Creating A Database Management Software Using VB IN VISUAL STUDIO 2008 As Front End And ORACLE 10g As Backend?
Jul 6, 2010
I am an absolute newbie in both oracle and visual basic. I have covered some basics as tutorials and want to develop a database using Visual basic as front end and Oracle as back end. I have Visual Studio 2008 installed and I will use Visual Basic from that. I also have Oracle 10g express edition installed on my system.
We are thinking about changing our current database system, MS Access 2007 front end and MS SQL Server 2005 backend to using a higher level language such as Visual Basic .Net. I wonder if this is the BEST solution for data management? Currently, among others, we have two big database programs that handle more than two hundred users and it's crashed often. That's the reason we think about changing to something that can handle these database programs effectively preferably using MS technology such as .Net.
I've been using ms access bfore but want to upgrade coz the company im working in is getting bigger. With almost 10,000 new clients added every week. Im afraid access can't handle it anymore. So im planning to create a new database. Im really new to this SQL Express but have knowledge in sql using vb codes. Is it easy to be used as backend database?
I write as a systems administrator and own VS Team 2008 Team Suite. I would want to learn about the features within the package that allow developers to collaborate with other developers either real-time or otherwise.Additionally, I would want to learn about the features that would allow me to assign and monitor the progress of projects.
Visual Basic Project - Student Check In Form using an Access database backend This form needs to draw information from an Access database containg tables for STUDENT, INSTRUCTOR, and SECTION. These all need to have primary keys and ids. When (the user) clicks on the drop down box that displays all the sections:
{Table Tennis 1, Table Tennis 2, Table Tennis 3, Billiards 1, Billiards 2, Billiards 3}This should populate the listbox or datagrid from the STUDENT table with the Students that have the same SECTIONID as the SECTION selected in the drop down menu above.
After the Student list has been populated (the user) clicks on a student name in the listbox/datagrid and this inserts that student into the CHECKEDIN table that has a datagrid/listbox associated with it.
This is a great project to practice connecting a database to Visual Studio 2008 .net and playing with the data that has been pulled in. You could use SQL instead of Access.
This is my first try of Visual Basic 2010 Express, though I have 10 yrs+ experience in VBA. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a desktop pc with following installed: Visual Basic 2010 Express... just installed! SQL Server 205 Express ... been running on pc for 12 months I've created a new DB in SQL for my test application, but have not added any users or permissions to it as I'm using Windows authentication.
I've created a new Windows Forms Solution in VB2010EXP and tried adding a new Data Source for my new SQL DB, but it keeps giving error message about not having rights ot the db. 2 days of searching on the web has confirmed many others with similar issues, but no obvious solution. Eventually I find a few threads about permissions and moving the mdf into the root of the HDD, so try moving my mdf file up closer to the root of the Hard Drive msf was in C:Documents and Settings\_SharedDataApplication_DataMSSQL2005Data now in C:SQL2005Data

Using Vb.net 2003 Asp.net 1.1 Sql Server2005 Express Vs.Net 7.1. I have Vb.Net Standard and there is no Web Set Up with this version. I have FTP things along time ago but not asp just basic stuff. I have read about xcopy, copy project, I have XP and IE that I can FTP from. I also have to put a database up from SQL Managment Studio. I need to know HOW WHAT WHEN WHERE on how to do this right. This is an interactive site that I made, very similar to a Forum like this site. Do I just upload the dll.
I don't want my source code available for everyone to see, do I have to obfucate it if I am using [url] as a host. The site can't really be down all the time, I have read that I could work on thesite while it is up but I believe I will have to have all the source files up and open.
I have a problem here... I'm using SQL Server as may database and developing that database in Visual Studio 2008.my problen is, when I use the STORED PROCEDURE from SQL SERVER it doesn't update/save new data on a the table. here's my coding; This is my stores procedure: when I execute this on on SQL SERVER it worked perfectly.

I am trying to control an access database with my program.I am using Visual basic.net as a programming language. It's look like I can do a simple (read-navigate-update...) without writing code in Visual Studio 2008 by:1- new windows form application project.2- loading my data source (table).3- drag and drop to my form my table from Data ources tab after changing it to (Details).4- Visual studio will automatically make> ( data set - Binding source - table adapter - table adapter manager - binding navigator )
I just want to ask if what is the best database that is compatible for microsoft visual studio 2008 and adobe dreamweaver cs3? And database that can store thousands of files. Because I will use this for my client inquiry of their bill on my water billing system and online inquiry.
first of all sorry if this is not the right place to post this question. yesterday i bought Microsoft visual studio 2008, so as to develo web application, then i installed it in my pc. after installing it in my pc, i have seen microsoft Sql Server 2005, in my start menu programs. wow that is nice, but now i want to create database and then connect it with visual studio 2008, so how can do that? this is my frist time to use sql server, so where can i create tables and databases? and how can i connect it with visual studio 2008?
I've been viewing the tutorial at [URL]...08-088541.html but I'm still having issues creating my connection to our Oracle database. Here's my code, which uses the same connection string as one of my VB6 programs (no password required for database--Oracle picks up windows name) :
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'Create connection object Dim OraDB As String = "Data Source=databaseneme;Persist Security Info=False" Dim conn As New OracleConnection(OraDB) conn.ConnectionString = OraDB conn.Open() Me.Show() End Sub
I've been using .NET for all of 10 mins so the error may be painfully obvious!
i have this code that is trying to connect to my database on wampserver in microsoft visual studio 2008 but there is an error message from the sql server contained in the Ms visual studio saying i cant connect to a remote database.this is my code:what could be the problem?
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click CreateDatabase() End Sub
I am creating reports in Crystal Reports that is integrated within Visual Studio 2008, and I noticed that some of the features are disabled. One is the ability to link tables with a Right Outer Join or Full Outer Join. I also cannot "Show SQL Query" in Crystal Reports. Is this something I can enable or do I have to purchase or upgrade?
I'm using an MS Access database which has password (database password, not a workgroup or smth). I'm using 13 characters - with no special signs- only letters. When I try to open the DB from access it works fine, but when I try to run my Windows Form application from Visual Studio Connection String, I get a message that "Not a valid password".
