I have something strange occuring. The following code works 100% when run in VB2008 Express.When compiled and run onthe same system, it generates the above message.The codebasically opens a Access DB and loops thru the db There is a progress bar (also tried a simplelabel) to display progress using AbsolutePosition.
dbInUse.Open("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=C:SCDBv4DataSCDBData.mdb")
rsInUse.Open(OpenCommandSQL, dbInUse, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenKeyset, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic)
I am writing a small VB 2008 application which connects to a SQL Server 2008 database,which is hosted with Fasthosts in the UK. The connection string I am using is;"connectionString="Data Source=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;Initial Catalog=xxxxxxxxxx;User ID=xxxxxxxxxxx;Password=xxxxxxxxxxxx"I can connect to the remote data using the "add data source" within Visual Studio and can preview thehosted data without anyssues however when I try to run the application I get an error stating;"The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I want to understand the concept of connecting to a remote PC or server. I'm working on an app that will connect to a remote server. Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. I'm just not sure how to connect to a machine remotely if I have valid credentials. There seems to be sever ways to accomplish this. I want the most efficient way using vb2008.View 3 Replies View Related
I'm been learning about connection strina I have been able to succesfully connect to a sql database stored locally on my Pc.The next logical step would be to connect to a database stored on a remote server. My question is does anyone of a sql database ( or any other type of database ) which can be openly accessed by the general public. Does anyone know if a web hosting service would allow me to remotely connect to a sql database ? Could I for instance upload my database onto a web hosting service and try connect to a remote database that wayView 1 Replies View Related

i am trying to develop a multi user application. this is the first time i am doing it. my database is sql server 2005. and using vb.net as the programming language.i have few questions,
1. my database is in one computer. this computer is not actually a database server. it is just a computer. and the database is created in local drive (e:) of the computer. when i develop the application. so, if i am writing an application for the computer where the database is created. i can give the location of the database as my connection string (is there any better way to do this. because there might be problems, if the database location is changed). how can i connect to the database from the other computers in the same network?
2. this is my second question. i have a table which stores customer details (customer id is primary key and its auto number). one customer can have many hobbies. so i took it as a separate table (customer ID as the foreign key of that table) . when i enter data, i use single form to enter the customer details and their hobbies. so when i insert the record into two tables, will the second table take the new customer ID automatically into dat tables customer ID which is a foreign key.
I'm building an application that connects to a SQL Server 2008 database via connection string. The thing is, since the computer loading the app (or the user, in either case) is outside the Active Directory domain, I can't use Windows Authentication to connect to the DB. But when I include the database credentials, it won't let me connect either, telling me that since the computer logging in is from an untrusted domain, access is denied.
The connection string goes like this:
connectionString = "Data Source=" + ServerName + ";Initial Catalog=" + DatabaseName + _
";Integrated Security=SSPI;User ID=" + UserID + ";Password=" + Pwd

I created a project in vb.net and I'm able to connect to an Mssql server remotely using the host machine name. However, I can't connect using the IP Address. This is my connection String.
I have developed a frontend app using VB 2010 which is to connect to a remote MySQL server. My server has an internal IP address of 188.8.131.52 and an internal IP address of 192.168.20.44.
When I use the internal IP in my connection string and connect over LAN, the whole thing works fine. But when i changed the IP to the external address and tried to connect to the server over the internet, I get an error something like 'Failed to connect to MySQL server for user 'user'@'localhost', [using Password=NO]. This means that for some reason, it is not connecting to the server at all.

I'm developing an application that detects Source-based games running on the LAN. Following up on the specifications provided by Valve, I have it narrowed down to exactly what I want: making a UDP connection on port 27015, sending an A2S_INFO query (0xFFFFFFFF followed by "TSource Engine Query") and parsing the binary reply.
This is the code I'm working with:
Dim sIP As String = "192.168.0.154"
Dim nPort As Integer = 27015
Dim connectionMessage As String = "├┐├┐├┐├┐TSource Engine Query" & Chr(0)
My.Settings.ConnectString = "Data Source=184.108.40.206,3306;
I've been doing a self studies on visual basic and I thought I've learned a lot but still I realized that I still have something more to learn. I want to learn the basic fundamentals on SQL for its database operations such as adding,editing, and deleting records. I would say I'm new to SQL because as far as I've used VB, I've been using LINQ(Language Integrated Queries) for database operation. I've been doing a lot of research online on how to start and connect to SQL but I find hard to make it on my own cause all I've got is an error during runtime.
i write a vb code that it can do connect to serverthe question is when i connect to the server the server have receive the connected and the client exists not found serverit shows out this warning "strData' is passed by reference before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime."View 4 Replies View Related
I am new to socket communication. I found a few samples on the web and I managed to make my own host-client communication but i wanted to go a bit further and connect to port 80 of a server and it was just a disaster! First of all I know I can just use the functions that vb has itself but I want to make my own connections ... I have got some reasons I need this one! Do I really have to make them "connect" or just somehow without connecting I get the data? So I'm stack at the point that the connection is made ... it refuses to connect.View 7 Replies View Related

i need to know what will it take for me to access, insert, update and delete data to a database on a remote SQL Server. I already made some configurations to the SQL Server 2005 that I want to access by following the steps coming from this link -> [URL]. But somehow I am still getting an error. My primary concern is "What connection string should I use on my client VB.NET application to connect to the remote SQL Server?" Since I will be connecting to the SQL Server via Internet and not by LAN, I am wondering which IP Address and Port am i going to put on the 'connection string'? How can i get my 'TRUE' Ip address? Or is there any other way to go through with this? It will be very helpful if you could share your insights and knowledge. Here's my sample connection string:
I am attempting to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 from within Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. My connection string is as follows:
connection = New SqlConnection("Server=localhost;Database=greenapplication;User ID=WindowsID;Password=WindowsPassword")
I keep getting this exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException:Login failed for user 'WindowsID'.What am I doing wrong? Are there certain permissions that I have to set up?
I have one more question. I am connectinag to SQL Server 2008, not express, and I keep getting the "login failed for user "...""[code]View 7 Replies View Related
