This code can edit the Configuration file in the run Time but if I restart the system the Configuration file will return back to the first Configuration.
I am using following code to edit and update field in my databse table. But it does not cast any effect on database.

I am developing an application that is using a Jet database (Access 2007). The database is local to the project (e.g., on the same drive and in the project directory). Any time I attempt to access the database (to create another DataSet, etc., via designer, etc.), I get the ubiquitous "Failed to open a connection to the database" with:
No error message available, result code: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF).
Opening the Database Explorer and attempting to attach to the database results in the above as well. There are no apparent locks on the file, etc., and I'm the sole developer for this.
I am beginner in Vb.net. I try to connect SQl server from VB.net by ADO.net but has run time error in this line.

Whenever I run my service it never responds, I know it isn't the service as I have one similar running in a different aspx file running. I've looked into it and it's something to do with the web.config file but I don't know where. I was given a small web config file however when you put it in the place it says it doesn't like one specific line of coding in it. This is the error I am getting:

Currently I'm working on a piece of code that involves using the Crystal Reports Viewer to export .RPT files to PDF. My problem is that the code works on literally everything except the website I'm planning to eventually put it on.
When placed on the website it throws back the error "Failed to open the connection." which I believe is connected to the SQL Server connection that's formed in order to read data for the report itself.
The code itself is solid and works when used in a separate console application I built to test it whether said code is run on my local machine or on the server itself. It even runs when I test the website in Visual Studio's virtual host.
I've narrowed it down to being some sort of permissions issue, but I am not knowledgeable enough in the various permissions settings to figure out which ones specifically apply to this situation. It's worth mentioning that other pages on the website are directly connecting to the same database, but they are doing so directly through Linq instead of going through the Crystal Report Viewer.
So does anybody know which settings I need to modify in order to fix the connection error.An added note: One of the other suggestions is to make sure there's an ODBC DNS in place that matches the one being used by the code. I have created such a DNS already.
I'm trying to connect a remote mysql database. I'm doing it from a vb.net 2005 application with a connector mysql.data.dll What's happening is, suppose if I try to connect thrice it connects twice and once throwing an exception that says A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. there's nothing wrong with the code, otherwise it would never have connected

The application I need to do, need to connect to a database, each time with different path and different name to explore the opened database. All the databases to be accessed are having the same structure, but with different location (in the pc itself), different name, and with different data inside (but the database tables and relations are the same. I understand openfiledialog.filename contains the address for the clicked file, but failed to pass this information to update the Database conection with the new addrerss.

I understand that I need to protect the connection string at time of the app being first run on the target machine. However I am concerned that for a period of time my connection string will be unencrypted. I am looking for advice in how to deploy my app with the connection string already encrypted or encrypted during installation. encrypting the connection string in a secure way?

I'm going to convert the Access database to a SQL Server Server Express data base so I downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto my pc with Windows 7. The installation went fine and I actually converted my Access database to SQL server. I did not change anything in my VB program.My problem: When I run my normal program with the Access database (no changes), I now get an error when it executes the following code:

View 5 RepliesI'm developing an app in vb.net (visual studio 2008). I have a Teradata back-end that will be supporting multiple users in a production environment. I need to use variables in the connection string as the user/pass will be changed every 3 months.
For the gist of the application:
In it's most basic form - I have a search form which works correctly - it pulls results into a listbox and the user then double clicks the list box which will then open a form that is bound via table adapter to the back-end table (Teradata). My connection string is fine everywhere in the application. My problem is using a modified connection string for the "fill" function of the table adapter once the form is opened.
I'm using the code below for the on-load event and keep getting an "invalid connection string" - again, the connection string works fine everywhere else in the app, and the variables etc... are working correctly.

I'm trying to debug because I am receiving the following error:
System.FormatException: Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32.
Normally, I would use SQL Server Profiler to view what is being sent to SQL Server, but my statement is not making it that far. Is there a way to determine what it is trying to convert? I am having problems determining which parameter is causing the error.

I have two datetimepickers on my form to set a start date and end date for a SQL server database query. I am passing these dates with parameters to my query from the .Value of the datetimepickers. When I run the program, the code returns an error of "Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string" I am not converting anything in my code. It is my understanding that the StartDatePicker.Value is already a datetime and does not require conversion.
