View 6 RepliesI have some code to execute code at runtime...
Here is the main
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try
If TextBox1.Text.Trim <> "" Then
If TextBox2.Text.Trim <> "" Then
[code]....
When the button is pressed, it all works and the following files are created: yahoo.dll and yahoo.pdb My question is this: What is the code to load the already compiled yahoo files to execute the code again, without having to recompile the code?
I want to develop a program using VS 2010 Pro, VB and .NET 4.0 to run on a Windows standalone computer. The program will be loaded by another program that checks for a text file in a directory. When that file exists, the program I want to develop will be started and it will process the text file. The new program will not have any buttons or dialog boxes, it will simply display the progress of the processing of the text file and then it will simply terminate and exit.
I know I can start the processing by putting code in the LOAD event for the form, but i want to make a new class for all the processing to start from and have the new class perform all of the steps necessary to complete the processing of the text file.Of course this new class will use other classes to do all of the different processing steps. How do I execute that new class from the Form LOAD event?
I'd rather not go into the detail of the problem, because it's a lot of typing... but the functionality of vb.net (when making a web application) is quite annoying.
This is what it does...Page1.aspx loads, then you push a button on the page, and that button then does this: Response.redirect("Page2.aspx")
But first, it does Page1's load event, then it does the btn.Click event, THEN it does Page2.aspx's load event... Is there a way to force it to not do Page1's load event, and just make it execute the button click, and the page2's load event?
I am working with database information, and I have to add code in a dateforms , load event handler .That should set the value of the date time picker to match that of the date time picker in the main form?
View 1 RepliesI have a form that is built and loaded dynamically when File/open is selected.however I now want to use the same code to open a default file and populate the form using the Form load event to call:
Private Sub OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OpenToolStripMenuItem.Click how would I do this? Just incase this doesn't make sense, I want the same code to run during form load as if the user selected file/open but do not know the syntax of how to call OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click() from form load.
I've been working on creating forms and objects through code in the the load event of Form1, truthfully theres a few questions I have under this one category but to start I want to create a button click event that will check what button was pressed then set that button to a variable. I want the event to treat the button that was clicked like it was that buttons click event. Here's a shortened version of my code (Lol if you can call this short):

I am using VB.NET for Windows applications. What is the difference between Load event,Activate event and Enter event in the Form and in which order the above event is executed.
View 2 RepliesI've been reading a few posts in here and some are related to my problem, but for some reason the solutions provided dont work for me. Basically I have two GridView controls with checkboxes. They have the exact same code, but just fire different events. And of course have different IDs and their pertinent unique information. Here is the weird thing, one of them works just fine, and the other one doesn't. I will post both here, keep in mind that the one with ID="UnassignElegibilityChk" is the onte that is not working. I've put breakpoints to test whether I am inside the function when I send the postback from the check and nothing.[code]....
View 1 RepliesI want a rich text box to display public variables like (pizza toppings links etc that have been selected in other forms) these variables have declare in a module. But I want the rich text box to display these variables as soon as the screen loads ( a on form load event) if you know what I mean.
View 1 RepliesI've read thru Iceplug's tutorial on control arrays and got it working. I tried to add a new event by basically copying his click event code and calling it a doubleclick event. I used the proper addhandler and assigned the correct name to my sub. I have the click event changing the background color to blue and the doubleclick event changing the background color to green. The background color does not change to green. Why?
Heres the tutorial with my new code encased in asterisks ...
Code:
Imports System
Imports System.Windows.Forms
Public Class form1

I'm trying to execute different code depending on the button clicked (button 4 or 5) on Form1, but when I click on button5 to activitae the code on the Form2's Load event everything is Ok, but when I click the back button to return to Form 1 and click on the Button4 to activate the code on the Form2's Load event again, it doesn't active the Form's Load event, is there a way to form the form load event every time I access it from Form1? [code]
View 7 RepliesOK, here is the problem....When I load my application I am using the application loading events in VB.NET 2005...The problem is that the module events will sometimes cause msgbox errors, etc..
View 7 RepliesI'm using VB NET 2005 I have genereted a public class with one event so declare
Public Event Interupt()
I insert this code where I want to generate the events
RaiseEvent Interupt()
To use this class in other class use this code
Public IClass As New Cl
Public WithEvents Data As Cl
The code for the su of event is this:
Public Sub RsEvent () Handles Data.Interupt
Why doesn't came generatethe RsEvent?I verify in debug with break point that the code raise event is executed
Following on from my post yesterday (how to anchor buttons/controls to various sides of the current form when the form is resized) I have run into another problem. I am setting the width of my datagrid to be 80% of the form width on a 'form resize' event with 10% of the width at either side so it remains centred in whatever size window is available. This works fine. (mydatagrid.width = me.width/5*4)
I then decided to dynamically set the width of the 2 columns in the datagrid each to 50% of the width of the datagrid. Again, this sub is called in the 'form resize' event. This fails because the datagrid hasn't loaded the data from my sql database when the first 'resize' event is triggered. I did a bit of testing (by placing a simple msgbox statement into the resize event and the load event) and it seems the 'resize' event is triggered three times before the form's load event.
how do I stop the resize event triggering when the form loads (or at least make the load event trigger first).
I have read a few threads related to hot keys but they seemed to be a little different. My case is that I have a form with about 12 buttons and I would like to assign a few keys to each button so maybe if the user pushed "ctrl + a" it would execute the first button. Is there a simply way to do this?
View 4 Repliesi want to execute a command if the KeyDown-event occurs. This command should only be fired if the Enter-Key was pressed.
View 2 RepliesI want to execute a code after every 5 min.I am trying to develop the application in .net and using the C# as a backend language. My basic requirement is a C# code which executes after every 5min which i click a start button on my .net form.
View 6 RepliesWhy do Me.Hide() And me.visible do nothing under form loading event? Now the obvious answer to me was because how could you call a form to hide if it has not loaded. Make's sense to me. So i checked the documentation to see what options i had. If the form isn't loaded when the Hide method is invoked, the Hide method loads the form but doesn't display it. Interesting. So from what i gather here me.hide should still hide the form. Or have i misinterpreted the documentation? Because the form does still display. Neither also work under Public Sub New().
The only solution i found was under sub new was to change the forms opacity to nothing. Which works fine. But after reading the documentation on Opacity i am still left with another question regarding "Visible vs Hide Vs Opacity" Calling me.hide makes the forms visible property false, Calling opacity set to Nothing makes the form in visible. Both these methods do the required task but does one take up more memory or should be favored over the other? Just because some thing work's i have learned it is not always necessarily the best way to do something.
for example there is a file named abc.exe in c:
what would be the code for executing this file?
How do I hide the bottom taskbar and set the form to maximum in button event?
View 2 RepliesI have a simple Windows Form that hosts property controls at runtime. When the user clicks Close [X] I want to keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, canceling the event and simply hiding the form.
That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation? (The form's controller calls KillForm explicitly after it receives a closing event from the main window.)[code]...
I know this requirement may seem weired to many of you but it is one of my project requirement. Is it possible to add code in Sp and execute in .Net exe. Like on button click i call one SP that SP returns few line of code and then program execute the code.
View 4 RepliesBeen spending some time on Codility.com recently and it crossed my mind; how do they execute the code you have created (Specifically pertaining to C# and VB.NET) ?
What I am basically wondering is how would I take a textbox on a form type some code in it and then run that code? Is this possible without 3rd party tools?
I need to to make a timer that will execute my code every 30 minutes
View 8 RepliesCan anyone think of a clever way to execute a piece of code every time a form opens, application wide? I have an app with about 45 screens, and I don't want to drop code in each form load event.

View 12 Replieshow to run code "in the background".As a form is loaded into memory I have the following code filling a listbox from a database table with this sub.I read in one of the documents about making code efficient that I could make this execute in the background. The list box is not needed immediately.

I have an app that allows a user to type in code that can be executed much like vba code in the office world.I currently execute this code with the Proprietary Dexterity code used with MS Dynamics - GP.However, my users need to be able to run outside the Dexterity world. The easy answer is to allow them to type in vb scripting or vb code instead of dex code. However, I can't find an easy way to dynamically execute their code within my methods.CodeCom looked like it could be the answer, but If i'm reading it right, I would have to know what libraries the user is using in their code for vb.Thus, I thought to simply limit them to vb scripting.Unfortunately, I can't find a way to execute vb scripting from within vb, (all the articles are ancient and most links fail - thus I gotta believe there is an easier way).I'm at a deadline where I developed the prototype but trying to use sql statements failed miserably when trying to execute.
View 3 RepliesI am totally new to VB2008, so please bear with this likely dumb question.
I have seen numerous "my first program" tutorial that show you how to create your form, put controls on it, etc. I can get through those just fine.
However, I am wondering: If I compile a set of subroutines into a .exe, how do I indicate which code/sub to execute initially? I am an old school programmer (remember COBOL?), and we always had a starting point; a set of code execute, that initiated execution of other subroutines, functions, etc.
I have dabbled in VBA for Excel, and MS Access, and even those, you indicate in the interface, and menus you create, that first bit of code that brings up the menu, or perhaps the program's main interface.
