I'm still in my novice stages of .net development, and I think I may be trying to make something too complicated. In VB.Net 2008, I'm using a SQLDataAdapter to Fill a dataset with records being returned from a Stored Procedure (SQL Server 2005).I'm using that dataset as the datasource for a gridview. Up to this point, everything is great and I understand what's happening.I'm getting ready to make my first-ever attempt at updating the data in thegridview and then pushing the updates back to the SQL dB.Here's where I'mgettingconfused...to cut to the chase, what's the simplest way to load the updates back into SQLServer?
I have a form which contains a progressbar and a Listbox which update as the code runs through and performs some sometimes time-consuming calculations.
At one point in the code, it breaks to ask the user to enter a number using :
Usedefault = MsgBox("Do you want to use the default value of " & Default_No & "?", vbYesNo) If Usedefault = vbNo Then
[Code].....
this works fine but I find that once the data entry is complete, and the code continues to run, the form loses focus and the progressbar and the Listbox updates cannot be seen until the code finished its calculations.
I have a form with a "print" toolstrip button. When I click that button I run the code shown below. The print dialog box appears. The title is dark blue seeming to indicate it has focus. The main form is lighter blue indicating it does not have focus. But hovering over the "Print" button (or the cancel button) does not cause it to change color. If you click on the print button, then the color changes and the second click causes the appropriate action. Same with the cancel button. If you click on the dialog label or on the main form the only thing that happens is the print button will then become "active" and a click there then works. If you click on the main form once, nothing happens, but if you click on it a second time you get the "bonk" sound indicating you ae clicking on the wron modal. As if this isn't strange enough, this action just started recently. I made a few unrelated (as far as I can tell) changes, and discovered this action.[code]....
I have a listbox on a form and when the user selects a value and the listbox loses focus I want to validate the value the user chose. How do I call my function once the listbox loses focus?
I tried using a custom validator but it gives me an object is missing error. Mike
when clicking on the start button in the code below, the form seems to lose focus and I need to click the stop button twice to stop the count. (First click to activate the form, second to click the button) Can someone please explain this behavior or offer a better alternative?
I have a richtextbox, when I leave it for example to go to another panel where I want to manipulate the selected text I can no longer see the selected text. Is there a way to make it still show the highlight?
i have a checkbox, when checked, contextmenu shows and remains visible until unchecked.. then i ran into a problem.. if i click any other control on my form, the context menu disappears and the checkbox remains checked. i have tried placing
I'm trying to have a Textfield lose it's leading zeroes when the user leaves the field. I made the following "Leave" event but it's not working. It works for the first half however to set it back to 1 if it's blank or if a user entered 0. I tried following the advice on this answer, but it didn't work:
I have my form set up to be able to be kept on top if the user so chooses. When it is set to be kept on top, I want the opacity to be reduced when the form loses focus. When I set opacity on init, it works fine. When I use this code, it doesn't work:
Private Sub Form1_LostFocus(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.LostFocus Me.Opacity = 0.2 End Sub
[code]....
Maybe I misunderstand how LostFocus and GotFocus work, but according to MSDN this appeared to be what I wanted.
I have a question regarding waiting for closing a window or changing focus back to my app. What i have is an app that creates a few tables, that then puts the tables into a temp file that wordpad opens for the user to check they are correct, this is where i need help, i would like to now wordpad is open wait until the user closes wordpad or changes the focus away from wordpad until i open the next form which is responsible for using the tables and converting them into xml.
Which event should i look at using that fires when a program is exited or gets focus?
Is there anyway to detect if the vb app I am developing loses focus, ie, if a user switches to another task. Maybe is there a way to detect which process in windows is active ?
Most of my experience in Visual Basic programming is in VBA. I'm currently trying to build a VB.NET Windows application that basically consists of a form that has one button and one label. When the button is clicked, the label should serve as a "counter" that counts from 0 to infinity until the user closes the window with the "x" button. I do this by putting a loop with a sleep statement in the onclick sub. The loop iterates the integer that is displayed in the label and does a "Me.Refresh".The problem is when the window loses focus. When it loses focus (when I click off of it), the counter stops. Even when I click back on it, the counter doesn't resume.
I have a bound DataGridView where the user should enter an item number in one cell, the name of this item will be displayed in the next cell, and depending upon variables of this item number, the focus should be set to the correct cell on the same row.
My problem is that I can not seem to get the focus to the correct cell.
My code so far. I am having problems with the marked line:
Private Sub dgvOrdreregistrering_CellEndEdit(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles dgvOrdreregistrering.CellEndEdit
I have a gridview that is set to a sql datasource, it is generating the columns automatically. If I add a column to the table it is referencing, it will draw that column and display it, but it does not update the insert/update commands to include the new column. Is there any way have it rebuild those commands automatically?
when clicking a button, the current date is inserted into a textbox and the focus is transfered to the textbox.
the problem is that Textbox15.focus() select the text inside the textbox. i wish to give that control the focus but place the cursor at the end of the text, with no selection.
Private Sub Button4_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button4.Click TextBox15.Text = TextBox15.Text & DateTime.Now & " " TextBox15.Focus() End Sub
Is there any way to remove the textbox's focus when mouse is clicked in the textbox? the blinking focus in the textbox is not needed for kiosk system. so i try remove it with
From my main application, I call CustomerDetails form. User confirms data and makes changes if required for which again a call is made from main applicaiton file only. This time am making some changes in db and on calling adapter.update(dataset), the control is gone to a textbox leave event of CustomerDetails form. The code is :
In main program :
' Open Customer Details to Show the details, once confirm, show Order form cd = New CustomerDetails("VW")
[CODE]...
My concern is when res = 3 i.e. Modify. What I want is, I remove all data related to that customer via DeleteOrdersOfCustomer() & then allow user to update the details. But here, in DeleteOrdersOfCustomer, when I update the dataset, the focus comes on phoneTxt_Leave. I don't want to go the focus anywhere unless I complete the DeleteOrdersOfCustomer() How can that be achived or else I have to add cd.close & cd = nothing before calling DeleteOrdersOfCustomer().
I cant select and update... from one gridview (call GW)I need to set always the date when the user update the info. how u do that?I trie several idea. By all null value in the gridview column date, set to current system date.. dont work 4 me.Then true the update process same problem using the DefaultValue="<%= DateTime.Now.ToString() %>"
I have a form with many text tboxes; 5 text boxes (columns) in each row; each row will become a record.[code]...
Ho do I write these values from text boxes in a gridview control? If a value is changed in any of the text boxes then the gridview control should refresh with updated data.
I am able to write this data in a gridview with the following code but it is badly written [code]...
I have a list of items in a GridView, with one column I'd like editable through a DropDownList.
I do not wish to put the GridView into 'edit' mode or have any 'confirm/update/save' buttons.. I just want autopostback on the DDL, and an OnSelectedIndexChangedevent to update the row.
Problem is, from my OnSelectedIndexChangedevent within the DDL, although I can see the new value to save, I can't discover the row to update from the GridView.
how I can achieve what I wish? Other than perhaps storing the row id within the DDL? Maybe turn it around so the GridView's events are called?
Im learning to use a gridview and a problem that im seeing is that putting an edit command in the gridview so that I can update a particular row. When I click the edit, it turns to the update as expected, I hit the update and the particular field turns the row into editable textboxes which is expected. The problem that I notice is that if I click another row, I get this error:
I am trying to get a parameter for my update from the gridview but it is an ID column that I do not want displayed. If I display the data in a boundfield it works fine but if I set the visibility to false the parameter is no longer sent to the update stored procedure. There does not appear to be a hiddenfield column that I can put into the gridview.I have tried to set the parameters through the code behind but I am not certain on how to access the data I want the following code does not work (It sets the parameter to nothing
Protected Sub grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate_RowUpdating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As GridViewUpdateEventArgs) Handles grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate.RowUpdating Dim row As GridViewRow = grvFacilityDisciplineBillingRate.Rows(e.RowIndex)
I have a grid view which uses SQL to calculate information that I need! I want to put this calculated total into another table in database.
SELECT StaffDetails.StaffID, SUM(HolidayRequests.RequestTotalDays) AS Expr1 FROM HolidayRequests INNER JOIN StaffDetails ON HolidayRequests.Username = StaffDetails.UserName
[Code]....
It basically calculates the total number of approved holiday requests for a staff member which is correct. I want this number to then update the HolidayTaken field in another table each time a holiday is approved.
I have tried an update however you cannot use an aggregate in an update as I have found.
I have asked a question similar to this in the past. I was able to resolve it by removing gvRowDataBound completely from the code. This is similar code except I can't remove gvRowDataBound sub.
The issue is that when you click the Edit button of the first row, it allows you to successfully update that row. After the first row, if you click on thr edit button of any other row, enter the value to update, it doesn't update that row.
Instead, the cursor moves down to the next row. I didn't design this and having difficulty figuring out what needs to change.
Visual Studio 2008Visual Basic / .NET Framework 3.5I am developing an application to access data from multiple tables.Example Tables:- BaseInfo - Terms - OtherPeripher
Basically, I have a form with about 15 text boxes. Most are in different tab pages. By default, text boxes allow anybody to copy and paste by using keyboard shortcuts.I added a tool strip up top and make the "Cut", "Copy", and "Paste" buttons. What I want to do is make them work for whichever text box was last focused. So if I click the Cut button on the tool strip, it will cut the text of the last text box that was focused.
Example:I open the program and type in TextBox1. Then I type in TextBox2. I want to copy the contents of the last text box by using the Copy key at the top, so I click that and it copies TextBox2 as it was the last focused textbox.
Like I said, I'm not fully sure how possible this is as I do have many. The whole reason I have the tool strip is for users that prefer using a mouse for everything rather than keyboard shortcuts.
