I would like to know if its possible to discard changes of only one record of only one table in datacontext. I use databind to bind my controls on a form. I modify one record at a time. after the modification, the user have to hit save button to validate. But he can hit cancel. I would like that the cancel button discard all the changes that the user has done. Is it possible?
View 3 RepliesI have a LINQ to SQL DataContext with all my tables and all my stored procedures in it. Let me first start off by saying that we are upgrading our project from an access project to a WPF project. So in the Access project you could set a forms datasource to a stored procedure and edit and add new information. So in my WPF project on the page load I call my stored procedure to return an ISingleResult and then call a function to set the binding on every single textbox on the form. One is there an easier way to do this and two what if I want to add a new record since the textbox's are binded to an ISingleResult?

As we are adding the articles into _Data our datacontext we may come across a journalist that needs adding so we do this: [code] However subsequently we may come across this same journalist again and nothing is returned when we do this: [code] So it uses the code above again to insert the same journalist again.Once all of our inserts are done we do a submitchanges. At this point it has a head fit:INSERT statement conflicted with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_ articles_ journalists_journalists'. The conflict occurred in database 'blah', table 'journalists', column 'id'. The statement has been terminated.From looking through the sql generated in sql profiler you can see that it is trying to add some journalists more than once, this will fail as the name must be distinct. The subsequent records that are trying to be inserted with these journalists are failing as the journalist wasn't updated.Surely if I have a collection of journalists, add some to it and then look in my collection I should see all of them and not just the original ones.
View 3 RepliesI am leaning VB and have created a basic inventory app for work that consist of 4 tables, CurrentInventory, Surplus, Staff and Category. Each of these tables have a corresponding form. My question is with the CurrentInventory and Surplus form/tables. I want a button on the CurrentInventory Form that when clicked the current record would be transferred to the Surplus table and deleted from the CurrentInventory table.I am assuming that I could somehow use the INSERT command to copy the current record to the surplus table but I am not sure how to accomplish this.
View 5 RepliesI have two tables Products and Categories with a many to many relationship. I am trying to copy the categories linked to one product (OriginalProduct) to another product (newProduct). The problem is when I execute the SaveChanges() method, I not only get the records in my linking table, but it also creates another copy of the categories in the categories table. I've tried this in many ways but here are the last couple that I've attempted:

I use pictureboxes on my GUI for click controls. The associated function will be executed whenever user clicks the picturebox control.
My question is that, how do I discard(not just suppress) a control click (message) for a period of time (i.e. during the function execution).
I simple just want the click messages made during the function execution discarded by VB.

Okay so what I'm trying to do is get the filename from OpenFileDialog/SaveFileDialog, only without the full path, and dump said filename into a variable so I can use it for other things.
Using the Split function, I can get any part of the array between the delimiters (""), but what I'm trying to do is get all the information after the LAST delimiter in the string.

I am having a trouble on how to update my reocrds on my 2 tables. 1 table is sample and the other table is tbl_educ. my sample table which has a pk of emp_id while the tbl_educ has a field of emp_id they are related by one-many relationship.

I have an Access 2007 DB With 3 Tables I fill a form with information from 2 of the tables which works fine I then want to add a row to the third table with the information obtained from the form.(I know this may seem like duplicating data but there is a reason for doing this that I can explain if needed) This is where I am having the problem. I have the following piece of code which retrieves records from an Oracle database and loads it into a datagridview. The problem is that the first record returned by the query is never loaded into the datagridview. I already counted the records (on the commented part of the code) and the DataReaderOracle object counts allways one more record than the ones loaded into the datagridview.

Is there a way to add a new record in the table adapter without sending it to the DB and get a predicted primary key so I could put this as the foreign key in tables 2 and 3.
