Build A New Type During Runtime?

May 30, 2009

Is there a way to build a new class during Runtime? Or at least, add a new property to an existing class.

I mean creating a class that doesn't exist and not an instance of an existing class. I could later on use reflections to load and use this class.

Build A Firefox Download Manager Type Of GUI?

Oct 11, 2010

I am interested in building a simple GUI window using VB.net that looks more or less like the Firefox download manager (press Ctrl + J when you are in firefox to see how the window looks like). However, instead of Search, I would like to have a text space where I can enter the download URLs.

So basically, initially, I have a blank window with a clear list button and a URL text box at the bottom, as I type in the download URLs and press enter on keyboard, the text area at the top shows the download file name as well as the progress bar.

One more thing I would like to add is to have the window to automatically resize itself, meaning the more jobs I added to a list, the longer the size of the window will grow, up to a certain limit.

This is my first attempt on coding up something on the GUI side, so I am just wondering if there is anything to get me start with, is there like a package or library to get me started? Or, obviously preferably, is there already a package of something like this in VB.net?

VB Importing Of DLL Functions With Build Type Conditionals

Jul 11, 2011

So I'm trying to import a function from a library I'm developing. I have "libraryD.dll" built for debugging and "library.dll" for release. Unfortunately, that means that I have to do this:

[Code]...

Now this would be fine but for ALL 40 functions this would make things very ugly to look at (and a tad bit unfriendly).I would like to do something more like this:

[Code]...

Is there ANY way to do this in VB?

NET Class Is Recognized In VS Get A 'Type Is Undefined' Error On Build?

Mar 22, 2012

I am working on a VB NET project and had the strangest thing happen.I created a class file(just like a dozen or so I have already created). I wrote in the code to access it. The autocomplete found the class, filled it in and colored it blue, just as it should. But, when I run the app, I get a type is undefined error.

There is nothing in the class yet. And there is really no code to post..it is as straight forward as I described.I tried restarting VS; Deleting and recreating the class; Deleting the class and creating a new one with a different name.

Is there something in the VB NET configuration I can check to see if it is not being added somewhere?

I found the problem. I have 2 projects in one solution. They both share some classes that were trying to use my new classes. When I hit F5, both projects are compiled, and since I hadn't shared the classes with the second project, it errored.

So, now my question is changed; How do I specify to only build the specified Startup Project when debugging?

Build Error - Cannot Find Wrapper Assembly For Type Library

Oct 20, 2010

A co-worker checked a very simple Visual Basic Visual Studio 2010 application into our version control system. When I checked it out and tried to build it I got the weird error below, which I am guessing has something to do with which .Net Framework the build is targetted towards and also which Framework I have installed.

.net - Cast To Generic Type At Runtime?

Sep 9, 2010

I'm in the process of creating a function which reflects over the properties in a class and adds them to this data structure I have. Some of the properties are generic types. So say we have DataType(Of T) that has a .Value property of type T:

Dim properties = GetType(MyType).GetFields(Reflection.BindingFlags.Public Or _
Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance)
For Each prop As fieldinfo In properties
Collection.Add(prop.Name,prop.GetValue(poco))
Next

In the collection.Add for primitive types (Integer, String, etc....) I just want to add the type... but in the case of generic I want to add the DataType(Of T).Value. I hope there is some work-around but I don't think there is a way because the type of T can not be determined at compile time right? Ideally DirectCast(prop.getvalue(poco), DataType(Of T)).Value would be possible. This is when you hoped even more dynamics appear than whats in .NET 4.0.

Assign A Type To An Object At Runtime In .net Or C#?

Jul 23, 2009

I have an object, o, and a type, T. I'd like to use reflection to change object o to type T at runtime without instantiating it.The equivalent at compile time would be:

Dim p as Point = Nothing I know how to use Activator.CreateInstance to create an instance at run time that is equivalent to: Dim p as New Point()

But i don't want to do this. I have no knowledge of the type's constructor parameters and some types don't have a parameterless constructor. eg. Font. So, to sum up, I'd like a way of performing the equivalent of: Dim o as T = Nothing

In case you're wondering why I'm doing this, it's because I'm using a PropertyGrid on a form to edit types. If this is the first time for editing, say, a Font, then passing an uninitialised Font to the PropertyGrid makes the grid display the default values.

I tried 'o = GetUninitializedObject(T)', but the PropertyGrid either wants a properly initialised object or an object, with a defined type, set to nothing.

I've actually solved my particular problem here: how-to-use-the-property-grid-in-a-form-to-edit-any-type

, but i'd still be interested to know how to assign a type at run-time without the use of a wrapper class (which I was lucky enough to be using).

After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release. After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?

Perform Release Build And Not Debug Build For Exe

Aug 4, 2010

I have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.

I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.

1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?

2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
