For exercise 1 I have created the form with a button and two text boxes, but cannot work out the code I need to move text between the two boxes. I don't know if you can tell what I am trying to do here, so I will try to explain. I what to create for random numbers and place them into for different text boxes. I also would like to do this with combo boxes and their selected indexes. So if the combo box has 10 items in it; the new selected index would be the random number generated above.

What I am wanting to do is write a single function, where in you click on a button and it will pass the text box name (so that it knows which text box to edit), as well as the value inside of the text box (to make sure that the new character stat ceiling is taken into account).

it is possible to create a class based on text box, add some code to its events, say gotfocus event, and visually add this textbox to a form instead of adding it in code. Just like we drag and drop a textbox to a form from toolbox.

For instance, I have a form that displays information that needs to be inputed to a database, based on what test is being done for a specific product. Each product requires different tests. So each product may or may not have the same information that needs to be inputed..
What I have done is made a database and filled a table with each product and what tests apply. I then call that database after the product has been selected for the tests. It will then fill an array for that products information for what texts boxes and labels need to be shown. I wanna take this further and have it create a form through code and align all the controls to specific spots so that it will look nice. For example I wouldn't wanna create a control and have it be cut out of the form, or have other controls overlapping others.

I have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage.The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)
So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).

In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.

Im trying to make a program that allows the user to view additional information via moving the cursor over the label to view (make visble) additional information, in the form of text boxes and/or picture boxes. How will i go about doing this?

To do this I would need to use a dynamic array as the number of names returned could be anything.Apart from first running "select count(names) from table", getting a value and then Redim'ing the array on the count is there another method I can use.I've seen there's a dataset row.count? I am trying to figure the best way to programmatically re-size table column headers in ReportViewer.Basically, my current resolution is the following: ColumnWidth = Header Caption_CharacterCount * 0.32...Where 0.32 is an estimated width of a typical character using my current font size.The issue is that the width leaves a lot of whitespace for longer captions.The more characters a caption has, the more whitespace I end up with.The issue with estimating this way is that not all characters are the same width. A good example would the the "I" character, which takes up less screen width than the rest of the alphabet.[code]

I have another process before this that will create the PDF's based on the files listed in the listbox.What I am having trouble with is verifying that the PDFs that are created in the Test1 and Test2 folders equal the counts from the listboxes. This count needs to match before running the next process. I'm kind looking for wait or loop until both counts match, again before running the next process.

View 8 RepliesI am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.
