I have the mission to make a small game for a school project. Pictures boxes, moved by a timer for walking enemies.If there are around 5 or 6 moving picture boxes at the form, my application get troubles and lags.After I kill some enemies (remove them from the Controls Collection of the Form/Panel) It come back smooth.I think the loop of the enemy movement is too complicated but I don't know how to make that simpler.
I am reading from a log file.My target is to display the 10 most popular requested URL's of a website.One way to do this is to read all log entries and save each URL to a Dictionary. The dictionary has the URL as the Key and the number of visits as the Value. If a URL exists in the dictionary the Value of that URL's Key is increased +1, otherwise a new Key/Value pair is added with a value of 1.
Once the processing is finished the dictionary is sorted by Value and the top 10 entries are shown.This might work, however it could cause a serious memory problem when dealing with a log file of a website which has thousands of different page url's (think query strings).Since I only need the top 10 entries, is there a way to avoid placing all the URL's into memory and still get the top 10 URL + Visits count?
I have a program where if a label box touches a picture box then the game ends. What I want to be able to do is have it so that various pictureboxes appear all along the bottom of the forum then move to the top. I know how to get the pictureboxes moving and I am somewhat familiar to random scripts the only thing I am not sure how to do is create the picture boxes just along the bottom of the forum.
I'm designing a new application, but have two big problems.I wanna put an image in my form, and have the possibility to drag them.For example, I put an image with 100*100 but my imageviewe ronly have 50*50 So, I wanna drag the image around the imageviewer.
How can I do this?The other problem is:In the image I wanna design some squares, with the possibility to drag them to.Drag the squares it's working fine.But, the problem is, when drag the image, I wanna the squares "follow" the imagem and keep thei position in the image.If it was confuse, I try upload an explanation image.
I need to get pictures of objects that move on conveyor band while they are passing by the hires camera. I know that algorithm sould check alpha channels to understand when object (medicine box) is roughly at the middle of frame and then get picture. but the problem is while object moves this algorithm must only get one photo and before one object leaves the scene, other object can appear at the other side of frame. so that makes everything complex. more basically I should get every medicine box's picture while they are on the move.
In re-engineering a windows forms application, I find that a lot of code-behind in the various form classes is duplicative and I'm trying to centralize as many procedures as possible into a base class which can be inherited and used by the subclassed forms.
This process seems to be going well and is making the code in my subclasses much simpler and hopefully easier to maintain, but I'm not sure where to draw the line between leaving code in the subclasses and engineering for generic resusability and moving it to the base class.
Specifically, in some subclasses I have code which manipulates variables and objects specific to the subclass, and although I could move the code-behind into the base class, the base class code references specific objects which are needed to compile. For example, each subclass manipulates a databound datagridview and form detail controls which allows the user to select between multi-record and detailed single-record views of a datatable.
In Visual Basic 2008 do I need to declare dummy data objects in the base class so that the base class will compile? Or is there a way to indicate that the data objects will be provided by the subclass?
I'm attempting to make a very simple game where the player clicks a button, a label is spawned, travels across the screen, and the player tries to "shoot" the label by clicking on it. So far, I can make the labels spawn and move, but whenever I spawn a new label, the previous one stops moving. Also, I can't figure out how to remove an object from the form by clicking on it. I have a user control that inherits the FW ListView and I need to dispose of two objects when the form's disposing of it's objects. Here's what I've concluded already, am I on the right track?
long story short, I have created a ListView type control, using UserControls for the parent control and the ListViewItems. Most the of the control is written and works fine, right up to the point where I tried to replicate the 'Control.SelectedItems(0).Index' property and the 'SelectedIndexChanged' event.
Each child object knows its index value, and could pass this value via the SelectedIndexChanged event (assuming this is how it works in a normal ListView control -- user clicks on an item, and that item fires an event updating the selected index value in the parent object).
How does the child object raise an event in the parent object? I have a feeling this could be done with Delegates, but I'm still learning about their usage.
I want to compare two objects to check if all the properites of both the object have same value or not. for this i need to use the reflection to enumarate through all the properties of an object and check the value of the property. To try the code just i have written a Employee Class having Two Properties EmployeeNo and EmployeeName. In one thread I'll be adding items to List1(Of Object1), and processing them, and adding the results to List2(Of Object2), however I need to be able from other threads to look at the list and say only give me the items where Integer = (my thread ID), is this possible? I'm working on a project that calls for high-performance networking with TLS encryption in VB.NET. The stock SSLStream sucks rotten eggs; its 'asynchronous' read/write operations aren't async at all, meaning that they'll operate parallel to each other and to the main thread but that it offers absolutely nothing that resembles async read/read and write/write, which means that reads are totally synchronous to each other and writes are too (only 1 read and only 1 write can be done at a time).
I've done a lot of reading on this failing and it seems like MS has no intention of ever fixing this.Hoping a whole lot not to have to write my own TLS implementation. I've tried the Mentalis open source SSL suite, which will NOT compile. I've tried SocketWrench tools which will not compile under VS 2010 (and whose documentation indicates it's in fact synchronous on its async threads too; can only do 1 async read and 1 async write at a time).
What I want/need is an SSL/TLS implementation that actually works with DotNET that actually allows me to do multiple asynch reads/writes over a TCP/IP transport stream. Anybody have any experience or recommendations on 3rd party toolkits or alternate methods of SSLStream I/O?
I've developed a .NET application that, among other things, does the following:Uses WebClient to retrieve data from a remote server. Serves as a socket server to 2 'satellite' applications run on the same machine or on a LAN.When I run the app in the VS IDE, it works great. It quickly gets the data from the remote server and communicates perfectly with the 2 satellites.However, when I build it and run it as an EXE, the response from the remote server is very slow and its communication with the 2 satellite applications become very poor.Is there some important difference between running an app in the IDE and running it as an EXE that could effect it like this?
I'm overloading a vb.net search procedure which queries a SQL database.One of the older methods i'm using as a comparison uses a Stored Procedure to perform the search and return the query.My new method uses linq.I'm slightly concerned about the performance when using contains queries with linq. I'm looking at equally comparable queries using both methods.Basically having 1 where clause to Here are some profiler results;

Forgetting for a moment, the indexes (not my database)... The fact of the matter is that both methods are fundamentally performing the same query (albeit the stored procedure does reference a view for [some] of the tables).Is this consitent with other peoples experiance of linq to sql? I have this code to ping a list of over 400 switches , the program works fine but for some reason the first time i ping all the switches alot of the attempts time-out(even tho they shouldnt) which makes the program alot slower , if i click ping again less of the attempts time-out(and as a result the program runs faster) and if i click it a third time i usually get a completely accurate result with all the switches pinging back "success" (except for a few which i know for a fact are down anyway) any ideas why this is ?
When writing an If statement, I've always used And when needed like: If 1=1 And 2=2 Then. The only time I ever used AndAlso is if the second condition will error if the first isnt true like: If Not IsDbNull(Value) AndAlso Value=2 Then. However, recently I've heard that AndAlso is better for performance than And as the second condition is only read when the first is true. In this case, should I always just use AndAlso?
[Code] I want that once I put something in the BigCollection it stays there, I don't want it to be changeable from outside. I want to be able to clear the SmallCollection but it should not be cleared in the BigCollection. Any Ideas?
