROM table WHERE CAST(FLOOR(CAST(table.date AS float))AS datetime) = '15-Jul-2010'
Ideally I'd use
SELECT * FROM table WHERE date=@input
and add a date object as a parameter to a System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand instance
Are those two comparable? Will I get the results I expect?
I am using VB 2008 and want to record a start date and time and then the stop date and time in a rich text box, i can get the start time into the box but so far can only stop the time instead of 2 seperate times, what i have is a drop down box with a list of computers 1-10 i was trying to get it so you picked a certain computer and that went into the text box then you started the timer and that was recorded, finally you stopped the timer and that was recorded but as i am a total newbie it does not work
I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
I need to read an xml document from a database record into an XDocument object in order for it to be deserialized. So that the deserialization will work, I need to apply a specific namespace to each of the level 1 elements. So XML looks a bit like this:
[Code]...
How do I prevent the blank/empty namespace being added to each child element of the element to which the required namespace has been applied?
I was wondering what is the best way to make sure a date is 'empty' so that, if it hasn't been set by the user, that situation is testable.
I've checked and found one way of approaching the issue:
[Code]....
Is the second one more of a stop-gap measure? Is the first way the sanctioned way (which hopefully doesn't entail a lot of complication with testing/setting the values of the date)?
i have a date control on form (vb.net) and by default its value is current date. i want to make its value to null or empty so that no date is shown and user choose from the drop down date calendar.
I am retrieving some data from the db and using an sqldatareader to read the data. I have a date column in the table which i am retrieving in the following mannervb Dim d as DateIf Not reader.IsDBNull(10) Then d = reader.GetDateTime(10) Else d = ???
I am attempting to import data in a batch from an Excel Worksheet to a Sql Server database. Everything works except for the one date field in the spreadsheet. The date returned is off by four years from the value in the spreadsheet. Example: The Excel sheet has a date 10/24/2010 14:18, but when I look at the column in my query, the date is 10/23/2006 2:18. This pattern, 4 years and 1 day earlier, is repeated for every row in the worksheet.
The Excel column comes to me as a custom type, formatted m/d/yyyy h:mm. I receive this from an outside vendor and having them change the column is not going to be my simplest solution.
For what it's worth, the relevent part of the query is:
Would it be possible to search a table, confining to a specific date range based on a date-time column, and get a count of the 10 most used words in a particular var-char column excluding a list of words? All in SQL?Currently I am pulling out the records that match and sorting through the contents outside of SQL, I would think where I can do it directly on the server it would be more efficient.(SQL 2008)
i am using date time picker and i am selecting 1 date from calender.after selection of that date i want to refresh date time picker i.e. it should display todays date.
I have an Sql server 2005 table called Emploeefl with 2 fields, EmployeeCode and Date of Birth. The data type for the date of birth is Datetime. I have a Date time picker on a vb.net 2005 form called dtDateOfbirth. When I click on the save button I get the error message "Conversion from string 'yyyy/MM/dd' is not valid. Below is the code
Dim newQE_Date As Date newQE_Date = Format(Me.dtDateOfBirth.ToString, "yyyy/MM/dd") 'newQE_Date = String.Format("2008/09/10", "yyyy/MM/dd")
to trace the days of a program installed in user's computer. However, the user can changes the system time of his computer to a advancing date. How can I get a SNTP time from internet to solve this problem?
The problem that I'm having is that when I try to select a different date, the text doesn't go away. That may make no sence, but let me tell y'all what I've done.
1: Created a GroupBox 2: Put a DateTimePicker in the GroupBox 3: Put TextBoxs in the GroupBox 4: Changed the DateTimePicker to look like this: A)Checked - False B)Allow Drop - True
I thought that if I changed that, then the text in the text box would go to that specific date. It didn't do that, it just stays the same. What I'm trying to do is enter text in say 3/7/11 and when I choose date 6/12/12 it will display blank text boxes for me to enter something different.
I'm trying to do some validation testing in VB.NET. If Entity.WeekEndDate.ToString = String.Empty Then ErrorList.Add(New cValidationError("id", "Incorrect Week End Date"))
Where WeekEndDate is of type Date. When I originally build the object, how can I insert a value into WeekEndDate that will generate an empty string(ie. "") when converted from a Date to a String?
I have a report parameter which looks like this: 01.01.2009 00:00:00.Its a date (as string), as you might have guessed :). The problem is, this param can be an empty string as well. So I tried those expressions:
Both dont work and the value for the textfield where I print the expressions result is always #Error. As soon as I remove the CDate stuff, it works, but I have to use it. IS there another way to achieve that? What I want is to display nothing if its not a date or the date (format dd.mm.yyyy) if its a date.
I have a datetime picker in one of our apps. When loading up the win form I need the date time picker to default to the Wednesday following todays date. Any idea how to do this? We are using .Net 1.1 for this app.
I have a program that reads a file with Pacific Daylight Time, I want users to see the time and date in their local environment.
At present I have in Australia a time difference of 18 hours, so I have a list box with -24 to +24 and currently set at 18, my code is elementary as long as I have moved past day one of the month it suits me personally, but I want to distribute my app, so I need something better.
