DataGridViewRow.IsNewRow Not Cleared After Setting DataGridViewCell.Value

Jun 18, 2009

DataGridViewRow.IsNewRow property is set for the bottom (empty) row. If I set a cell value in the bottom row using DataGridViewCell.Value, IsNewRow remains set. What is the correct way to programatically set a cell value in the botton row to clear IsNewRow?

.net - Overriding DataGridViewCell.GetClipboardContent?

Sep 5, 2011

Some of my DataGridViewCells return the wrong value in their GetClipboardContent method. They are cells in a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn cells, so they use the displayed property, not the value property of the cell. I want it to return the value itself. An initial attempt was simply using

Protected Overrides Function GetClipboardContent(ByVal rowIndex As Integer, ByVal firstCell As Boolean, ByVal lastCell As Boolean, ByVal inFirstRow As Boolean, ByVal inLastRow As Boolean, ByVal format As String) As Object Return Value End Function in my DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendant but then I noted that this method is called more than one time per cell value, once for every data format DataGridView supports by standard, which are format="HTML", "Text", "UnicodeText" and "Csv". For csv, the base implementation appends a comma if it's not the last cell, for html it adds the correct tags depending on if it's the first/last row/cell in the table/table row, etc. I consider this format-specific, not cell-value specific.

So how could I replace the value that ends up in the clipboard without re-implementing all those format-specific aspects? That would result in quite some code for functionality that already exists in the base class, wouldn't it?

Custom Caret In DataGridViewCell?

Nov 4, 2010

I'm creating a new windows form application based on an existing AS400 application (don't ask). Now the users are used to have a fat, white, blinking caret all over the place, so the first thing they mentioned when they saw my initial release was "where did the cursor go?" "We don't know which field we're filling in"

I tried to explain that there is in fact a cursor inside the textboxes (and that it is called a caret), but they want their big, fat cursor back. After some searching on the internet, combining snippets, I managed to make the caret look like I want (in fact you can use any bitmap image as a caret as long as you invert the colours). Now this seems to work like a charm for textboxes but they want the same caret when they edit a cell of a datagridview (who could have guessed)

DataGridViewCell Background Color Change Without Losing Focus?

Sep 16, 2009

In VB .Net 3.5, is it possible to change the color of a DataGridViewCell (unbound) to a different color and have the cell visibly change before losing focus or leaving the cell? I have a timer that's running that queries with the data present and I'd like for the colors to change immediately instead of after the user leaves the cell.

I've tried DataGridView.Refresh and Me.Refresh and don't get results.

What am I doing wrong? (Below is the code I use to change the background)

Bindingsource.addrow Produces A Row In Datagridview Whose "IsNewRow" Property Is False?

Jan 16, 2010

vb.net 2005 sql 2005 developer.I've done at least 30-40 grids for my clients so i am not exactly new to this.i have an empty bound grid. bound via the drag and drop ide.I click on a button that does an addnew to the bindingsource of the grid. The new row appears filled with empty cells.I want to know how to determine what is the state of the row.

Immeadiately after the addnew, the rows.count is now 1. the value for dgv.rows(0).IsNewRow is false? At this point if i do a bindingsource.canceledit the row dissapears and all is well.If i enter a valid value for some of the rows but not for all of the rows,i hit the uparrow, something happens and the dataerror event is fired. again if i execute a bindingsource.canceledit then the row dissappears and the integrity is ok.If instead of using the up arrow, i click away to lets say cancel button, some strange things begins to happen. The dataerror routine files before the cancel button click event fires. If the row contains valid data then the dataerror event is not fired and the cancel button click event fires. So i am trying to have one button called "delete row".I want it to be able to remove the current row regardless of what state it is in.

If it is still in its add mode then a cancel edit will do. If it has been updated from the grid down to the datatable, then the same is true, a bindingsource.canceledit will work If the row has been pushed out to the sql server, then i have to remove the row in a different way.One such way is to use the datagridview's rows.removeat method.I need to distinguish between a row that is brand new and has not been edited at all from one that is new but has data in it and then the one who has been updated all the way to the server. Bindingsource.CancelEdit and DataGridView.Rows.RemoveAt([currentrow]) are my tools IsNewRow doesnt seem to work.after the bindingsource.addnew, where is the row in the binding source? the Item collection does not have it. The currencymanager.count is still zero?

Programmatically Creating The DataGridViewRow?

Jun 10, 2011

I have an unbound DataGridView control where I have defined the columns at design time.Currently to add a new row I use a like this:

gridname.row.add(value1, value2, value3, value4)

This offends my sense of good programming because if I add a column to the grid or change the order of the columns then I need to alter the line above. What I want to do is to create a new datagridviewrow complete with columns and then populate the values like so:

dr.cells("FirstName").value = value1
dr.cells("LastName").value = value2
dr.cells("Address").value = value3

Just like I do when editing an existing row in the grid.I thought I could do the following:

Dim dr as New DataGridViewRow
dr = MyGrid.RowTemplate

I thought this would give me a new row complete with cells but no values. Appartently this is the wrong property. Is there a property that will give me a blank row, but with the cell names/types that have already been defined in the grid defined in the row?Yes, I know I can take an existing row and just clear the values but when this program load, there are not always existing rows.don't tell me I am going to have to add the columns myself. dr.cell.add(cell definition)

C# - Determine Which DataRow Bound To DataGridViewRow?

When I use a DataTable as a DataGridView's DataSource, I often have to find which row(s) a user has selected and read specific values from the DataTable (not the DataGridView). I wanted to know if there is any reliable way of determining which DataRow a DataGridViewRow is bound to especially when the user has sorted the DataGridView on a column other than the default order.

Currently, I use code of this sort:
Dim sorting = ""

'get the actual row if the results are sorted'
sorting = "[" & DataGrid.SortedColumn.Name & "]" &
