May 18, 2010I'm trying to create a simple Data Grid that will automatically save changes. So far I have a data grid connected to a MS Access 2007 Database that reads the data. I can create new fields in the Data Grid, but I need to program to save the data automatically to the database on update (or on close).

May 7, 2012Can a data grid in another open form be refreshed by calling a sub routine? This app has a form with 2 data grids. When the user double click on one of the grids another form is opened that shows data details. After the user changes the details the user clicks a save button. We have placed this code in the Closing event of the the details form.

When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.

Jan 14, 2010This is a VB .NET application where we are showing the output of a SQL statement in a Datagrid view. using .NET 2005.We need to get the seperators of the headers on the grid control to be the same colors as the GridColor on the form. See the picture below:We've tried looking through all of the properties of the DataGridView control, and found some interesting things that looked promising such as the DataGridViewAdvancedHeaderStyle, and DataGridViewHeaderBorderStyle, but none of it seems to allow you to change the colors on it.Does anyone know how to do this without remaking the entire thing with a GDI+ control?

Oct 22, 2010I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
Can't Open File Using Access 7 Program
Jun 4, 2010I am trying to write a section of Access VB code that opens the Windows dialog box and allows my user to select and open a file to verify it is the correct one. (Then I use the file path and name to copy, rename and move the file). I have been trying to use the OpenFileName structure and have succeeded in capturing the file path and name my user selected... My main problem in all of this is getting the file to actually open so the user can verify it before I commit the actions noted. This probably can be done as a part of the OpenFileName dialog if I understood it better, but but isn't there also a trivial way to open a file if you have the path and name?

Then I 've tried:

and also

but that doesn't work.
