View 4 RepliesMy program runs under a limited account, and uses impersonation to access admin codeI also have a program in the same folder, that my program runs sometimes when it exitsBoth exe files are in the same folder in the "Program Files" folderIf I try to run the other file, I get a not found error.If I Raise the first program to admin (even though it should already have admin rights due to impersonate) it can run the second file.1. I don't want to raise to admin.2. I'm using the full path and file name to the file.3. That do i need so that dot net can find the file so that it runs.
View 2 RepliesI've found this code and it works in XP: [code] When I run the same code in Vista, I get an exception at the line "System. Environment.Get FolderPath(":See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. [code] I assume this has to do with the Vista UAC. Is there a better way to retrieve the "My Documents" path of either XP or Vista with one piece of code?

View 3 RepliesWithin the application, I need to have two levels of access: Standard User and Power User,for example.These two levels can have the same access level within Windows.It is not my intention to elevate to administratoWhat is needed, is a way to have two different groups of users.ne group will be able to run the application while a second group has access to additional features within the application but not within the windows environment
It is my hope that there will be two user account types: 1) Standard User and 2) some other user type such as Power User or something else that will distinguish it from Standard User

View 8 RepliesI am been working on an a small app that has a Forms.Webbrowser control that navigates to a Adobe Flash program. I have developed the app on Vista 32bit platform and have had no problems. I have sent the app to a couple of people to test out and one is using Vista 64bit and is running into a problem. I know the webbrowser control just uses the underlying base framework of IE. The problem on the 64 bit machine is when the site is navigated to it says that it needs to have Flash installed. When the user goes to Adobe's site it says they need to use a 32bit browser.
As stated on Adobe site here:[URL] the Flash player need to be in a 32 bit browser. What options do I have to be able fix this problem? Is there another control that I can use that would be the same in a 32bit platform and 64bit platform? Besides navigating to the Flash program, the browser also goes to standard web pages.
I have an aspx page that has two different user controls. I want to find user control A and be able to set properties, etc., from user control B.
I was thinking I could do something like this:
Dim CMFilters As Control = Me.Parent.FindControl("CMFilters")
...but that doesnt work to be able to set properties and call methods. I somehow need to get the user control and and declare it as that user control type.
How can I find the country that a user resides in?
I need to be able to create an IF statement to check if they are from the U.S or U.K, and perform one action, if not perform something else.
I am trying to have my program time out if the user lets it sit idle for an amount of time. Is there an easy way to find the last user input? I am using VB.NET.
View 4 RepliesI have some code that checks user authentication in a windows .VB .NET 2008 program.
We have 5 plants, each with its own HR plant department. Each plant has an AD group called "HR-Plant1", "HR-Plant2" ect. with its user/members.
I'm looking for some code that will take the windows user name, check to see if that user is in a certain plants group and then let him into that form. We would then dump the need for the user to login to authenticate.
Each form reads data from there local SQL DB and we already have setup that in the app.config.
In looking I couldn't seem to find any good code on passing in the group name into an AD query and verifying a single user is a member.
where can i find the user name and the password of msn in my pc
View 1 RepliesI want to know if its possible to retrieve from a given address (IP) the currently logged on user.
View 5 RepliesProbably I am asking something stupid. I have a datagridview in which I would like to be able to let the user change values of multiple columns by entering values (input 55.0) or additions(input +1.2)/decreases(input -1.2).How can I check what the exact input of the user is ?
At the moment I only use the input value (so for exampel 55.0) for which I use the DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value which I put in all selected cells, but I would like to receive the exact user input (so eg '+1.2')
I have a textbox with multiline enabled. I want to find out if the user is scrolling up or scrolling down on that text box. Is there a way to find it out?
View 1 RepliesI'm fairly new to vb.net and trying to get information for a project at work! Basically I can list all the applications running on a machine, I cannot however retrieve the details of the user running it! At the moment I'm using the following code after importing System.ServiceProcess and System.Diagnostics.Process:
Public Sub GetProcess()
Dim pr As Process
A = 0
For Each pr In Process.GetProcesses(System.Environment.MachineNam e)
ReDim Preserve arrProcess(A)
arrProcess(A) = New String() {pr.ProcessName.ToString, Process.GetCurrentProcess.PrivateMemorySize64}
A = A + 1
Next
End Sub
I have tried using pr.StartInfo.UserName but that just returns the username of the person logged onto the machine.
I'm trying to determine if a user has printed a report from the ReportViewer control, so I can write the date/time and username to a database table as part of an audit trail.When the user opens a report there is a print button, which calls up a standard print dialog box.However I can't find any way to determine whether the print button has been clicked or not. The reportviewer has a Print event, but this is no good as it's called before the print dialogue is displayed.
View 6 RepliesUsing the code below i will get all network interfaces wich are enabled and functional on the machine.
Private netIntrfc As NetworkInterface() = NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces()
For i As Integer = 0 To netIntrfc.Length - 1
If netIntrfc(i).OperationalStatus = OperationalStatus.Up Then

But my problem is how to get the default one, the one(ethernet adapter) through wich user is connected to internet?I need to change some settings of default(through wich user is connected to internet) adapter. settings i change through registry so i could sample add same settings for each network interface but that could cause problems and makes no point then?
EDITED:for now i have done like code below, so if this can help someone other...
Dim u As UdpClient = New UdpClient(System.Net.Dns.GetHostName, 1)
Dim localAddr As IPAddress = CType(u.Client.LocalEndPoint, IPEndPoint).Address
Private netIntrfc As NetworkInterface() = NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces()
[code]....
I am brand new to VB and been advised it might be the best thing to use for my problem, so here goes. I need to be able to scan a machine for all excel and access db files and list them by name and last accessed time. I would like to be able to do this in bulk so more than 1 machine at a time but thinking it my be best to do each machine seperately.
When I have the data I need it to be exported in a list to either excel or a text file or anything really. Als if possible how would I add the machine name to the list so I know which one i have scanned. I have been searching the forums and google but think I am getting more confussed as this is a whole new world for me.
I am using Active Directory to authenticate users for an intranet site. I would like to refine the users that are authenticated based on the group they are in in Active Directory. how to find what groups a user is in in ASP.NET 4.0 (VB)?
View 3 Replieshow to find out what Active Directory groups a user belongs to? I already have the code finding out their username but now I need to find out what group they belong to so I can assign the relevant photocopier code.
View 1 RepliesI am able to find out when is the last time a user log into a domain but I am also wondering if it is possible to find out what's the machine's name or IP.
In my Active Directory, I see there is an attribute called logonWorkstation but it seems not being used (no value stored)
Finished with my overlay program. Now I want to give users the ability to show their own images. [URL] That is an example of the program. Currently on the right I just have a drop down box with that image tied to a form. I want to have a blank form that allows people to select from files on their own computer to be displayed. Edit: Just realized the print screen didn't work (well, obviously it worked) but it didn't capture my overlay. Will try to take another. Let me know if you have any questions,
View 1 RepliesI have two text boxes on my form. text box 1 allows a user to type in a number (decimal) and text box 2 will display the smallest number typed in so far. The idea is to find the smallest number typed in by the user in text box 1, by using the Math.min method to compare each number typed in by the user to a variable that contains the smallest number to the point. Then replace the variable value with the smaller of the two numbers. To make it work for the first number. I have to initialize the variable to 99999. (no if else statements should be used).
View 3 RepliesI am currently working on an existing Windows Forms application (VB.net), and am busy reworking the exception handling mechanism.Currently, a lot of methods in the code are just surrounded with try/catch block that catches a generic exception and then calls a utility method that just shows the user a messagebox informing him of the error, and then logging it.So in a lot of cases no corrective action is taken and the exception is just logged. I know this probably isn't the best way but that's they way we're gonna have to do it for the near future.Anyway, I wanted to do this in a more generic way, so I hooked up Application.ThreadException and AppDomain.UnhandledException.
This seems to work well, except for one inconvenience. Whenever an error gets thrown from the .net runtime itself, or a 3rd party control, the stacktrace begins there where the exception is thrown in the framework-methods or 3rd party methods (obviously!)But it would be handier if I had an easy way of finding out exactly where these exceptions cross the boundary into my code. I would like an easy way of determining (in Application.ThreadException) where in my own code an exception originated. am aware this information is contained in the Exception.StackTrace property, but I would like an easy way to get to this specific information seeing as the stacktrace property is one huge string.
I need to do a query in which I can find all records in a table in which a user enters a search word. The word to be searched for will be a word in a column. If there's a table named solutions and in the table there is a field named description; i need to be able to pull up all records where for example the search word is 'printer' is in the description column. I don't have any code or database structure to show. I first need to know if this can be done. Can someone supply a code snippet example or tell me what SQL keywords will do this, or some pointer?
