Dec 7, 2010I call a function (SaveChanges) to access my business / data layer and save any changes to fields that are marked as an Add or Update and are marked to be processed. This function used to work fine up until 60+ minutes ago. What is happening is that suddenly the function is returning false. After debugging through the code, when it hits Return the local boolean is set as True but when it gets back to the calling method (and uses the return value) it is now False. As I said I went through line by line and debugged it, then I added a watch to it. The funny part is that there is one spot that sets the Boolean to false, and when I put a breakpoint on that spot it is never reached.
Here is the function:

Oct 3, 2009[VB.Net 2008 Express Edition]I have a 2D array of Integers called Map(0 to 79, 0 to 79)In this array I store IDs for tiles to be loaded later.I'm trying to write a module to generate a random dungeon every time it starts by making a room 10x10 tiles in the middle, picking a wall, making a hallway from that wall, and adding a room to the end of that hallway.From there it picks a random wall anywhere in the map, adds a hallway and a room, and repeats until the number of floor tiles is high enough [400 atm] The problem is that when the rooms and hallways are made, it first runs a function to return whether or not that space is empty. The problem is that even when I know for a fact the space is empty, it returns false. I don't understand why. Here's the Clear function.

Apr 6, 2009this its a function i made to make sure all the fields on a form are filled before to save to database but once it finds a object it should exit. but it just doesnt... i tried also with exit for and exit sub also tried puting the exit for just after the msgbox shows up but it wont exit, this its the last thing i did using a flag but it doesnt exit either.

The user has to select the radiobutton that displays the exact number of letters in the random word. What I am having trouble with is creating a Public Function to check if the answer selected is the correct one. The radio buttons are within a groupbox. The Public Function returns a boolean True or False.

If I get an invalid date I want to clear the content and reset the focus back giving a message box warning. [code]It all seems to work until I then try to enter a new date. The first number a press seems to push the mask characters to the right and then the rest works. So if I entered 01/01/2009 I end up with _1/01/2009.

Jun 22, 2010I am using MS Visual Studio 2205 Version 8.0.50727.42 and MS.Net Framework Version 2.0.50727 SP2 I created a form that requires the user to enter a date into the textbox.I then use the IsDate function to check if the entry is a valid date. IF Not IsDate(fieldname) then send message back to user on form, otherwise continue.If something like this is enterred - 06/090/10 - It passes the IsDate question and of course fails at the database level when inserting to a datetime field. Although there is a three character day, it still passes.

I realize that I can't force an anonymous type into a specific type (like implementing an interface or some other class), and I don't want the overhead of defining a specific class just to match my desired fluent name with the actual method name. So I was able to make the code work like this:
copy(my_first_file).to.Invoke(my_second_file)So there is no IntelliSense or type awareness there, and I have to include the Invoke in order to have the method run. How can I get more type safety and exclude the Invoke method, under these constraints: Anonymous Type returned from Method No additional classes or interfaces Preferably, I do not want to pass in another parameter to the copy() method that tells what type to return, unless copy becomes a generic method (but I think that means defining another class/interface, which I don't want to do)
Forms - Dialog Box Shows When Function Returns Nothing And Sub Doesn't Exit
Aug 5, 2010I am having trouble with some code I am writing to handle an Excel spreadsheet. The idea is that the dialog box is displayed which invites the user to select an Excel spreadsheet. Once they have done that, it is opened and a separate function checks to see whether Sheet1 exists returning Nothing if it is not found. The intention being the try/catch block picks it up and gracefully does nothing. The problem is that when the function returns nothing, the dialog box is still displayed and the sub doesn't seem to exit. [Code]

FormClosing And Application.Exit Is Causing The MessageBox To Ask If Want To Exit Twice
Jun 12, 2007I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.

But it does not !
When you run these lines, then you will see that IsNothing(d) evaluates to False
