I have a web site project in which I added a "Class.vb" file to hold public functions/procedures/variables. I'm trying to access a function within this file from my code-behind file from an aspx page. I've called the Class file "Module1"; Publc Class Module1.[code]...
I am trying to instantiate a c# class whose project is referenced within a vb.net project.By providing the following declaration/instantiation of the class, I hoped to be able to access the instantiated classes publicly declared byte array within a vb.net module. The compiler won't let me. I get the message Access of shared member, constant member, enum member or nested type through an instance; qualifying expression will not be evaluated. It wants me to replace the reference to the instantiated class and public member frameData() with the general Class definition name. Why can't I access frameData through the instantiated variable rxFrame?
I am trying to access appSettings using the following syntax and I have used it before in my many website projects but not in a class library project. In this class library project I cannot even access the AppSettings Keys. Is there any way I could access the AppSettings Key from my class? Is the class library project's app.config or project structure behave in a different way?

I have already added Project Reference to System.Configuration and imported in my class. When I run my code it says, "Object not set to an instance of any object".
I want to publish my vb.net project, but when I publish the project, there is no access to database. It is showing error : "System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\N3WEXXZN.DE6\JHJXMQC9.9N6\mara..tion_c355efc190f94c5f_0001.0000_d27846b1540f4a39\EventsTable1.mdb'."
I am giving connection string as
"Provider=Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "\EventsTable1.mdb" OR "Provider=Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|\EventsTable1.mdb"
Why this error is occuring? Is there any other way to provide database path?
I am trying to create a socket class in my project to send data to ecr (electronic cash register).Ecr comes with software that listens for commands on port 3535. Command are in forms of XML Files. It has only one catch, I must close the connection on socket, so the ecr would know when to process the command and respond. Since I only send one command at a time,I need the simplest solution I can get.
How it works:I create the socket and connect it to 192.168.1.67:3535 I start
client.BeginReceive
Then I send the command with
client.BeginSend
And I do a
client.Disconnect(True)
so I can get response from ECR.And in 8 of 10 times it works just fine. The problem is this few times it doesn't work.At that time I cant receive anything because it reports that the client is not connected in ReceiveCallback but it still manages to send the data to ECR just fine. The bill comes out on the ECR, but I get no answer about what happened.
I call the class like this:
Dim dre As New HCPSocket Result2 = dre.Otkucaj(Command1, "192.168.1.67") Debug.Print(Result2) dre = Nothing
End the class looks like this:
Imports System Imports System.Net Imports System.Net.Sockets
A few years ago we (as a company) faced the scenario of getting our developers to stop writing classic asp pages and switch to .net (and in turn system.data for data access). As a supposedly ˜short term measure I wrote the following class to make the switchover easier for those not used to system.data & all its new objects: [URL] The main purpose of this class was to keep usage as similar to classic asp as possible & keep the usage VERY simple (plus to add email alerts for error catching yada yada yada):
I am new for working with vb dot net. I have developed sample project with Ms.Access data base and some pictures I have a doubt on how to package. If you have answer ,sent me a step by step procedure. I have to some custom installation also.
After trawling around the net for a good few days, i decided to post something here.
Basically, i've got a problem linking a data source (Access 2007 database) to a VB 2008 project.
I've broken it down to having a problem dragging a table onto my form, when it generates the nav bar, it says "0 of {0}", and the table is empty (despite the actual database containing values)
However, this happens only at home, at college it works totally fine. The only difference that's obvious is that i'm using Windows 7 at home, and Windows XP at college.
When I started at my current employer I inherited a project from a previous developer and in that project was a data access utility class that tries to simplify a lot of the code involved in making calls and retrieving data back from the database. Over time it has been modified to add more overloaded forms of functions, and now I am looking at possible suggestions from the StackOverflow community. What do you think should be added? Removed?odified?Note:It would be nice if this class could remain compatible to VB.NET in the .NET 2.0 framework. We are also developing in 3.5, but I would like to have something that is generally going to work across most frameworks (so no LINQ, etc.) Also, please refrain from unnecessary answers that consist of nothing but "Use nHibernate" or other tools.

I would like to build a base class for my SQL Data Access Layer. I have most of it based out, but have a question about how to handle errors within the base class. I have a method for ExecuteNonQuery, ExecuteReader, ect...
I've got a program where the insert/update SQL was created with the values coded directly into the SQL string. I've changed this to use the Command's Parameters.AddWithValue method and all worked well. I'm now in the process of separating the data access code out into it's own class. I've got the Select code working using a DataSet in the form that I pass ByRef to my data class so it can populate or refresh it. My sticking point is in how to pass the parameters for the Insert/Update commands to the class since from the form I no longer have access to a Command object. Do I need to make the Command object in the data access class available to the form?
I have a multi-project .NET 3.5 solution. It's ASP.NET based with c# code-behind in all projects except one.I'm attempting to access members from a C# project called "Core" from a VB.NET project. I set a dependency to the Core solution in my solution properties. However, Core. brings up nothing. Furthermore, my other C# projects that have Core-Project as a dependency (in the solution settings), are able to declare Core objects. Example: Private Core.ObjectName InstanceName; Also, Intellisense brings up plenty of info in the C# projects.how I can hook into these members from my VB project?
I have access to a database table that has been added as a datasource in project (A). Is there any way to refer to this database table from project (B) WITHOUT adding it to project (B)'s datasource?
I have an ASP.NET web site project where I am using both VB.Net and C# class files. I have included separate sub folders in the App_Code directory for classes of each language. However, while I can successfully make use of a C# class in a VB class, I cannot do the opposite: use a a VB class in a C# class.

I get an error that "the type or namespace "VBTestClass" could not be found". What am I missing here?
I have some classes, BsfciFile and StudyFlashCard. Bsfci is the extension to which I save my set of flashcards in an INI format. I am currently working to transform my code from using Windows API calls to access the INI to using a IniFile class that I found on the internet. I would like the BsfciFile to have a Array of StudyFlashCard objects, but I would like the StudyFlashCard class to use the IniFile class object contained in the BsfciFile class. I can pass the IniFile from the BsfciFile class to the constructor for the StudyFlashCard class, but I want it to modify the same IniFile as the BsfciFile class has later on.
I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?
Here is a example of how I did the connection:
Public AccessOLEDBConnString= "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & myfullpath & ";Jet OLEDB:Database Password=password"
Function getConnection() As OleDb.OleDbConnection
[CODE]...
And when I want to have access at the data I'm doing like this:
This is a bit of a continuation from a previous post for which AtmaWeapon was very informative.
Problem: A parent class has a sub class with various properties. A property of the parent class is a List(of T) with T = the sub class The issue is how to store data in the sub class of the instantiated parent
Some example code (hopefully formatted correctly):

I have a very simple class that is located within my App_Code folder in my VS2008 web application project. I am trying to instantiate an instance of this class from my code-behind file. Intellisense does not seem to be seeing my class and I am not sure why. I am using VB.NET which I am admittedly not that familiar with as compared to C#. Perhaps I am missing something. I would bet it has something to do with something I am missing in VB.NET.Here is my simple class (for testing):
I have two projects: SQLtesting and Controls. Their physical locations are:
C:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsSQLtestingSQLtesting [forms reside here] C:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsControlsControls [forms reside here]
The code shown below works fine. I run it from the project SQLtesting. It loads a listbox and a checkedlistbox with the controls found on a form. I can change the value of the FormName field to any form within the SQLtesting project and get the form's controls. The forms are not actually opened/shown.I would like to be able to access forms in other projects i.e.
C:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsControlsControls
while running the code from the SQLtesting project.
Private Sub Button7_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button7.Click Dim <strong>FormName </strong>As String = "Form1" Dim FullTypeName As String
Is it possible to set a variable in my custom class for Private Read/Write access and Public Readonly access without creating Properties with Get and Set? In other words, from within my class I want full access and from my form I only want read access. Right now I declare my variable as either Private or Public to control Public read/write access. I tried googling my question a bit but I'm not sure what the correct terms even ar
I have a standard "class library" project with a set of classes that I use to import in almost all my new projects.
The way I work is creating a new Solution with an empty project, which is my main project, and then I add to the solution the mentioned class library project, this way I can see both projects in the Soluction Explorer and even see the library code or update it if needed. Then I write the code in my main project and I compile.
This lead me to have 2 files when I compile: file *.exe and stdlib.dll
Some cases I use the lib for very small tools that I want to redistribute in a easy and clean why, so I would like to embed the stdlib.dll generated from my class library project into my *.exe file.
When I add my vb classes to my C# project in vs 2008 they are readily available to be used in my c# classes. But for some reason 2010 can't see them. I could be missing something simple but i couldn't make it work in the past hour.
This is my first major application using multiple classes. It is written in vb and I know about creating objects of the class and using that instance to call functions of the class. But how do I create an object with constructors to allow another program written in C# to access my classes and functions and accept things from the program.
I'm designing a small GUI Windows program that allow staff at a cinema to reserve seats for customers. There will be a total of 60 seats in the cinema. I have two classes in my program:-
1.) MainForm.vb - used for I/O actions and user interaction
2.) SeatManager.vb - used to hold and handle the background methods and functions that make the program work
Here is the code for my MainForm.vb class thusfar:-
Public Class MainForm Private Const m_totalNumberOfSeats As Integer = 60 Private m_seatManager As SeatManager
[Code]....
Basically, when the program opens, the lstReservations list in the MainForm class will be populated with a total of 60 (m_totalNumberOfSeats) entries to represent 60 seats. Each of these seats will contain the index number from the array m_nameList; this index number (+1) will represent the seat number and then in the lstReservations list, after the seat number, I'd like it to contain the respective entry from the m_nameList array. As all entries will be held in RAM, when the GUI is opened, all m_nameList array entries will be empty. As the user uses the program, they can highlight a row in the lstReservations list and then use the GUI textboxes to enter the customer's name which will then be populated into the respective array entry.
how to, when the GUI opens, ensure that the lstReservations list takes all of the blank entries from the m_nameList array and from there, I can highlight a row to carry out further methods on?
how can I add a class of a different project to my current project as a reference?I tried Right click_-> add existing item --> ( The class from the other project) then it gives me error.I am not sure how can I use that class as my reference to my current project?
I found what i was looking for on this old thread but I don't know exactly what to do woth it. The code given by Tall Dude seems to compile fine except for two errors..
For extra credit I need to create a project for my class. I am here asking what is some of your ideas on a project I already did a calculator and I don't know what else to do one one
Create a project that contains a Pet class. Each object will contain pet name, animal type, breed and color. The form should contain text boxes to enter the information for the pets. A button or menu item should display the pet information on a separate form. Hint: Use a ReadOnly property on the input form to pass the object to the second form.
What I have done so far is create a new class with the name Pet and have instantiated each object with readonly property. I have also created another form where the information entered by the user will be displayed. Guess I kinda need to know what would be the next step? And I want to ensure what I have done so far is correct.
