I have a question about locating a particular object in a generic list. I have 2 lists, one contains a list of every song in a library and the other contains only copies of some the those elements that are added to a playlist. How would I locate and change a value of an particular item in a list by comparing one of their variables such as name? Or find it's index in the masterlist.

What I am doing is iterating through all the groups that belong to the top group (Generic reports). Then I take advantage of the GroupPrincipal.GetMembers(True) which will recurse through a given group name. I test to see if the user exits under that group and if true I put the group name in an arraylist.
I use the for each principal in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers to loop through each returned user to see if they exist.
Is there a way to put all the returned users Principal.Name from a given group in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers into an ArrayList? This would allow me to to use Arraylist1.IndexOf to search for user. Which would be much faster then iterating through a returned list using the for each construct.

I am relatively new to C# and winforms, although I have been using Java for years, so forgive me if im asking something relatively straightforward!I have a DataGridView, it needs to update regularly so I wish to provide a Collection of objects as its DataSource and NOT a database table.So far I have a List<MyObject> which will be constantly updated via a BackgroundWorker thread. I want my DataGridView to update when a change has been made to the List i.e. if the objects are resorted, added to or deleted from etc.Currently my DataGridView only displays the first object I add to the List, if I add more the DataGridView doesn't update to display the new objects added.This is a basic overview of how im coding it:
private List<MyObject> myList= new List<MyObject>();
myDataGridView.DataSource = myList;
Then my BackgroundWorker thread updates the list, e.g.

Then skips straight to the Else without performing the two lines in between, regardless of whether the item was checked or not checked. It doesn't crash, doesn't throw any errors, so I am assuming I coded this wrong somehow.
I have found a list of words [URL] that I saved as a txt. I want to be able to cycle through it with my program I am making. I have a string and I want it to change everytime that timer3 is finished, timer1 will use it again.
An example:

View 6 RepliesIm building an application which has severals objects that are moving on a map.I think the calculation of this movement should be done using a BackGroundWorker thread. However the actual position of all the objects should be visualized on the MainForm after each calculation-cycle.The calculation should be done continously in the BackGroundWorker-thread (unless stopped by the GUI).So far I initialize all the objects within the GUI-thread.Is it possible to do such calculations on the objects using the BackGroundWorker-thread although they are "owned" by the GUI-thread?Or do I have to "hand-over" all the objects to the the BackGroundWorker-thread, calculte one cycle and then "hand-over" the objects back to the GUI?

myClassObjects(1000) as myClass
My question is- can I declare the array as an arraylist so I can sort and count objects in the array(list) quicker and easier and are there any drawbacks to taking this approach?

I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem,however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy.So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains?This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line.This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.

The number of items and their occurences will vary with each query. would simply like to count the occurences of each specific ID in the list. How do I do that?? The only count function I know of (.count() ) is for a count on the entire list. I've also I've been reading on how to loop through the list items but I don't understand how I can do that if I don't know how many specific ID's there will be from each query
