I am pretty well a novice to Visual Basic 2010 and am trying out the VB2010 express edition. I not the the coding syntax for VB2010 is different from VB6. I'd like well documented code for opening Excel, creating/opening a Workbook, reading and writing data and closing Excel Workbook when I exit the VB2010 form.
I am developing a VB2010 application form which I'd like to work dynamically with an existing MS 2003 Excel spreadsheet that will be provided with the application . The VB2010 form provides some data input for cells in a worksheet (named "Fuels") in an existing Excel Workbook called "carbonfootprinter.xls". Based on the input data, calculations are performed and the corresponding results are output to other cells in the same "Fuels" worksheet. The results are then also graphed in the Excel Workbook. When the application form loads, I'd like VB2010 code that checks if the "carbonfootprinter.xls" exists and is open, if not then it should be opened to receive data input from the VB2010 form and to perform calculations, and finally the VB 2010 application should close the Excel spreadsheet
i have my database in VB2010 and i want to push 2 tables from that database to MS Excel 2010. I came across [URL] but even after following the steps i'm getting an error: Type 'Excel.Application' is not defined.
I'm trying to upgrade a VB6 app to VB 2008. I have read the article in the tutors corner about automating Excel from VB but I cannot get it to work. Heres what I have done:
1) set a reference to the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library
2) Added "Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" to the top of the module
3) in a routine I have added: Dim X As New Excel.Application Here's where I get an error: Error 75 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.
I have been doing a lot of reading on this topic and most folks seem to agree that having Excel is required to use the COM Interop libraries. However they are never specific as to where that should be installed. Does it need to be installed on the machine I am developing on or does it need to be on every machine that I deploy to?
Edit: I should mention that this is desktop development/deployment targeted for all Windows machines.
Basically I've coded an Excel 2007 project in VB.NET 2010 that allows you to create charts with a fair amount of interactivity. I want the user to be able to save and reopen this workbook and still have that interactivity in any already-created charts, so they don't have to re-create them.
When I create the charts, I use Sheet1.Controls.AddChart(...), which returns a Microsoft.Office.Tools.Excel.Chart with which I can handle events and such. However, when I reopen the file and look through the Sheet1.Controls collection, there are no Chart objects. Accessing the charts through Sheet1.ChartObjects.Chart gives me Interop Charts, when I need the Tools Charts.
I just want to ask whether I can automate Excel without microsoft office excel installed on machine, I tried but it failed to do automation, does anybody know how to do it without excel installed on machine?
I'm using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel in VB.Net in order to export an .xls file as a .pdf file. This was the only method I could find without relying on third party software to be installed on the running machine or using an expensive add-on to Visual Studio. This method requires opening excel and saving a file through the code.
My problem is that I only have a trial version of Microsoft office as I never actually use it. Well the limitation of times I can open it is up as I have run the program enough times for debugging purposes and now I can't continue development on this application. Is there a development kit for visual studio that provides the API I need for this functionality without actually having Office installed? I don't need Microsoft Office so I don't want to have to buy a full version just to develop and test an application.
I've looked at some options like this, but there is very specific formatting that needs to remain intact in the .xls for the conversion to .pdf that doesn't seem to work if I use an intermediary format. I've also read a little bit about the openOffice API, but is that compatible with .Net? If so, can someone point me to a tutorial that explains how to use the API with .Net? Specifically VB if possible, but I can work with C# code.
if any of you have called up excel spreadsheet data within your VB.net app. Is it at all possible instead of calling up access and the like?
And just before some overzealous person puts "we will not do your work for you blah blah blah......" Im not asking you to write it for me, im just asking if its possible, has anyone succeeded in doing so?
Id rather not use VBA script if possible, Id like to create my own app and use a spreadsheet that has all my workings on already - sorry if its a bit noobie to ask such a daft question but one of my friends is going to be opening a restaurant soon and asked me if i could do a little prog for him using his excel stuff
I'm writing the following bits of code for a SaveFile Dialog box in Visual Basic 2010.NET. The code works well as the XLSX file is created and opens in Microsoft Excel. However, the problem that I am having is that if the program overwrites a file, the user is getting two prompts. One prompt is from the program's own SaveFile dialog confirming the choice. The other is from Microsoft Excel asking you the same. It's as if the program is running in the background.[code]
to have Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library when I click on Add Reference... in Visual Studi 2005, do I need to have Excel installed on my PC or is it ok if I gac Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll
My company is currently in the process of upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2010. The upgrade won't take place until October, but I am currently testing it on my PC. I have some applications that reference Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library VERSION 1.3.0.0 and export DataGridView results to Excel. Since I upgraded my PC to Office 2010, my version of Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library was upgraded to 1.7.0.0. Now, Office 2000 users are having issues when trying to export data. They get the following error:"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."I can't debug to find out the issue because I am running Office 2010 and it works perfectly fine for me. Has anyone else encountered this? I think it's happening right around when it starts to save the file.[code]
I have added "Microsoft Web Browser" to my windows form and I am trying to use AxWebBrowser1.Navigate("c:/file.xls") to load an excel file in the browser but it is launching the excel file outside the window? What am I doing wrong?
Using the Office 2010 Object Library to create Excel documents from code. Is there a way to deploy the project without having Office installed on the target machine? I have a 2000 Server that Office 2010 is incompatible with.
The backend uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 runtime engine with an MSDE database engine. The frontend however is built with Microsoft VB.Net and the dotnet framework. I'm not sure how this changes things when trying to extract the tables. I've found the folders where SQL-notepad looking files are contained but am not sure what my next step should be. TBH i dont know what version of Microsoft VB.Net framework is used but the system is quite old and was made in 2001. If you haven't noticed from my poor phrasing i'm a bit of a newb when it comes to programming. If there is a particular programming code i have to put in i wouldn't really know where to put it.
i've started work at this small charity and they need me to extract the tables and data from an old buggy system and create a new Access system but i'm having trouble extractig the data. The backend uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 runtime engine with an MSDE database engine. have a Visual Basic 2008 project with references to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel and Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access for Office 12/Office 2007. I also have Office 2007 installed on my PC. I tried running my program on a PC which has Office 2003installed (i installed the compatibility pack to open .xlsx files) and the Access Database Engine for .accdb Databases. It does not have VS2008 installed but has .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.
I have create Office Excel application in my machine(XP). and i have placed the application in windows server 2008 giving the following error.
Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file 'serverInput.xls'. There are several possible reasons:
The file name or path does not exist. The file is being used by another program. The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
both client and server systems installed office 2007 and added reference microsoftexcellibrary 12.0
created assembly for the application and calling the code from the form.
im exporting the content of a datagridview to excel, i managed to do that, but i want that after i succesfully completed the export process to open excel to see that file. heres some code im using to export to excel:rutabd = source of the databasesqlexport = the sql string query to select the items
Every week I generate a CSV report that adds an extra space to the beginning of my date column. Because of the extra space, Excel recognizes the date as text and will not format the information as a date. I have tried the Right() function but once Excel recognizes the date as text, it will not convert to a date. Can I programmatically address this issue in VBA and how?
I am having a problem regarding to Importing file from excel to listview. Actually my problem is that my program will let the user define what database he/she want. I know already how to load on my listview from .txt, access, ms sqlserver, but my problem is the user want to open from excel file. Base from his data, the columns contained Contact, address, age, name and only in sheet1. My problem now is that the user want to call his/her excel act like a database. The tablename will be Sheet1 and if he/she want to display the age and name column he/she can view by calling the its columnname. The columname will act as a fieldname. How can I do this upon loading all of this to listview. I have here an example on how i load data from .txt(csv) format but i need an excel on how to load data coming from excel.[code]...
