I'm using Visual Basic/Studio 2010 Express to run my VB program using MS Access database. I'm going to convert the Access database to a SQL Server Server Express data base so I downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto my pc with Windows 7. The installation went fine and I actually converted my Access database to SQL server. I did not change anything in my VB program.My problem: When I run my normal program with the Access database (no changes), I now get an error when it executes the following code:
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader.
I get the error System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled;
ErrorCode=-2147467259; Message=ODBC--connection to 'SQL ServerBilotta-pcsqlexpress' failed.
[code]....
It appears the ODBC is looking for the SQL server eventhough the program is pointing to the MS Access db. How do I get it to NOT look for the SQL db? Is there a default setting for the

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.

View 10 RepliesI am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
strFilePath = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fdlgFileOpen.FileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"
connExcel = New OleDbConnection(strFilePath)
connExcel.Open()

Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?
I need to know, how can we attach an USB to any device and detach an USB. I'm using VB 2008 version. I need to write a code for usb detach and attach in windows xp. Whenever usb is detach from the PC side, i should get a message in command prompt saying that, USB is detached and if you insert an USB , then i should get a message saying that, usb attached.
I'm struck which api should use to communicate with usb , to get info such that usb has been attached or detached?
I have a report made in Crystal Reports XI. The report is generated and exported to PDF in visual basic script using COM interface. Generally everything is running smoothly, but in one case generation breaks with error: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code 9421]
Database used is MSSQL 2005 connected over ODBC to CR XI. When I am opening report with exactly the same parameters in Designer, everything works fine.It looks like it is data related, but it is hard to trace since the whole report is pretty sophisticated. Anyway I spent half a day on crawling over Dr. Google and it seems that he has no clue what might be an issue.
I cannot connect to my local sql server using the following line [Code]. I get login failed for user tedpottel. I have security set to window authority i believed, so my other programs (reporting services and cold fusion do not take in a password. (as long as I log in as tedpottel) So I tried conn = SqlConnection("server=(local);database=by") which said failed for user''.

I'm currently upgrading my sql server from 2005 to 2008 enterprise server. I used VB to connect to the database. It worked fine in the previous version of sql, but when upgrading it seems doesn't recognize my connection string.
Below is my connection string:
myConnection = New SqlConnection("server=RAVY-PCRAVY;uid=;pwd=;database=CIEDC");
myConnection.Open();
Where Ravy-PCRAVY is my server name at the sql server login dialogue box. And I used the windows authentication mode.
Error : *"Restore failed for Server '.pipe81DAC374-2583-49 sqlquery'."*
i get the error here resDB.SqlRestore(sv)My backup works fine but restore fails.i am trying to get it working from the past two days and no luck yet.

SQL Server : SQL Express 2008 R2
VB 2010 Express
SQL Server is located on the workstation so the code and the DB are on the same PC
Created a DB connection using the wizard. Tried this with Windows authentication and SQL authentication using sa
Created a Dataset and dragged the grid onto the form1.vb.
In SQL Sertver Management Studio I can update update tables using the same credentials as in the VB connection string
WHen I try to update a record in the VB Dataset it returns the error cannot update database because it is read-only
I have checked the files and folder attributes in SQL Data folder. Nothing is set to read only
I have checked SQL Server Database > Properties > Option > State > Databse Read only = false
I don't what I'm doing wrong here but I cannot get VB to update data via the dataset.
Inotice in SQL Server that the DBname now includes the full path "C:PROGRAM FILESMICROSOFT SQL SERVERMSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATAPAYABLES.MDF" and not just the DB name. Is this becuase VB Express requires you to point to the physical DB file?
I am just curious, if there is some way to attach handler to my derived classes base event, if I know EventInfo and I have Delegate to handler function. I have tried MyEvent.AddHandler(CType(Me, BaseClassType), MyDelegate) already, but no positive result at all. Consider being in need of attaching handler to custom event at runtime, while derived class possibly shadows this event.

Basically on my development machine (XP Pro) the fax sending works correctly via our SBS 2003 server which has the fax services installed. Now I want to upload the ASP webpage to our Windows 2003 Standard server under IIS. When I try to send faxes using this server (via the SBS2003) server I get the exception "Operation Failed".I've installed/uninstalled the Fax Service on our Windows 2003 Standard server but still the same error message.

I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.
I am thinking of giving mono develop a try. I have some questions. Visual Studio 2008 Professional has options for creating controls and services. This is not available in Visual Basic 2008 Express. This relationship between the different editions, is there something limiting like this with mono develop? I figure since it's open source, everything is implemented like Visual Studio 2008 Pro.
Another question. Does anyone have experience with mono. Is it a production level serious environment for commercial work? Is there something I should know about it?
Any mono developer that has anything good or bad to say, please drop a post in here. I would like to get as much info as possible from vbforums. This has always been the best help site for me using Visual Basic Express.
The most important thing, to reiterate is if I can make Windows Services with Mono Develop and if it supports full threading features that are limited or not available in express.
As a last question, what is the story on managed directx for mono. On Linux, there is no such thing, so would you plan an opengl library to start with? or does that work out in a different way?
I've heard a lot about Mono but I have no idea what exactly it is or how to use it. All I know is it's aimed at making .NET apps cross platform. Could someone tell me or point me to some tutorials explaining how to port my vb code to run on other operating systems? Maybe shed some light on all of this?

I am developing an application that is using a Jet database (Access 2007). The database is local to the project (e.g., on the same drive and in the project directory). Any time I attempt to access the database (to create another DataSet, etc., via designer, etc.), I get the ubiquitous "Failed to open a connection to the database" with:

I started a new solution (with multiple projects) and am trying to get it to build. Initially I was getting an internal compiler error and thought maybe it had to do with MySql, so I removed all references to MySql. Now I am getting the error "Could not find a 'Sub Main' in ''". I have made sure that all of my projects have a Main subroutine like this:Public Shared Sub Main()End Sub2 out of the 7 projects will compile. I don't know what makes these projects different from the others, and the error message isn't very helpful. Any experience with this one?

I've downloaded latest source from mono project, compiled it and everything works (c# projects, mod_mono, xsp) except vb.net. Vbnc, mono's vb.net compiler does not exist after compiling mono from source.This is on CentOS 5, on Ubuntu 10.04 I installed mono packages via apt-get and vb.net just works.
View 2 RepliesI read many questions on running .net code with mono but i always end up with the same question. I'm building a new app right now, so i better start straight and take the good direction: Can i develop an app within Visual C# Express or Visual Basic Express, compile it from the Microsoft environment using the compilers they have and run that application using MONO on linux.Or do i have to work with the mono compiler from scratch (or convert my MS project afterwards to mono) to be able to use my .net apps using the Mono framework on linux.Linux/Mac support is not really a must for my app development, but i'd like to get it straight off the start.i'm using WinForms, Encryption, Globalization, SQLClient but thats probably all, is there anything you Mono experts out can tell me NOT to use off the start.Oh and i use the My namespace for all sorts of things such as getting the computer name, logged on user name, resources, settings, etc...
