Forms :: Load Event Only Fires One Time (Loosing Handle)

Jul 17, 2011

I have a form for which the form load event only fires one time. When the program starts. It will not fire again until I end the program and restart. I have tried .show and .showdialog, but it acts the same. I have read about form load events loosing the handles, but my code looks exactly like it should.

Here is the load event code
PrivateSub frmBilling_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) HandlesMyBase.Load
LoadClients()
LoadTherapists()
LoadCPT() EndSub

Here is the code that calles the form.
PrivateSub BillingToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BillingToolStripMenuItem.ClickfrmBilling.Show()
frmbilling.show()
EndSub

.net - Form Load Event Fires Twice Using Interop Forms Toolkit?

Sep 18, 2009

I've been following a codeproject article on using the interop forms toolkit (basically a way for developers to slowly upgrade their VB6 projects to .net by allowing .net components run in VB6)

[URL]

While the .NET form is working fine in all other testing projects and environments, I've found that the Form_load event is actually firing twice once it's in executing in the VB6 runtime.Not only annoying, its forcing my initialization code to execute twice (causing all kind of problems on the second run).

If (runBefore = True) Then

IDE :: Windows Forms Control Leave Event Fires More Than Once?

Jul 11, 2009

The leave event fires twice in this example. Tab order for the form controls is set to combobox1, button1, button3 Private Sub ComboBox1_Leave(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.Leave

[Code]...

if I enter 'A' in the combobox1 then combobox1 leave event will fire twice any other entry is Ok since the next control to get focus is button2 (in the normal tab order).It seems that if I try to skip the next control (based on the tab order set for the form), the leave event fires twice.

Cancel Fires But Other Code Also Fires When A Click Event Occurs?

Mar 9, 2012

A form has many buttons. One of those buttons contains code to update the TableAdapterManager. One of the many TextBox controls has code in a Validating event handler. There is code to make sure a US phone number is formatted properly.If the user tabs out of the TextBox the Validating code works perfectly and show a message to the user if the phone number is not properly formatted and the focus is place in the offending TextBox.If the user clicks on a button that has code to update the TableAdapterManager the Validating code fires but instead of focus remaining on the offending TextBox, the code in the button Click handler also fires.

I would like to stop the button code from firing.Here is the code for the Validating event of the TextBox:

Private Sub TextBoxPrimaryPhone_Validating(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles TextBoxPrimaryPhone.Validating
' Make sure the phone is formatted correctly.

[code]....

What additional coding to I need to include so focus remains on the TextBox?

Forms :: How To Handle Form Load

May 17, 2009

I had created a form(MDI Child) which have 3 to 4 dataset on it. They all are loaded from the database at the form load event and therefore takes too much time to load and show some part of form during that time. When it load completely it shows the whole form. Is there any way that user will see the complete form instead of some broken form.

VS 2010 Handle Event From Different Forms?

May 30, 2012

I have an event in a module, like this:

vb.net
Module Module1 Public Event Event1(Value as Boolean)End Module

I want to be able to handle this event from different forms. This is what I tried to do...

vb.net
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Event1Handler(Value As Boolean) Handles WindowsApplication1.Event1 End SubEnd Class

But I get a squiggly line under WindowsApplication1 that says Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. I tried to swap Module1 in, but same thing. I tried without anything in front of Event1, but still nothing.

VS 2008 Handle Click Event Of Component During Design-time

Feb 10, 2010

I have a UserControl with a Panel (Panel1). The UserControl has a property Items (type ControlCollection) that returns the Controls collection of Panel1.Via a custom CollectionEditor, I tell the designer that it should add my custom controls called Item (inheriting Control). For the sake of example, the Item control is just a control with a random background color:[code]The custom CollectionEditor creates new Item controls using the DesignerHost service (and its CreateComponent method), so that they appear as actual components in Panel1, selectable during design-time just like any other control.It might be a little hard to see (because the colored Items are docked to the top), but I have selected the red item, which can also be seen from the Properties list.

As you can see in the code, I attach a Click event handler to each item as it is added to Panel1. When clicked, a MessageBox shows the color of the item. Obviously this is just for the sake of this example, but the point is that I need to be able to click an item and something then needs to happen.This works fine during run-time. I can click each item, and the MessageBox shows.The problem is that it does not work (quite obviously) during design-time. When I click it during design-time, it is simply selected (as any other control) and of course does not register any Click (nor MouseClick) events.But, I need the Click event to fire even when in design-time! Clicking an item corresponds to selecting it, and when selected (even in design-time), some other panel (not shown in this example) should be brought to the front so it gets visible. Now, I have created lots of things very similar to this (clicking an item during design-time), but there has always been one major difference: those items were not actual controls on the form. Instead, they were drawn manually on to their parent (and they only looked like separate controls). Obviously there was no design-time support for those 'items' (as they weren't controls), but I could handle clicking them quite easily: by handling the MouseClick event of the parent, I can check the location and see if it falls within an item. If so, that item was 'clicked' (artificially).This time, the items are actual controls, and this method does not work (the parent does not receive a MouseClick event either).So, does anyone know of any way to do this? The only way I can think of right now (although I have no idea how to implement it) is to somehow 'listen' to changes in the designer selection.

DotNetNuke Module Page Load Fires Twice

Jul 11, 2011

My module's Page_Load event is firing twice for each "actual" load. On the initial load both loads' Page.IsPostBack property is false.I've renamed Page_Load to Module_Load to verify the name wasn't an issue. I've made sure the method isn't handling both Me.Load and MyBase.Load, which has been the case in the past.The only thing I'm doing out of the ordinary is that my module is inheriting from an intermediate base class. Could this be the culprit? [code]I had an Image without an ImageUrl. Presumably this is set by my CollapsiblePanelExtender but rendered with a blank src.

Is there a way to make this event wait to fire until after the list is populated? Ive ran into this problem before with datetimepickers, but I was able to offset it with a boolean, but this combobox is calling the textchanged event everytime it adds an item to the list.

Forms :: VB App Terminates Before It Hits The Load Event

Mar 1, 2010

I have a simple vb.net app written using MS Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 and .NET framework version 3.5. This app simply queries a MySQL table into a dataset, makes a csv file from that data and then uses Oracle SQL*LDR to load a local Oracle table. Nice and simple.

This app runs fine on just about any computer or workstation I have tested it on with no issues but when I move it to the workstation it will live on...it shuts down just before it hits the load event. I have tried to capture any errors but so far there do not seem to be any errors generated at any point...it simply terminates with no explanation.

I even went so far as to recreate the project from scratch and still got the same result. this phenomenon only seems to occur on the very pc I am expected to deploy to.

the only thing I know for sure is that it is getting at least as far as the declaration section of the form. Once it has dimmed all objects/variables/etc..it seems to just shut down.

Running Tasks On Forms Load Event

Sep 7, 2009

I have two forms. On form one, I have a serious of check boxes and in form two I have functions relating to those checkboxes. When the second form loads, I check the Checked State of the Check Boxes, and run the appropriate functions. This is working just fine. The problem I have, is that the second form doesn't show until the functions that have been selected have completed. It would be ideal if the form would load and then run the functions.

I don't think that I could have everything run on startup, but hopefully there is another method. I know I could load the second form and then just run the code in the previous form, but this is less than ideal, because I can't show the second form as .ShowDialog and I want to be able to split up the code into the other form so that it's not so crowded and easier to read on the first one.

Event In The DS That Fires When Data Changes?

Oct 13, 2010

I read data into a DS from an XML file. The user has the ability to "Save" or "Save As" at any time. They can also "Open" an existing file or create a "New" one. (brilliant, don't you think?)

I need to make sure I ask the user if they want to save their existing data (i.e. rewrite the XML file) if the DS has changed from the XML load or from the last time they Saved. On Open, New or exit I have been checking the HasChanges function on the DS. This doesn't work the way that I need. I use AcceptChanges throughout the program to commit values to the DS. This appears to kill the HasChanges even though the DS is now different than the XML file.

Is there an event in the DS that fires when data changes? If so, I believe I can set a flag that can be checked later. If not, is there any other way to track that a DS has changed after the initial XML load? Would reloading the XML into a cloned DS and comparing the two work? Seems like a waste of "time", especially with large XML files, but if it's the only way.

Forms :: Form1 Load Event - Drawings Appear For An Instant And Then Dissappear?

Mar 3, 2010

I am trying to develope a small graphics application in VB.NET. My startup form has a picture box with a background image loaded from a file. The user can click spots on the picture box and this draws some circles on it. On exit the coordinates for these spots are saved to a file.In my form load procedure I load the background image, the coordinates for the graphics(saved from the last time the program was run), and then call the drawing procedure.

The drawings appear for an instant and then dissappear. If you click the picture box the graphics re-appear.The form works fine once you do this.I guess the picture box is refreshed by the form load event and this is causing the drawings to be wiped.(I stalled the call to the drawing procedure by using a timer and this works but I am sure there is a proper way of fixing this)Is there a way of ensuring a form is fully loaded or making sure the drawing procedure occurs only when the form is fully loaded?

Event That Fires Only When User Moves The Splitter?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a VB .NET form with a splitter control on it, and I want to save its position between program runs. I am currently handling the SplitterMoved event and storing the SplitterDistance. Then on program startup, I set the SplitterDistance to the saved value.

However, sometimes the program resizes the splitter, raising the SplitterMoved event and overwriting my saved distance. I have several splitters over multiple tabs in a tab control, and any time the user goes to a new tab for the first time, the SplitterMoved event fires.Is there an event I can use that will only fire when the user moves the splitter, and not when the program moves the splitter? I tried MouseUp, but when that event fires, the new SplitterDistance is not yet set.

Modify .net's BackgroundWorker Class So That It Fires A Custom Event Upon Method Completion?

Nov 16, 2011

I have a BackgroundWorker in a vb.net program that is doing a lengthy data import routine. I want to modify its RunWorkerAsync method so that it fires a custom event on completion of the method. (So that a method in an automated process can respond to the event and resume its work). In a sense I want to 'extend' the RunWorkerAsync method to add an extra line of code--but I can't 'see' the code in the method (to just add the line raising the event) because BackgroundWorker is an MSDN class from Microsoft.The only solution that I can think of is to 'wrap' the background worker class in a wrapper that calls the .RunWorkerAsync method and then raises the event.

Public sub wrapperMethod()
myBackgroundWorker.RunWorkerAsync()
raise customEvent
end sub

Is there a design pattern that I might use? An easy way to address this with the .net language?

PS: Unfortunately, I'm automating some clanking legacy software and backgroundworker is used in many locations, so wrapping the backgroundworker will be a bit of work and may open bugs.
