I have a circumstance where I'm popping up a dialog window containing a "Please Wait" message, running an SQL query, then replacing the "Please Wait" message with a DataGridView containing the collected results.The code I'm using for this is basically:

I would like to put the retrieval of this data into a background thread, so that the UI doesn't freeze up while I'm loading larger datasets, but, having done this, I'd also like to allow the user to cancel and close the dialog, if accessing the data takes longer than they want to wait.At the moment, this Dialog window can take some arbitrary SQL string and display the results (using SQLDataAdapter) without any extra code.How can I make this process interruptible, while also retaining the ease of access of the SQLDataAdapter?

I am getting an error with this code.
The process cannot access the file 'C:UsersdavidDesktopTest Folderdavid 2.xml' because it is being used by another process.
how do i end the prosess after I create the file? Or am I creating it in the wrong manner.The underlined line is where the error ocures.

I'm currently working on my (business) master's thesis... the topic is capital budgeting tools to manage major investments for a European energy supplier.So far the company has used MS Excel for calculating relevant data to make decisions on whether to invest money in new projects or abandon them. There usually is a host of input data, lots of basic calculations and just two or three outputs (such as Net Present Value, Return on Investment etc) .It is my task to develop a new excel template or decide on buying a completely new software license, if excel proves unable to provide the functionality the company needs.
So far I have only very limited programming knowledge, stretching to Java basics, some HTML code and SQL Databases.However, a colleague hinted at the fact that the VB.net programming language can be easily learned and used to improve excel considerably. Ideally I would need excel to be able to:
- make sure people putting data into our template don't mess with it
- be able to communicate with a database
- have an appealing, structured and neat appearance for ease of usage by people with limited IT abilities
- provide all output, including sensitivity analysis charts, in a structured, printable overview

How can i access a file through FileStream which is being used by a window service. Actually i am trying to access a file which is also being used by our window service. I need to read data from this file. I am using below code but also getting following error:

I tried changing FileShare.Read parameter to FileShare.None but it didn't work out. I also read below post which says that it is not possible but i think there is a way to read it like if you open a file through Firefox but still window service is accessing it.

I am working with saving and deleting images. What i really want to do is check and see if an image exists in the destination folder and if it does automatically overwrite it. i couldnt figure that out so i figured i would look to see if the file was there if it is Delete it then write the new file..The issue is i keep getting this error.The process cannot access the file "FileName" because it is being used by another process. When i step through my code, it will do as intended, e.g. clear all contents of test1.txt. when i run it at run time it throws this error. The reason for it throwing an error is the text file is reading string, int, string, and the txt file has a string including in the int part, so i'm making it so you can empty a corrupt file.

I have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.

When I load my solution and compile it after first starting the IDE, everything works as expected. After changing source and recompiling, I get the following compile error:
Error 11 Unable to copy file "objDebugCAMDRS.Library.dll" to "binCAMDRS.Library.dll". The process cannot access the file 'binCAMDRS.Library.dll' because it is being used by another process. CAMDRS.Library.
After closing Visual Studio 2005 and reopening the solution I can compile again successfully. This is an old solution that has been fine for a long time. I just recently changed computers and reinstalled everything.I am running win XP Pro sp2, Visual Studio 2005 sp1.

My.Computer.FileSystem.Rename(pathname,name) < < Throws the above exception I am trying to rename a small .jpg image, - previously (in this application program flow) accessed by the following:
btmp = New Bitmap(pathname) < < , and was followed by a btmp.Dispose well before the Rename called it. Plenty of time had gone by. But for some reason the "application process" is not releasing the pathname for me to rename or delete it.

My program writes to a .txt file (and this is the ONLY program that writes to it) in a thread (with lowest priority), but every now and then it gets an error "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file" when it executes this code: swLog.WriteLine(sPacket).Other program reads from the file, not write to it, why do I get this error, and how can I get around it, or what shall I do when I get this error since I can't write to the file ?

[code]....First of all, when using "Using", is the Open() method required? Some I've seen with, some without. Pretty sure it worked in both cases. Also, I've seen some that end with the Close() method before the End Using.Is that necessary? Basically, when is Open() needed, when is Close() needed, and why is Using/End Using needed at all?

I've done an internet search to determine if I can detail if a SQLDataAdapter is empty after running an SQLCommand? My research so far point I can't check if the SQL dataAdapter is empty until I bind it to a dataset/datatable. Ideally would not like to run another SQL command to do a row count to determine if query retruns rows or not. I'm populating a datagridview and would like to alert the user that there is no data to view. What's the most efficent way to check if an SQLDataAdapter is empty?

I'm not even sure what I'm asking is even possible, but here goes:
Is there a way to loop through a sqlDataAdapter to find multiple tables?
Currently I have a module that you pass in an object and it automatically fills the parameters of a stored procedure with the values of the object. It works great, except when the stored procedure returns more than one table, it only returns the first one.
Here is what I tried to get to that second table:

I have an empty table loaded to the datagridview. I add a new row to the table by

This code works fine, if i add a new row to the table in which some rows already exists. (Works only when after inputing data to the new row I select any another row). But when I use this code for the first row in a table, it creates a new empty record in the database. The data I have inputed into the datagirfview fields aren`t saved.

I have a datalist control that is not retaining it values during postback when the control causing the postback is outside of the update panel that the Datalist resides in. I have verified that viewstate is on for that usercontrol as well as all its parent controls. My basic situation is that I have a Datalist that contains a user control on a page. When the user selects several rows in a grid and presses a button, a datatable is filled on the backend and assigned to the Datalist which has its item template set to the UserControl.
On ItemDataBound I set specific properties in the control which customize the messages on that control to the specific item. This is then popped up using the AJAX Control Toolkit Modal Popup[ Extender. When the user presses Save the whole page posts back. Data is collected from the user controls and saved to the DB and the popup disappears. The issue I am currently having is that the DataList has 0 items when the save button is pressed instead of the appropriate number. THis issue just started appearing after we upgraded from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5.

Throughout our program, forms are opened like this[code]...
The problem is that when forms are closed, they seem to not really be closed, only hidden - if I add some text to a textbox and close/reopen the form, the text is still there, rather than the textbox being cleared like normal. This is presumably because the form always uses the same instance.
Is there any easy way to fix this other than going through the entire program and creating a new form instance for every ShowDialog() call (there are hundreds)?

I can't remember very well the instances where my selected items has disappeared as if I did a "Reset ToolBox", the last time I remember was when I installed the Service Pack early this year. But last year I think it has been reset frequently and I find it bothersome to reselect all those items again and again.Is there any configuration that I could set so that my selected items are safeguarded, that is they won't be removed no matter what?
