Automatically Closing A Splash Page After 4 Seconds

Aug 18, 2009

I have tried to add a splash page to my app. I've tried the MinimumSplashScreenDisplayTime" Property, but it doesn't seem to work. (Don't bother trying to explain that to me again. I've given up on that.) Therefore, I will just work the splash screen as a form (like everything else). start it when the application starts and close it (automatically) after 4 seconds?

Why A 2005 Console Application Disappears Immediately On Pressing F5 / Start Debug

Nov 1, 2009

I submitted the same question a few minutes ago, but so far that hasn't appeared in the thread - I wonder why/ - I used the HTML to rite the code I used. When I Click the F5 / Strat Debug on menu the DOS-Based form appears and disappears immediately. I am able to run a DOS-Based program in the computer, I checked this after the Sample Console Application failed to run. The Code I used is given within the Brackets(System.Console.WriteLine("Hello World")).

Windows Form Closing Automatically When Parent Window Gets Focus?

Jan 24, 2012

VB Windows form Application.. I am developing an application of which part of the program is around configuration settings allowing the user to enter configuration items. When the menubar item for configuration menu is clicked on the main form the menu opens.This is fine but the mainform should not become active again until the configuration menu has closed. This does not happen right now and the mainform simply comes to the foreground and the configuration form goes to the background... I realize that coding an event on the Child form to handle this would not work because the child window loses control and the main form gains control.. I thought of coding a function as follows on the main form but it does not seem logical because i would have to add to it for everyform and do checking to make sure the child is actually open before trying to close it..

Private Sub Form1_GotFocus(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.GotFocus
MailSettingsWindow.Close()
RentalSettingsWindow.Close()

[code]....

I did away with the above sub routine and used the below code as per the recomendation of using showdialog which works just as i was looking for.

Private Sub MailingAndEmailSettingsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MailingAndEmailSettingsToolStripMenuItem.Click
Dim MailConfig As New MailSettingsWindow()
MailSettingsWindow.Showdialog()
End Sub

Visual Studio Console Application In Debug Mode Consumes 50 Percent Cpu Usage

Oct 13, 2009

I have a several C# console applications that basically parse tons of data in memory (LINQ) and output the results to a text file. Now, forget about the writing to the text file for a minute because this is not where the problem is occurring.

When I run the application in debug mode, I will never get it to utilize more than 50% of cpu usage. It will be parsing/massaging hundreds of thousands of records, but only go X fast and utilize 50% of the cpu AT MOST (as viewed in the Task Manager).

I would really like to use 100% of the CPU to make the processing go faster. Does anybody have any insight? I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional with Service Pack 1 installed. I have manually set the affinity of the process in Task Manager to a single core on the dual CPU. Sometimes I can catch it utilizing 51% or 52% of the CPU.

.net - VB 2010 Express: Debug.WriteLine Optimized Away Completely In Debug Version?

Aug 31, 2011

Simple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?

I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?

Closing Application Via X Button Without Closing Forms Inside Mdiparent Causes Exception Error

May 3, 2010

Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?

VS 2008 Closing All Forms When Program Closes Vs. Closing All But Main Form

Jun 4, 2010

Dim frm As Form
For Each frm In Forms
Set frm = Nothing
Next frm

The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.

I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.

Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?

Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?

C# - In A .NET Console App, Have A Line Of Text Stay Visible In The Console All The Time?

Jun 1, 2011

I was thinking of adding a simple bandwidth monitor to a console application and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep a line in the console window visible at all times. I could set something up manually to pass new console output into a method that would get the contents of the console, clear the console, add the bandwidth data on the first row, then rewrite each line of previous information back to the console, etc.. but that seems like a really hacky way to go about it, and I'd be limited to the amount of rows visible at once in the console window (no scrolling).

Send ASCII 0-255 From One Console To Another Console?

Feb 23, 2011

I am trying to send/print/write all possible ASCII codes (0-255) to another console-window application. From my application I would enter the name of the "receiving" application and the comma seperated hex values that should be sent/print/written to it. I have used AppActivate to select the "receiving" application and then have used sendInput and send.sendkeys to attempt to send the desired ASCII value. However, these appear to have limitations on values greater than 127. I need to be able to send all 255 values.

Showing Console In Console Application?

Dec 15, 2011

How do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.

VS 2010 Console Application Without A Console?

Aug 23, 2009

It sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).

Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?

Debug A DLL From VS2008?

Mar 31, 2010

I have a program written in VB.Net (Visual Studio 2008) that uses a DLL written in Visual C++ by another developer. I'd like to be able to step in to the C++ code as my code makes calls to methods in the DLL. Since the DLL is it's own solution, I don't think it can be included in my solution/project. I tried putting the DLLs pdb file in the debug/bin directory with the rest of my build and pdb files. However, when I get to the point in stepping through my code, and it gets to the dll call, it just steps right over the dll code. Do I have to manually load symbols?
