View 13 RepliesI have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.

So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)

It selects the combo box but not selecting the desired "this is my default value (TEST) - First" from the list. Basically what it is doing is selecting any value that starts with t . e.g first value is "TMP". So instead of exactly matching it is selecting any first character match.how to force it to select the exact string from list.Also tried using the following code but nothing seems to work

When I loaded it on a machine running Windows 7 64 bit, the application runs fine, but one window that has MenuItem controls does not work properly, instead of being able to change items from the collection, that area is just greyed. I loaded the .NET 4.0 framework on it in hopes of some miracle, but it still does not work.

View 5 RepliesI am making a change to some code written in vb.net, its a winforms app. The menuitem uses the System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem control. I need to display the values in that drop down menu into 2 columns. It displays a number of items and therefore is too long.I wish to display the items side but side in 2 columns. In C# you can use ToolStripMenuItem which allows you to display multiple columns. Even though ToolStripMenuItem is available in Vb.net its difficult for me in the current app to switch to that tool.

View 6 RepliesMy FIRST DAY using VS2010, vb.net winforms. I add a form to my project, add a listbox to the form click the Listbox Tasks button click the Use Databound Items checkbox click the Data Source dropdown get an error: "error using the dropdown: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" I had to close Visual Studio and open it again before I could create a simple databound listbox. Every time a new version of VS is released, I hope it will be more stable, but its not. Just more features.
View 5 RepliesI got a serious problem. Though I have made my program newly it shows error. I have used 1280,1024 animation only for first form then used 1280,1024 image for every form. Today I was checking then it was showing me error message for 19th & 20th form. If I use On Error Resume Next then it shows error for another form ; if I use same code there in the menu item I mean so that I can get rid of error when I click to show a form it shows another error. First error message is "InvalidOperationException was unhandeled An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is parameter is not valid." and second error is "OutofMemoryException was unhandled Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown". I have noticed it that it doesnt show error message for those form which have few labels and text boxes. It shows error message for those forms which have 1 menu bar, 2 picture boxes(one is 1280,1024 & another is 250,456), 2 group boxes, 40 labels, 3 combo boxes, 38 text boxes & three buttons. Please help me I need to get rid of this problem. Does it mean that I cant use unlimited control there in my form?
