Disable aero in visual basic HowTo: How to programatically disable the Windows Aero theme for standalone ArcGIS applications
C# - Enable / Disable DWM Composition (Aero)
Any of you whiz bang kids know how to accomplish this with VB6? (I realize this is not a VB6 forum but just curious if any of you VB.NET programmers know how to translate this into VB6 Basically, this code ported to VB6
[DllImport("dwmapi.dll", PreserveSig = false)]
public static extern int DwmEnableComposition(bool fEnable);
static void Main(string[] args)
after many weeks of annoying compatibility with windows xp, I realized that I should change the .netbar buttons to standard windows buttons. When I did this, and put the button on the transparency area and then debugged the application. I found out that the transparency add-in made the text inside the button transparent: How can I make the text show just the color, not transparent?
How can I disable Windows Aero in Visual basic. I ask of this because windows aero is causing problems with the look of my applications and I would like a way to be able to turn it off.

I have a theme called 'Zune' on my computer, and like the way it looks.Is there a way too, make the program use the 'Zune' theme..even if the computer itself is using the default xxxx theme?I can simulate it by doing the graphics, but to make the program border less, then to do the move code when they click on the image box...etc... makes it for tedious work.
If I could somehow make the program use the theme..
As my Christmas week side-project I thought I'd knock up a quick console app that I can run from the windows Start-up folder.
The application is going to delete some unwanted Global Corporate Desktop Icons (I like to run a clean desktop - is this common?) and Reset the Windows 7 Theme to my lovely Visual Studio 2010 graphics.
I have read the reasons why this shouldn't be done pro grammatically for the user but I feel this case is different as every morning I am manually deleting the icons and resetting the theme (policy is not stopping this - just reapplying it every morning) so I though this little side project could save me time in the long term.
I am deleting the Icons OK but I am struggling to set my theme ala:
Dim key As RegistryKey = My.Computer.Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionThemes", True)
[Code]....
This is setting the registry key correctly but not applying it. Ultimately I may try a simple Wallpaper Set but I would like to use the theme if possible!
Previously I used to piddle around with VB6 to develop a couple of personal projects. Following my upgrade to Windows 7, I've decided to piddle about with vb.net Express Edition 2010.If I wanted my VB6 application to blend in with the visual style of Windows, I would use the code and techniques described here. In short, I would use a Manifest file and a couple of calls within the application and most of the elements would look similar to the XP theme applied. If it was run on 2000, 95 or 98 then it would look like a standard Windows app. All was good.
Now I've moved onto vb.net, I've written a simple "Hello, world" application but I have absolutely no idea on how to make it look like the Windows 7 theme (eg. the font matches the system font and the widgets are styled correctly).Just changing the font is a hack and will look out of place on machines that are set-up differently or run a different version of Windows where the default font is different.How do I ensure my application matches the applied Windows theme irrespective of the version of Windows?
I'm having trouble getting an naero glass code which works properly. I hav ecome across many in which anything black becomes aero aswell. Is it possible to have the black text unaffected by the aero like, change it so that another colour becomes aero instead?Also this is just an extra but can you change the colour of the aero you have? Like default is blue change you change it to like yellow, or black or another colour?
Is it possible to draw WPF elements in Aero style, running on Windows XP? Also can you change the window style to look like Aero? BTW I found a reference PresentationFramework.Aero, is it something to do with this?
I am creating a winform,that I want to have the same look and feel on a window on windows 7? I thought of using CreateWindowEx. But I am just randomly picking things and not going anywhere.
I have created an application in Visual Basic 2010 which supports for Windows Aero (glassy effect) . But if Aero isn't enabled, error messages appears in the application. I need to know the code to ientify wheter Windows Aero is enabled or not.
how to get working aero in Visual Basic 2008.I am making this media player and got everything I need for that. But what I really wanted is aero since Windows Vista got a nice interface and a few lucky people got it.But the tutorials I got worked great on Windows 7! However, I couldn't get aero because of a transparency key. (I swear I use a color picker to see if background color and transparency key are the same color.)I can't get it to work any piece of code I give.But the good part is that aero WILL work on any 7 or Vista without any form change, but the text is white with blue specks and that is not what I want.
EDIT:i found how to do it now! you need to use the property UseCompatibleTextRendring and put it to True. Now the problem is how do i do the same for the rest? (microsoft was to lazy to edit the controls)
I'm trying to have Aero Glass look in my forms in VB.NET 2010 app with DWM API, but as function call suggests, it extends look of Frame to the client area, and if form has no border, nothing will happen and form will become invisible. So, can I get Aero glass in a form without any border.... ??
My program can detect when Aero is present, but it has trouble when the user is in Aero Basic because it doesn't use the transparency or glass look. I am wondering if there is a call to the dwmapi that can tell me if the computer is using Aero Basic.
I found this question on StackOverflow. Basically, the user wanted to draw custom buttons on the titlebar. I tried the code and realised it works in vista/7 only when Aero is disabled. My question is, is there any way to draw custom buttons on the titlebar while aero is enabled? Any way of reading information from the current theme so I can style my buttons to match the already existing ones.
Here is a screenshot from my computer demonstrating the above concept. I got the additional titlebar buttons after installing DisplayFusion. And I know DisplayFusion is a .NET program because it opens in .NET Reflector. The down side is that the program is obfuscated. Not like I wanted to decompile the program or anything; I just want to add a button to my titlebar to do something else (like minimise to the system tray for instance). Below is the screenshot, proving the program is a .NET app.

This semester I have task to build an internet kiosk software. But, I face difficulty to start it. I don't know how to disable and enable windows key, ctrl+alt+del key, and the alt+tab key. Is there anyone know how to do that??? I'm using vb.net 2008.

How to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del in Windows 7 when the application loads? I'm looking for an example that disables Ctrl+Alt+Del when the app starts, and enables the combination again once it finishes.I found an example that disables the combination on Windows XP, however it doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Why? Is it not allowed on Windows 7 to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del?Also, I'd like to know how to run an application as admin on Windows 7?
How to disable all combination key of windows, I managed to disable taskmanager and altf4, however failed to find disable all windows keys, alt esc. alt space and etc. I don't have any API background.
I have an application than disables the screen saver temporarily in order to run a slide show. I use this to turn it on or off:
i = SystemParametersInfo(SPI_SETSCREENSAVEACTIVE, active, Nothing, SPIF_SENDWININICHANGE)
This works fine in XP. In Windows 7, it disables the screen saver properly. However, when it is enabled again, at the normal time for the screen saver to come on, the system asks for a password instead of showing the screen saver.From this time on until the screen saver settings are adjusted in the control panel, the password screen is displayed in place of the screen saver.Is there something else I should be doing for Windows 7? I understand that SPI_GETSCREENSAVEACTIVE is not supported in Windows 7, but SPI_SETSCREENSAVEACTIVE is supposed to be.
