Custom Control Losing Size Around Edge When Added To Form

Dec 7, 2011

Having some issues with creating a simple control in vb.net.

I create a control with a single label in, I don't change anything except the colour of the control and the label and also making the label anchor to the edges ( with a small border around the edge)

When i then build it and add this control to a form. Some of the edges are cut off and it isn't anchored the way it was in the control.[url]...

as you can see in the second image the control has lost its white border at the right and bottom.

Asp.net - Losing <asp:Label> Text Value From ViewState For Dynamically Added Control?

Mar 5, 2012

I am adding controls to a page programatically in the code behind. I add an asp:Label and set it's Text value. I add an asp:TextBox and set it's Text value. Both Text values are returned in the Response and displayed in the browser. All fine so far.

The user performs an action that causes a postback. I re-load the dynamically added asp:Label and asp:TextBox. When the Response is returned to the browser, only the asp:TextBox Text value is displayed. The asp:Label Text value is not. If I inspect the HTML I can see the asp:Label control (rendered as an HTML span tag) but no value.

How can I get the code to automatically re-load the Text value of an asp:Label on each postback? Why is the behaviour different for an asp:Label and an asp:TextBox? I do not want to have to manually re-set the Text value on each postback.

Here is some code similar to what I am doing (placeHolderNameplates is an asp:PlaceHolder control on the aspx page): Protected Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Init
If Not Page.IsPostBack Then

Release Configuration Mode - Custom Control Losing Property Settings

Jun 27, 2011

I have a custom control that as a custom property. The property has several preset values to chose from a drop down. The control can be added to a form. The property can be viewed and set in the properties box in the IDE. It all works fine.

Here's the problem: I can create new versions and recompile the control and/or the application without the properties preset value being lost as long as I do it in Debug mode. However, once I try to recompile in Release mode the custom property values predefined setting is lost. I first thought it was something with going from debug mode to release mode. But it seems to be ANY time I recompile in Release mode the custom property values are lost. Is this a quirk in VS that needs a configuration setting, etc. to get around it?

Draw Control Past Edge Of Form?

Feb 24, 2010

I've got a usercontrol that's a simple rectangle with three labels on it. It's essentially triggered to give a caption to an image when the mouse is moved over it. As I feared, adding the control to the form (or any container on the form) restricts drawing the control to the region defined by the container. I tried increasing the region of the form and the container, but it still didn't draw outside the container.

So my question is: Is there a way to make the control display partially inside the container/form and partially outside it, or is there a better object type that will do what I want?

Custom Control - Specifying Items To Be Added To List

Sep 30, 2009

I've created a custom control that I insert into my window with the following code
Code:
<controls:ListExpander Text="Class Diagrams"></controls:ListExpander>
The control in question contains several subcontrols, among others, a list. How can create the setup, so I can specify items that should be added to the list?

Code:
<controls:ListExpander Text="Class Diagrams">
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
</controls:ListExpander>

In which case the SomeItem objects should be added to the list in the ListExpander:
Code:
<ListBox Name="lstItems" Background="LightGray">
<ListBox.Items>
// Items should go here
</ListBox.Items>
</ListBox>
I'm quite new to WPF, but I suppose it's something along the lines of creating a dependency collection on ListExpander that takes object of the type SomeItem? I simply want to be able to give the control a few arguments which it can translate into items in the listbox contained within the the control.

Custom Type Cannot Be Cast To Custom Type And Losing Will To Live

Jun 10, 2010

I have been trying to solve a problem related to using RolesProviders in MVC.Basically I would like to an additional set of criteria to the roles table so that a user can switch roles based on what they are doing on the site.However as simple as it may sound its proving to be a nightmare. I cannot for love nor money come up with a solution. I have tried overloading the provider, creating extension methods (which never work with the Roles class) but finally I decided to simply create a reference to my own custom provider and just completely bypass the whole User, Roles class.Now I am getting a ridiculous error which states that I cannot cast MyProvider class to an instance of MyProvider class? All I am doing is calling the Roles.Provider method and casting its return value to my custom provider class (which inherits from RolesProvider). The asp.net forums are a waste of time since no one ever answers the questions and there are simply no examples of extending the Roles/Membership model without using SQL server.

Control Added On The Fly Is Added To The Wrong Location Of An Auto-scroll Panel?

Jun 21, 2010

I have a program that adds controls on the fly to an auto-scroll panel. When the panel is scrolled (viewing the bottom of the panel for example) and a control is added, it looks like it is added assuming the top left corner of the panel is still at 0,0 when in fact it may be 0,500. To see what I am talking about, create an empty "Windows Forms Application" project and insert the below code into it.

How To Position Buttons Relative To Edge Of Form

Jul 18, 2012

I would like my 'quit' button to appear in the bottom right hand corner of my menu screen, but it seems that every computer in the office has a different sized screen, different size ration (some are widescreen) and different resolution. When I deploy my program, the quit button may appear off-screen (the user has to scroll down to find it) or it may appear half way across the screen on a widescreen laptop for example. If I set my form to 'maximized', is there a way to position a button relative to the bottom right hand corner of the form? Also, on one maximized form I have two datagridview's side by side. Is there are way to automatically set each one to take up half of the available form width, so they fill the form nicely?

VS 2010 : Form Snapping To Edge Of Desktop?

Oct 10, 2011

I've got a borderless form that I'm handling the MouseDown, MouseMove & MouseUp events to do the dragging and re-sizing which I have working just fine but I started thinking how neat it would be if I could have the borderless windows snap to each other and to the edges of the screen(s), this part I'm stuck on. I've got them snapping together just but and I've got it snapping to the edge of the screen but I have a dual monitor set up at home and I can't move it to my right side secondary screen with the code I have now. I'm attaching a sample VS2010 project with only the relevant code for this.Eventually I might add in the snapping to the desktop edge or to another note window's edge when resizing too, but that's not my focus right now.

[2008] Can A Form Be Used As A Custom Control

Jan 23, 2009

This relates to WPF but is broad enough that a winform answer will do. I have made a few custom controls in the past by inheriting from whatever particular control I wish to inherent from.

I have noticed that I can add a form to a class/user control library from the add new dialog and have it run. When this application is compiled I get a DLL.

So my question is can I use a Form as a custom control. The reason I ask is I am creating a more advanced MsgBox for a new application I require and a form as its container makes the most sense.

Why Does Form Crash When Change Custom Control

Jun 11, 2009

I have created a custom control that is included in a control library that is referenced by a VB Forms application.

When I modify the control, and have the application open in a VS window, VS usually asks me if I want to reload items that have changed.

However, a couple of times, it has not asked me this, and when I go to open the form that contains the modified control, I get an error window warning me that if I ignore the error message and continue, then I risk making VS unstable. I've learned to ignore this error message, continue, and immediately save the form to a new file.

Item Cannot Be Added To A Read-only Or Fixed-size List?

Jun 11, 2010

InvalidOperationException: Item cannot be added to a read-only or fixed-size list.

I know why this happens.When I add new record to child datagridview, parent datagridview's new row loses focus and then delete row. So this error occures.How do I prevent my program from this exception. Remember, it's only occures if there is no record in the parent datagridview.
