Nov 12, 2010I am trying to connect with SQL Server Database using VB.Net. In Datasource of Binding Source, I selected 'Add project datasource' Clicked 'Database and New Connection in Choose Connection Wizard.
In New Connection, what to select 'SQL Server' or SQL server Database? I tried both but when Tested Connection, it failed to connect.Also, what type of password to be chosen, Windows based or SQL Server based?

Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

The following code works 100% when run in VB2008 Express.When compiled and run onthe same system, it generates the above message.The codebasically opens a Access DB and loops thru the db There is a progress bar (also tried a simplelabel) to display progress using AbsolutePosition.

ADODB.Recordset AbsolutePage Not Working With Oracle Database (ASP.net)

When I try to run it I get:
"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Current Recordset does not support bookmarks. This may be a limitation of the provider or of the selected cursortype."
The error page points to "Objrs.AbsolutePage = PageNum"
what I can do to get around it? It would kind of really stink to show 500 records on one page.
Execute SQL Statements To A MySQL Database Through ADODB.Connection
Sep 2, 2009We have a VB6 program that uses an ADODB.Connection to establish a database connection and use its execute function to run SQL statements. The connection we have established is to a SQL Server. It has been working fine. Currently, I am trying to change the connection to a MySQL database. I changed the connection string and the connection is ok.
However, when it comes to running the execute function, it returns a runtime error 3246 - connection object cannot be explicitly closed while in a transaction.
I checked the connection.status before calling execute and found that it is open. When I use MySQL's server connections to check the status, I found that there was a connection before and after execute was called.
I encountered this same error whether I used MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver or MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver.

The connection string I am using is;"connectionString="Data Source=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;Initial Catalog=xxxxxxxxxx;User ID=xxxxxxxxxxx;Password=xxxxxxxxxxxx"I can connect to the remote data using the "add data source" within Visual Studio and can preview thehosted data without anyssues however when I try to run the application I get an error stating;"The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"

Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. May 27, 2008i am trying to develop a multi user application. this is the first time i am doing it. my database is sql server 2005. and using vb.net as the programming language.i have few questions,
1. my database is in one computer. this computer is not actually a database server. it is just a computer. and the database is created in local drive (e:) of the computer. when i develop the application. so, if i am writing an application for the computer where the database is created. i can give the location of the database as my connection string (is there any better way to do this. because there might be problems, if the database location is changed). how can i connect to the database from the other computers in the same network?
2. this is my second question. i have a table which stores customer details (customer id is primary key and its auto number). one customer can have many hobbies. so i took it as a separate table (customer ID as the foreign key of that table) . when i enter data, i use single form to enter the customer details and their hobbies. so when i insert the record into two tables, will the second table take the new customer ID automatically into dat tables customer ID which is a foreign key.
