Error Adding Items To Dictionary

Mar 8, 2012

I have the following piece of code which is giving an odd error that I can't seem to locate.[code]...

I manually edited the file to remove the item where the error is happening and it continues to happen on the next item. If I stop it at 2500 no problems. Could it be to many items in the dictionary maybe.

Use Linq ToDictionary To Return A Dictionary With Multiple Values In The Dictionary Items?

Jan 25, 2010

I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.

.net - "Peeking Ahead" While Looping Through Dictionary Items?

Nov 3, 2009

This seems like it should be something very easy to do, but every time I approach this issue, I end up w/ solutions that feel "less than elegant" Here is my basic question: If I am looping through a dictionary that I have ordered in a particular way, within any given point in the loop how can I "peek" or get reference to a dictionary item 'x' places ahead of the current item without changing the current enumerator? For instance:

Dim tempDictionary = New Dictionary(Of String, String)
tempDictionary.Add("TestName1", "TestValue1")
tempDictionary.Add("TestName2", "TestValue2")
tempDictionary.Add("TestName3", "TestValue3")

.net - Does Not Throw Compiler Error When Setting Dictionary To IList

Jul 6, 2011

I am updating a legacy application, and it was reading a dll from another project for a Dictionary(of Guid, String) of items and using them.

The requirements have changed, and the method that was returning the Dictionary is now returning an IList.

This is the odd behavior of this; the intellisense is not throwing a cast error, nor is the compiler. It does not throw an error until runtime when it tries to set the Dictionary to the IList.

Example:

Dim someDictionary As Dictionary(Of Integer, String) = New Dictionary(Of Integer, String)
Dim someList As IList(Of Integer)
someDictionary = someList

why the compiler is not catching this?

Flatten A Dictionary Of Dictionaries And Sum The Values Of The Inner Dictionary With LINQ?

Apr 16, 2012

I have the following object:

countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:

groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)

The best result I could get was:

Lookup(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

From:

countDictionary.ToLookup(Function(o) o.Key.MasterCategory, Function(o) o.Value)

Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value. However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.

Current Code

[Category Class]
- MasterCategory As Enum
- Name As String etc

Adding Items From List Box

Jan 28, 2010

I'm learning how to add items from a list box to a combo box. I'm trying to follow what's going on in the function loop and comparing a boolean and selected index. I can see that it's comparing the item chosen to each item already in the combo box to make sure that it's not already there. If function finds that it's not in the list it sends back that it is true that the item is not in the list.

It then continues to the statement that adds item to the list. The code for the double click event is working fine and items are getting added to combo box. However, the code for the add button isn't functional. I'm not seeing why it doesn't work? I coded out the original code, and replaced with something I thought might work but it still isn't functional. [Code]

Adding Items To A Combobox?

Nov 27, 2007

In VB.Net for an ASP project I was able to do the following:

Dim Item As ListItem While DataReader.Read Item = New ListItem Item.Text = DataReader.Item("CustomerName").ToString Item.Value = DataReader.Item("CustomerNumber").ToString Me.lstCustomers.Items.Add(Item) End While

However in a VB.Net Windows Project it won't let me duplicate this.

I need to display the CustomerName but return the CustomerNumber of the selected customer

I am also adding the items in code because they are changing based on changing values.

I am currently trying to pass MyDictionary into a function, filter it into a new instance of MyDictionary and pass this new instance into another method.
