Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?

Dim frm As Form
For Each frm In Forms
Set frm = Nothing
Next frm
The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?

I have the following code to close a form which is a child. The problem is that when it closes, it closes the MDI parent too.
Private Sub frmTransaction_Closing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Closing
If ListView1.Items.Count >= 1 Then

Do anyone know if its possible to set the rootfolder of a FolderBrowserDialog box to only show my network places (xp) / Network (Vista). It's not available as a Environment.SpecialFolder in vb.net.
like the dialog you get when selecting map network drive -> Browse in windows explorer, see screenshot below.

I'm working a backup program and to determine the destination location, I give them the choice to type it in, or browse to it. Lately, I've been getting this error after they browse to it using the FolderBrowserDialog to set the location and the containing form is closed:
Managed Debugging Assistant 'DisconnectedContext' has detected a problem in 'C:UsersJFVDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projects[backup program]in[backup].exe'. Additional Information: Context 0x792960' is disconnected. Releasing the interfaces from the current context (context 0x7927f0).This may cause corruption or data loss. ensure that all contexts/apartments stay alive until the application is completely done with the RuntimeCallableWrappers that represent COM components that live inside them.

I have a program where the users generally use UNC paths. For a textbox where they type in a new path to work with, I'd like to be able to make it easy for them by having a button to fire off a FolderBrowserDialog so they can just navigate to it. Alas, I cannot seem to feed it a UNC path as a starting point.

On our intranet website, I need to give option to user to specify the location where they would like to save files. The files would be generated by a background process. Is there a way user can specify the location? I can not use FileUpload since that requires file to be specified. I notice that FolderBrowserDialog is for clientserver vb.net app and not asp.net.

I'm trying to find a way to reproduce the FolderBrowserDialog control functionality but not in a dialog. I'm been looking around for a good part of today for solutions but with very little progress. I found a few writeups on listing folders and their contents in a treeView but nothing about listing everything including "My Computer", "Desktop", etc. This seems like something that would've been built right in to Visual Studio. I'm working with VS 2005.

I was wondering if there is any way to create a FolderBrowserDialog IN the form, not a pop-up dialog.I was looking around and I found that I can do this by the extension provider.I can inherit the FolderBrowserDialog since it's not a control.[code]

I'm using VB.Net 2005 Pro and have created an .msi for my app using the built-in installation deployment project. When the installation is running however (or at the end of the process) I need it to run another .msi which I'll include in my distribution. How would I go about that? I've tried adding a custom dialog to the installer but that won't run another .msi.

i am having difficulty in lunching an application using vb the application i am trying to launch is a "MicroAppache" a distro of the Appache http server Background When the application is launched, it loads also some dll files and other dependencies. When i use this vb
Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:UsersvidhuDesktopwebserverinDebugMicApamapache.exe")
End Sub
to launch the exe. it doesnt load. instead it throws an error the it cannot find its dependencies. BUT When i place the vb app which launches the appache exe in the same directory as the appache exe. it works fine! It seems that the mapache.exe tries to find its depenancies in the directory where the launcher is and not in the directory he is in.Example If the launcher is located in:
C:launcher
and the Apache Server is located in
C:launcherapache
it will not work because it tries to find the other files it needs in
C:launch
If the launcher is located in:
C:launcherapache
and the Apache Server is also located in
C:launcherapache
it Will work
