I started to learn flash a while back but gave up, (not proud of it) but now i'm learning VB.NET in college and i just wanted to ask, What are arrays, and how do you use them? Its one of the things i failed to grasp in flash.

I am new to visual basic 2008. I can't seem to grasp arguments in a function. Can anyone give me a simple explanation of what they are, how they work, and why we need them?
View 5 RepliesOk, I've researched for hours about classes, creating classes, creating obj's of that class, but every tutorial I've seen has either talking about things that are different from what I'm doing, or they were written with the assumption that I understand X or Y. What I want seems simple enough but it's just not clicking. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish:
1. Player chooses from a list of characters
2. That character has specific attributes (power level, experience points, ect..)
3. When entering the combat page, the specific attributes are displayed in text boxes
with respective labels.
4. When battle is over, experience points are handed out and saved in player class.
It's probably laughable to some how simple this is but I'm really struggling with it.

I have a quick question after seeing a video online.Is a VB variable the equivalent of an 'instance' in Flash and a VB object like a 'symbol' in Flash? Is this what it means by a variable being a reference or pointer to an object and not the object itself?

View 10 RepliesIn VB6 I load a recordset containg all of the records (6 fields per record)in a table into an XArray and then manipulate the records in the array and then write them back to the original table. The array issorted by the first field (1 to maybe 8000 or more) I need to find records in the array by an ID field and then move them (because of some external criteria that happens many times) from say number 400 to number 375. Then all of the other records between 375 and 399 were renumbered up 1 to fill the gaps left by the move.
The XArray worked well as it could find and also move to a next record easily to facilitate the revisions to each record quickly. Everything is done in VB6 in code and nothing visual needs to be shown to the user until say 2000 of these external changes are complete. What is the best, most efficient way to do this in the .Net framework in VB2010. Datasets, Dataviews. tableadapters, arrays. enums ?
I created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.
Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?
My assignment is to have a user enter in big integers using what i think is two parallel arrays. I got this far but now im stuck. I think i need to actually convert the text box input into an array but i do not know how to do that. I am all over the place in this project.

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

I was wondering if anyone knows a built in method ( LINQ say or a LAMBDA expression or other way ) that you can compare2 arrays - collections that would be valid for an equivalent 3rd array - collection which is a combination of the 1st two.
As an example consider;

View 1 RepliesI created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.
is there any way to use flash UI in VB? i understand there should be a plugin ? right now i got a window app that need to integrate with flash UI.

The situation:Ok I am using visual basic 2008, I currently have a form on it with a web browser, a button and a textbox. What I am trying to achieve is when a value is entered into the textbox, and the button is pressed, a variable within a flash game is changed. I have seen many ways of doing this if the flash game is standalone, that looks relatively easy. What I don't understand is how can I target the flash game when it is within a web browser. I know the varibale I wish to change, I am just not aware of how I can alter this with Visual basic 2008.
If someone could please spend the time writing some steps for how I could achieve this I would be grateful.They may need to be relatively dumbed down, because like I said I am still a novice. Something along the lines of "double click the button and enter this code..." would be great.

View 3 Repliesmy axWebBrowser is activated. But now there is a new Problem, Im trying to use flash in the axWebBrowser and when i do that, it works fine but when i launch it again it fails. I cant use the ShockwaveFlash Object because the Flash Requires a Login before the Flash content is displayed. The login is in HTML So i need something that works with HTML And Flash, thats why im trying to use the webbrowsers. It does the same in The normal WebBrowser control, thats why i tried to use the axWebBrowser. I thought of a solution but i dont know whether its a usable solution, is there anyway you could reset the whole webbrowser control at launch of the app because the flash works only once at the first time running the app.
