each of the ToolStripMenuItems has more than 20 ChildItems and each of these ChildItems have more than 30 ChildItems.In my form I havea login form and each user must log in.I want to know that how can I check my UserAccess Table with these MenuItems and ChildItems names and if the user does not have the MenuItem or ChildItem name in UserAccess Table, the MenuItem or ChildItem must be disabled.
View 16 RepliesI have a DB table with the names of my Menus and a User names. After a User is logging succesfully I go through the table with the Menuitem names and enable /disable the menuitems accordingly.
Can anybody kindly show me a workaround on how to do this. For example i have this table below and after succesfully loging in as username "aaaaa". Menustrip items with name accounts and finance should be enabled and the rest like billing will be disable.

I have a combobox that retrieves data from a database. Occassionally i have to disable some items from the table by setting a value in the table so that item is not available in the dropdown for users. I do this through my SQL query i.e.SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE ADDITEMTODROPDOWN=1
When i have the DropDownStyle set to normal (dropdown) and the application loads the dropdown shows the item from the database which is no longer available for users to select (the item is set to disabled or this is fine and is what im after. I then change the DropDownStyle to DropDownList to make it look like a button so users cannot enter their own items. As soon as i load the form with the combobox the item that i disabled no longer appears as the original text.
I want to get all items from one column of database table to the combobox items.

What I want is during login process i want the MDI frm Menu strip to be disabled and can only be enbaled after succesful login. The login form is base on a table that I created with username and password and is working find. I have a VB 2008 form with about a dozen buttons that use ALT+key shortcuts, e.g. names beginning &S, &N, etc. I also have a menustrip with a couple of entries but I have not assigned shortcut keys to any of them. However, three of the entries on the menustrip begin with S, N, and E. The result is that the shortcut keys for those buttons don't work - instead the shortcut activates the menustrip item. For example, ALT+E brings up the Exit on the menustrip instead of activating the button with the &E... label. I even tried setting the shortcut for the menu item to something totally different, but it doesn't matter.Even though I have programmed something different, the menu strip takes precedence on the shortcut. is there any way to just disable shortcut keys on the menustrip? What I've done for now is alter the names of my menustrip items by numbering them, e.g. "5 Exit" instead of "Exit" so that ALT+5 does the exit and leaves ALT+E for the button I want it to be associated with.

I have made an Access database complete with a report/form UI, however I am now looking to take this further to Visual Basic. In my Access database I have a log-in form to access some secure reports. I am now trying to do the same thing in Visual Basic, with no luck. I have created the UI elements i.e. buttons and text boxes, but am now stuck at how to implement the code.What I want to do is make the login button check what's in the username/password boxes with a table in my Access database.

I tried to drag this table to the form as a checkbox tool, but only one checkbox1 was diplayed. The table consists of four rows. My requirement is when I drag the checkbox I want to see the all items in the first column, i.e. four checkboxes that hold the same name as in the table in the database, and when I check one or more items to be able to use, in somehow, the price(s) to make some kind of calculations.

I have my program set up to read the contents of a Directory, and then populate a drop down menu with the names of the files in the directory. (I am using the MenuStrip). Inside my program, it is also set up to create a new file in that directory, and I wish to add this item to the dropdown menu upon creation. The list is entirely created and populated from the code, and the contents of the list depend entirely on what's in the directory.
I have tried using MenuStrip.Items.Remove(menuItem1). Now, when this command gets executed, it does remove the top level Menu, however when I go to repopulate the menu, I end up with duplicates of my files listed in the drop down. I am stuck with how to clear these out as well?
Visual studio 2005 - vb.net..I have a user control on a form containing 15 combo boxes.All contain Y, N, and blank (for Yes, No, or blank) in the Items Collection property.Each of the combo boxes have a binding source to the same table, different fields.When you select a value Y, N, or blank for any of the fields and do a save, the values save while the application is open.Once you close and reopen, the values are gone.It appears the dataset does not recognize the change, so the values are not getting stored in the database table. Is there something I can do or put in one of the events that would identify this as a change.

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

All textbox fields must be filled before the user can click the button to continue. To this end I would like to disable the button as long as there is at least one empty textbox.
If I had only one textbox field, it would be easy for me to do. In the Textbox1_Leave event I would check if Textbox1.Text is not empty and if so, set Button1.Enabled = True.But what should I do if I have three textboxes? Have three event handlers, one for each textbox? Or is there a way I'm not familiar with?

In VB.NET, I have a LinkButton that, when clicked, creates a report. We want to disable this functionality based on whom is logged into the system. I have a session variable to indicate whether this should be visible or not but when I set idLinkButton.visible = False, it has no effect. Any ideas on what I need to do to be able to turn this on and off?
