How do i specify that IEFontSize is the value i want to edit and how do i edit the Binary value.
Oasically outlook express now uses windows search to keep a count of emails sent. Whenever you get to 100 it forces you to manually compact them.
There is however a counter in the windows registry which can simply be set back to zero. I was wondering if i could create a macro that would load on windows startup that would reset the counter automatically in the registry whenever it got past say 75.
Ok well i wasent quite done. (For thoughs of you who dont know what im talking about i just made a post few minuts before this)
Ok my LAST, LAST, LAST Q *few* Is there any way to dissplay registry keys in a listbox? And can i edit them within vb?
Can I edit the registry in Visual Studio 2008? If so does anyone have a link to any code that I could look through?
View 3 RepliesIs there a way to view the registry and edit/add using TCP client and server. How would I do this?
View 9 RepliesI found this code on here to open a text fille, do a find & replace then save the changes, and the code is in a loop that will do that to every file in a given folder. My question is I also have files in sub folders, and more sub folders, and i'm not sure how deep it goes. I want to recursivly go though all the sub folders and do this to all the files, not just the files directly in the main folder.
Here is the code so far:
Code:
FolderBrowserDialog1.Description = "Select Path for files to edit"
FolderBrowserDialog1.ShowDialog
OpenPathVariable = FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath

I'm having trouble getting my app to auto-start by adding a registry key. The problem it is having is checking if the user has admin privileges. I tried setting the thread principal, because before it would always return false when I tried My.User.IsAuthenticated, but when I check if My.User.IsInRole("Administrators"), it still returns false, even when it should return true.Here's my current code. This worked fine without even setting the thread principal when I was just creating a regular Windows Form.
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetThreadPrincipal(New Security.Principal.GenericPrincipal(New Security.Principal.GenericIdentity("UserName"), Nothing))
If My.User.IsAuthenticated Then

i have been working on VS 2008 for past 6 months and right now i am working on some little project which requires the value in reg_binary in XP to be decoded to readable string of the original form

I am coding in Visual Basic. I am using a checkbox control. Now depending on its checked property I need to set/unset a bit column in a SQL Server database. Here's the code:
Try
conSQL.Open()
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("update Student set send_mail = " + _
[Code].....
The send_mail attribute is of bit datatype. This code is not working.
I am retrieving some records from a database dynamically, not knowing exactly which table I need to query, or even which fields to retrieve. I display this data in a control that looks a bit like a listbox, except each item is two lines: a label and a value. Now, the user needs to be able to browse through this list until he finds the item he needs, and then he should be able to edit the item.
This application will (eventually, this is just a 'proof of concept') run on a mobile device or PDA or something like that, so space is limited. To allow the user to edit a value, I simply show a panel containing some edit control (textbox, checkboxes, combobox, etc), let the user edit whatever he's editing, save the change and display the list of items again.[code]...
I have been using Visual Basic for about 2 weeks now so I know I am getting in over my head at this point, but times a factor. I have created a user form with around 100 User entered text boxes and pull down menus, tabbed pages etc. I can create a distributable file with no problem. However I cannot find any kind of example, tutorial, etc that will show me how to allow an end user to save the form as "enterfilenamehere.DCP" (for example) and then reopen any .dcp file created in my form application. The only examples and tutorials I can find are how to type text and save it as a txt. format. Could someone lend a complete novice some advice or point me in a good direction on where to learn about saving and opening custom file types?To clarify The user can use my form, But at this point has no way of saving and recalling what they entered in my form. It's a one time use only...not really what I want.
View 7 RepliesI have an App where I'd like to be able to edit any type (font, colour, point etc.) at run time and use any of the .Net default type editors. (e.g., font/ colour picker).
Rather than re-invent the wheel, I decided to use the property grid control.
If I pass an object of, say font, to the grid, it lists all the fields separately, with no option to open the font picker.[code]...

I need to check a value within the registry. The application (Cisco VPN) is a 32bit app so uses Wow6432Node when installed on 64bit operating systems.What would be the best method of selecting which string to use? Checking the OS for x64, attempting to read one and then the other if the first fails? Or is there a better method?
Dim keyName64 As String = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareWow6432NodeCisco SystemsVPN Client"
Dim keyName32 As String = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareCisco SystemsVPN Client"
Using .net 4.0 framework?:
Dim registryKey As RegistryKey
If Environment.Is64BitOperatingSystem = True Then
registryKey = registryKey.OpenBaseKey(Microsoft.Win32.RegistryHive.LocalMachine, RegistryView.Registry64)
Else
registryKey = RegistryKey.OpenBaseKey(Microsoft.Win32.RegistryHive.LocalMachine, RegistryView.Registry32)
End If

View 3 RepliesI'm using VB.NET in Visual Studio 2008 in a Vista 64-bit OS. I'm trying to find an easy way (there must be one) to quickly retrieve from the registry the application file name and path to use in a Shell command to open a particular file. Specifically, I want the user in my app to be able to click on a PDF file and have the app open that PDF file using the application associated with PDF file types - Acrobat Reader, for example. Anyone have any suggestions as to proper coding & syntax for the following sequence?:
(1) Get name of .exe file associated with .pdf file type (most likely from the HKey Root Classes hive)
(2) Get path for the .exe file
(3) Shell("[pathname]appname.exe filename.pdf")
I've spent a couple of hours looking through the forums and haven't found what I'm looking for.
Here is the current regex
"src=[""'](http://|./|/)?w+(.w+)*(/w+(.w+)?)*(/|?w*=w*(&w*=w*)*)?[""']>"
What I am trying to do is to grab element that is:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.mysite="I need to grab everything inside these quotes">
With the current Regex I am able to grab the value but it also grabs all the "src" elements on the page.
src="http://www.mysite="I need to grab everything inside these quotes">
What I am attempting to do is to only get this one line that includes the
<script and then the src="">
And then just get the src="info from hrere" How can I edit the current regex code to include <script type="text/javascript"

I try now to add an edit button that will edit existing entries.User will select a given entry on the list and press edit button and will be presented with an appropriate form (AddContFrm).Right now it simply adds another entry with the same title. I'm trying to read in a file. I'm not even sure what kind of data the file contains. Is it binary, unicode, etc? Or maybe it is encryted? I doubt it is encrypted, but I really have no clue. I am pretty sure it contains geometric/drawing data. It shows most characters as boxes.I've attached a picture of the contents when I open it in wordpad. Does anyone have a clue what type this is? and how to get it into a readable format using vb.net?

Currently, I am try to get the email addresses that have been saved or stored by the user of the computer. This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. The email addresses that are used on the current computer. I just can't seem to find them on my computer.I am not sure if the registry is the only place to find it or if it stored on the web browser such as internet explorer or google chrome.
View 1 RepliesI am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
In this key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass{4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.
