I am looking for some information about creating a XML file.
It seems that there are several ways to do that. And I am a little bit confused.
Please help me with
1) Creating/Saving a file
2) Namespaces which will be used
3) Reading/Processing a XML file
4) Creating a node, etc
5) Record data to a XML file
One of the client requirements is that the server generate files and store them on a special folder. This files created can not be modified by users or deleted.So the only way I thought is to generate this files with elevated privileges so a normal user can't delete or modify them.But the question is how can I generate a file with this privileges that normal users can interact with this files... only download from server.I use this code to generate the file... But I don't know how to configure it for elevated privileges.This is the button which generate the file and allow to download it:

I am creating a program so that we can just enter in the client information and have it save it to a file that can later be printed. I don't know how to save the information from the text boxes as a new file. Below is a picture of the window that will do this.

When they click the preview button, my code behind needs access to controls on the page (and so I understand I can't use a web method here). It builds the HTML and saves it as a file on the server. My question is: Once the file has been made, I want to automatically open the file in a new window for the user to see their handy work. I'm using vb.net, but happy to receive c# answers.

I'm trying to create a basic mmo game for fun in vb.net. I have done it before with a game api but I'm recently reformat my computer and can no longer find it. I'm trying to dynamically create a new picture box that will be my character or NPC and I can get the image to show up on the screen correctly but I'm not able to use "myGuy" anywhere else in the project. So the character basically sits there and does nothing. I'm wondering if there is away to call "myGuy" (myGuy.Top = 40) in another sub? If you know of a good game api that is not a hog and not expensive let me know.

View 4 RepliesI have a .NET 2010 project. In it, I create a basic user class. Instantiate it and successfully fill it with data. The entire time it is doing this, if I hover over the class, it says it is nothing, even as it fills its properties. Later on, it hoses me in the UI, even though the property has a value it says the class is nothing.

NetShareAdd API from a VB.NET application (.NET version 2.0) and although I can get the API to just create a basic shared folder I now want to create a shared folder and specify its Share permissions (not NTFS permissions) as well, which means I have to pass in a SHARE_INFO_502 structure rather than just a SHARE_INFO_2 like I was previously doing for creating a basic share. I have spent over 5 hours solid just trying to get this working and am getting to the point now where I really cant think of anything else to try.I've encountered several problems whilst trying to make this work but the one I am finally stuck on is this: When I call NetShareAdd it returns the error INVALID_PARAMETER and the parm_ err object (which is supposed to specify which member of the SHARE_INFO_502 structure caused the error) holds the value 501. I know it is something to do with the security descriptor because if I comment out the line where I set the SHARE_INFO_502 structure's shi502_ security_descriptor field then the code works without an error (just obviously does not set the share permissons I want).I think posting all of the code here might be a bad idea as its currently over 150 lines long (yes that is only code for getting this API working...) so I'll just post my definitions of the SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR structure and the code I am actually using to call the various APIs involved: [code] Each of those API calls prior to NetShareAdd returns a non-error value in the Debug.WriteLine that is done after each one, but there is obviously an issue somewhere with the security descriptor.

My problem is that one module in the old app does some realy complicated things and trying to replicate this starting from specs would be a big pain for me. Even if this sounds like the best idea.

I have an old application in BASIC. It still runs under Windows ME. It no longer works under XP, so I was looking at recoding the applciation. I started coding it in VBA, which I have used for Excel macros for years.
We are looking at getting a new computer for kids to use for schoolwork, etc. I also want the kids to learn programming and recoding my old BASIC application is a good place to start. A new computer we were considering has MS Works, but I suspect I will need MS Office (at least Excel) to get VBA. There are multiple versions of Office 2007 (Home & School, Small Business, Pro), so I looked into the Microsoft website to see if I could find out what version of Office I need to get to have VBA. What I found is that VBA seems to be going away in favor of VSTA and VSTO.
Is VBA truely going away? Or is it still going to be a part of Excel for wrting macros? If VBA is part of Excel, is it available in all versions of Office? If VBA is going away, what is recommended for recoding my old BASIC application?
The application involves display of a screen full of data with color coding and has several actions for updating those data.It does not involve any graphics or animation. In the old BASIC application all the system data and runtime data are in program variables.
The actions to be performed are selected by number from menus.In creating the application in VBA, I envisioned primary data display on a main form, which would also have buttons to invoke dialog panels to perform the various updating actions.I have the system data that are not changed when the application is run in one Excel worksheet and the runtime data on another worksheet.
I am trying to create a DLL from a class library in Visual Basic.
First I created a new Project in Visual Basic Express 2010 as a class library. Then I added a class which contains a function that I want to access in another program. This is why I want to export the class library as a DLL. In visual studio I am compiling the project which refreshes the saved dll in the bin folder of the project directory. When I open this dll or include it as a reference in another executable visual basic project, it does not find the function. how to generate a dll from a visual basic class library properly?

I have a button on a form that when clicked i want to have it flash a few times. I have tried creating a for-next loop using the visible true/false property but I only get one result, that being false.
I also want to vary the lenght of time between the flashing.
