I am working through my Visual Basic Book 2010 book and came across this Program example:Create 3 classes that inherit from a base class named Shape. The Shape class has an instance variable that is the name of the shape and also a CalcArea() function that must be overridden by each subclass. You will need to create the following 3 classes and use the formulas provided to calculate the areas.
Square Area = sideLength * sideLength
Circle Area = pi * radius * radius (use Math.Pi for the value of pi)
Triangle Area = * base * height
Each subclass should have a constructor that you use to set the name and the attributes required to calculate the area with. Each subclass should also override the CalcArea() function that is provided in the base class Shape. They will also need to implement the toString() method that will print out the shape name, any attributes (ex: sideLength), and the area.It also includes the Shape base class. You will need to add the 3 subclasses and add the appropriate code.

I'm making an application where a user draws a shape on a picture box( this will be saved on a bitmap image), then another user has to draw on that shape (=follow it ) . if the 2nd user goes too far from the line then an error message will appear.
for example( in case i couldn't clarify this well!)the 1st user draws a a vertical line, the 2nd user has to follow it, if-while drawing on it- he gets too far horizontally, there would be the error.
I'm currently thinking of comparing every point by the 2nd user to its equivalent in an array containing the points by the first user.

I am creating a vending machine that has moving items. My issue is making a certain picturebox move left/right to a specified point, then down to the " Item return" label. I'm using a timer to make the items move. I just cant figure out how to get this item to stop then go down then stop again.
After that I'll display a message telling the user the item is ready. How would i get the item I moved to go back to it's original place?

TI have a picturebox on top of another picturebox, like a smaller square perfectly in the middle of a lil bigger square picturebox, if you click on the smaller one inside the slightly bigger one, it checks to see what the color is of the picturebox "under. It", or the Picturebox thats bigger than it, and is like sourounding the smaller one in the middle of it... If when you click the small one, and the BG Color of the one that's under it is Black, change it to white, "my forms bg color is also black"....so the highlighted pictureboxes will seem more like they get highlighted, ya know...
Here's the code, after you've looked at those pictures, you can probably imagine what I want this code to do, and it's really Guiness really, because when I program in VB.NET, and before I go to YouTube to teach others how to do different things with VB.NET,I like to make sure that my program is very simple, but very effective, and does the job. When I click two pictureboxes, and when my app knows that I have clicked 2 of em, which I had no problem being able to do, I want the FIRST PictureBox To Switch With The Second One That Gets Clicked, It's CHESS....It Seems So Damn SImple, BUT I'M STUCK AGAIN, AND I WANT TO MAKE A CHESS BOARD IN VB.NET.

This is actually not really a question about vb, but about how to make a code.I'm making a RPG game and I want to make my character have "normal" movement. The problem is actually when I just hold down one of my movement keys (a, s, d, w) my character will jump out of the screen because it's going to fast. here is my movement sub:
Private Sub frmMain_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
'MOVEMENT'
[code].....

If Alien1.Location.X > 20 Then

I can't make it < because thats not logical, can't make it = becasue that doesn't work, can't make it > becasue then it will only bounce back once. Is there another variable I could use?

I'm working with WPF 4 and VB.net 2010. My project consists of full-screen windows with a 640x480 grid in the center.
In this project, I want to have various image boxes (which will have the item .png images in them), that the user can drag around and drop in various places on the grid.
In essence, I need to be able to make it possible for the item to be clicked and dragged around the grid, with the image box still visible and the same size as the user moves it around. It should never be able to leave the grid. I also need to be able to determine if the object is over another object, so when the mouse button is released, the dragged object is "dropped", and it triggers a particular block of code.

I have a VERY FAST comp/connection. I am looking for better code that runs smoothly. I'd also like if it fails to load something like error.jpg or something, not just staying blank. I don't know where to throw this in the code. I have only loaded 1 PictureBox on the interface, but in the end, I want to load 6-10 on one form at one time.
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Net
Imports System.Text

I'm trying to make my form nearly transparent when the mouse is not inside the form by changing the opacity.I'm having trouble because if the mouse is moved quickly, I can't get its position accurately. when the mouse is moved into a control, it's considered to have left the form. Is there an easy way to do this that I might be missing?

I have a button that when the user clicks slides a GroupBox out. I intend to start with the groupbox hidden and with a width of one and when the button is clicked to make the GroupBox visible and increase the width with a for.. to.. next counter.
However when I run the code all that happens when the button is clicked is after a short time the groupbox appears full size. So the program doesn't "refresh" the view of the GroupBox while the for..next statement is looping.
How can I make the GroupBox expand smoothly and visibly?

how to get VB to detect mouse movement, clicks and keyboard presses. I am creating a screensaver program that does not intergrate with the windows screensaver.
The reason I am doing this is because I am trying to invent a screensaver that people can use their custome pictures to see with password protection for their PC when the screensaver facility has been disabled on a domain.
