ASP.NET - Deleting SMS 2003 Computer Object
Apr 27, 2012
I'm building out a decommissioning application that will allow an individual to provide an computer name and the utility will go out and purge the computer record from various locations. I'm running into a problem when attempting to delete a computer object from SMS 2003. I found some good examples on the web of people utilizing a .Delete_ method via WMI. I'm working to convert that over to VB.NET; however the application is throwing an error stating that the "Delete_" method doesn't exist.
Wondering if someone could take a look through the code and see if I'm doing something obviously wrong. Or, if there is a better method to deleting a computer object from SMS 2003, I'd be interested in that as well.

We are working on an asp.net 2.0 web app that emails users an ical to save to their outlook 2003 calendar. We noticed none of the code to update or delete an item seem to work even though the ical 2.0 spec supports it. We are curious if Outlook 2003 just ignores this?Does Outlook 2007 act differently?We have situations where an event may change or be cancelled which fires off an email notification but the updated ical just adds a new event, it nevers deletes and or moves the original.

I'm building out a decommissioning application that will allow an individual to provide an computer name and the utility will go out and purge the computer record from various locations. I'm running into a problem when attempting to delete a computer account from Active Directory. I'm impersonating a service account that only has rights to "Delete All Child Objects" within a particular OU structure. The code below works if I run it with my domain admin account; however fails with an "Access Denied" when I run it with the impersonated service account. I have verified that the permissions are correct within AD as I can launch Active Directory Users and Computers using a "runas" and providing the service account credentials and I can delete computer objects perfectly fine.
Wondering if anyone has run into this before or has a different way to code this while still utilizing my current OU permissions. My gut tells me the "DeleteTree" method is doing more then just deleting the object.
Sub Main()
Dim strAsset As String = "computer9002"
Dim strADUsername As String = "serviceaccount@domain.com"

i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed.Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:
Public Shared Sub Main()
' Data buffer for incoming data.
Dim data = nothingc[code]....
But it does not work because of the PORT setting.If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example,the client works fine.Do you know why?
Later edit2:Maybe i should have started with this question:Which method is recommended for my scope?asynchronous or synchronous method ?

I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client.The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.
What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.

I have a desktop computer with a cable connection on the back that allows me to watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center. I had the idea of writing a program that would access this feed and send it to another computer (laptop) via my network. That way I would be able to watch TV from anywhere that my network spans. I have no idea if this is possible or how I would even do it,
So I have three questions.
1: Is it possible?
2: How would I go about access the feed?
3: How would I send it over the network?
My original thought was doing it in Flash, but I'm not very good at Flash so I wanted to do it in VB.Net.

how to pull the "modifytimestamp" and "CreateTimeStamp" property values from a computer object in AD? These properties are not AD objects but if I do properties("modifytimestamp").value, the return string is that of a collection. When I do properties("modifytimestamp").count it returns 0 as the value so therefore there is no index. How do I return these values?

This would be easier if I were able to have the external computer get its own name and just pass it to a web service as a variable, but I'm not able to do that right now. There are a variable number of computers from several different entities that regurarly access a web service on one of our servers. Changing only some VB.Net code on the server and nothing at all on any of those external computers, how would I be able to get their names programmatically in VB.Net?

We have an VB.NET VS 2005 application that goes out and connects to remote computers on the network to gather information about the running services, processes, etc.
However, not all of the computers and servers are Windows boxes, and this is causing us some grief.
Is there a way in VB .NET to determine if a computer is running a Windows OS before trying to make a connection to it?
