I have problems with transparent form problem is that its too slow example if i click on button where it should just switch another panel control it takes 3-4 seconds because of redrawing [url] so at form load is called redraw() and if i click on a button and panel is switched i again call redraw() form load 6 second switching panels 3-4 seconds
View 1 RepliesI am trying to use (and this may be my problem already) e.Graphics.CopyFromScreen() in the OnPaint() method of my control to prepare a background onto which I can draw the content of the control. The goal is a tool-tip with rounded corners and other specific features to replace the default Windows tool tip.
Ideally the tool tip could be antialiased and blended into the backdrop, however at a pinch I could tolerate an aliased boundary. This may also be necessary as the control will often be covering a control with an OpenGL overlay and the whole blending procedure may end up a nightmare.
I have created a custom user control, a persistent instance of which belonds to my applications's main form, overriding the OnPaint and OnPaintBackground methods. The application of transparency however is challenging. As I understand, the graphics object passed to the paint method starts with a copy of the current VisibleClipBounds, where generally the first move is to clear the control with a solid colour and start drawing the main features. My first thought was to bypass the fill and start drawing on the captured background. For the first redraw this works fine, but subsequent redraws keep the previous content instead of re-capturing the backdrop. I hoped that CopyFromScreen would specifically eliminate the currently drawing control from its capture so as to start from a clean base but this is not the case, it captures the rectangle of the new location including the image of the previous location if it is in the bounds.
I have PNG and need to know if it has an alpha (or if the alpha is completely white)? How can I accomplish this in vb.net code.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to draw a semi-transparent layer over my entire form when certain events occur, with a prompt in front of this semi-transparent layer (similar to the effect in Windows Vista/7 with UAC enabled)At first I was trying to use a custom semi-transparent panel, but this didn't seem to work at all. As such I'm now trying to use a child form within the form using the opacity property on the form. However, when this semi-transparent form is added to the controls of the main form and displayed, it loses it's transparency.I've got a hacky work around at the moment where the semi-transparent layer isn't actually a component within the main form, and the transparency works then, but obviously this isn't ideal and could potentially cause various issues further down the line.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create a shaped form with an attractive shadow effect by painting progressive alpha blended layers underneath the main visible form area (a background mask color has also been set to allow a shaped form). This is going well, but I have one major problem to resolve - the bottom shadow layer does not appear as the correct transparent shade - it always appears solidly as the background color / transparent mask color for the form.
Why does this bottom shadow layer not show up as transparent, and why is this color being shown when it is set as the transparency key for the form (and so should be invisible anyway)???[URL]..
I am using VB.Net with Access DB. Main form is a Parent MDI. Each form when open first time is slow. It takes noticible time. But, from second time it becomes very fast.

View 1 RepliesI wrote last week about a problem with an MDI program that had a large number of forms (each with a large number of controls on it) that was "sluggish" in loading and in switching between the child forms.I've attached an example program in VS2008 (though the actual app is VB2010)Rather than show the hardware control application with all of the text fields, and picture boxes acting as indicators, I made a simple program to show the point. This is exaggerated as this just loads 2000 or so text boxes on a form. In the real app I have ~ 200 assorted controls per form of picture boxes, scroll bars, text boxes, labels etc. Also, there is a large full screen .jpeg as the back ground of each form. All are generated at run time and are placed on the form in the New call of each form. (as in the sample attached)main issue seems to be the methodology I use to switch between child forms. I make the current form .visible = false, and the next.visible = true. I have used this as it "keeps the place" on each page if the user has scrolled or is looking at one section of the form. When the next form .visible = true happens I see the controls added in a "machine gun" fashion instead of all at once.

I have a transparent layer on the top of a form. I need to display only some part of that transparent form.
-edited- If you think of a map and traffic signal icons displaying on the map. There are a map image layer and a traffic signal icons layer, which is tranparent except icons. if you move the map location, the traffic signal icons should move along with. if the certain area of map does not appear on the screen by moving, corresponding traffic signal icnos should disappear as well. This is what I am trying to do here. Moving the trasparent form is straightforward, but I need to hide some portion of that transparent form.

Seems easy enough to do, but if I do nothing more than create a new Windows form project with one form, set the transparency key on the form to a colour, and then set the background to the same colour, and then run it, after about 3-5 resize operations, I cannot resize the form anymore, except from the top, if even then. No errors, just odd behaviour.

Not a nice clean rounded corner like you would see on an icon or widget. I have tried several different image types (i.e. PNG, GIF, etc). But it seems when I use the transparency Key the quality on the edges gets worse

but that affects all the controls on the form Is there a way to make the controls not inherit this property from the form? Is there another way to make the form transparent? I have buttons and a checkbox that I don't want to be affected by the transparency at all, and a picturebox that I do want to be able to control the level of transparency. Currently, I'm using a slider bar, and controlling the opacity of the form, but that makes everything on the form transparent. I'd actually like for the form itself to be completely invisible, and for my slider bar to control the opacity of the picturebox only.
