View 2 RepliesI am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

View 9 RepliesI'm trying to run a command line argument through VB.NET using the Shell() command.I'm trying to use this piece of code:
FOR /R %I in (*.pdf) DO @pdf2swf.exe "%~fI" -o "%~dpI%~nI.swf" -f -T 9
-t -G
Using this:
Shell("FOR /R %I in (*.pdf) DO @pdf2swf.exe "%~fI" -o "%~dpI%~nI.swf" -f -T 9
-t -G ")
However, the interpreter is giving me this error:
Character is not valid. (BC30037)
For the %~ part.I also tried created a string and passing the argument to the Shell() command by using Shell(StringName) but I still get the same error in the string.
I am attempting to open a cmd.exe process with the 8 arguments listed At this point all this does is open a command window in the correct directory
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

F:Python26>
What I want to send to the command window is:
F:Python26> python.exe globalmaptiles_modified.py 17 32.123365 -95.938098 32.266846 -95.789143 F:Python26process_test.txt
[Code].....
I have even tried this with a design Process from the toolbar and set the File, working directory and start info arguments and I get the exact same results. I am not understanding the Argments function or I am doing something wrong and not sending them correctly.
I can connect when I go into command prompt manually and type: rasdial one username password
This will work. It will dial and connect.
Now when I try doing this programmatically it will not work. It doesn't seem to be passing the arguments I've specified:

My script is not working and wethever I try I can mak it work

db = db.Replace("", "\")

I am trying to pass arguments to my wintv.exe program using the process.start command but I am getting errors...Here is one example that starts Wintv but the program does not begin to record and Wintv throws up a bunch of errors and quits.

I am running an exe program from VB (Visual Studio 2005). This exe program accepts 3 parameters.I am passing the first parameter as a string and the next 2 as parameters from the Sub. However, the exe program treats all of them as string. I tried to use "&" and "+" between arguments and got the same results.[code]...
View 4 RepliesI'm running some command line programs through my app and I have to pass some parameters to the command line app.I'm launching the command line with Start.Process and using StartInfo.Arguments = "".The problem is that some of the parameters require me to pass quotes and when I put quotes into the compiler, it doesn't register it in the way I want it to.
View 3 RepliesI need to pass a file's name as an argument and a switch to the executable I'm using.I'm doing it like this:
vb.net
proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z ""C: est.txt"""
I'll know where the files are that I need to grab, but I won't always know the exact names. So, I thought I could grab a collection of the files, store them in a variable, and then pass them as an argument.I tested it with one file like this:
vb.net
Dim File As New System.IO.FileInfo("C:...Desktop est.txt") Dim proc As New Process proc.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "..." proc.StartInfo.FileName = "....exe" proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z" & File & "additional arugments" proc.Start() proc.WaitForExit()
But, as you all may already know, I can't use the & operator with a string and FileInfo.Would I have to then convert the FileInfo to a string first and then pass it through?
I have a single instance database app that emails out notifications. I would like to add a link in the emails that when clicked would open up the app and go to the section of the program that its supposed to go to. I implemented my own URL protocol so that links starting with my codewords get passed to my EXE. So far so good. I then parse the URL and pull the keyword and identifier out to open that section of the program. So if a user clicks a link like this:
MyApp:LoadCompany?ID=323
My application will start, it will grab the arguments (LoadCompany?ID=323), pass this to my load company routine and then load up company ID 323. Works great.
Now the issue is if the program is already open I still want the links to work but since it's a single instance app it just closes the second app. How can I add something ot the app to watch for this or receive a message from the second app? I know I will need to check status of what I'm doing and make sure things are saved, check security, etc but I can get all that done easily enough. I've found some examples online but none really did what I wanted them to.
I am almost sure this isn't possible but it's worth an ask... We have a .NET DLL that is being called from our VB6 application. The VB6 app runs in a 32 bit process so the DLL runs in the same process (it's compiled as any cpu) Therefore when I do my ODBC Database access in the DLL is will only use a 32 bit driver, as this is what it thinks it needs (for the record the DB is Pervasive PSQL)
My problem arises when the application runs on a 64 bit machine (when only the 64 bit ODBC driver is installed) as it can't find a suitable driver to use. So is there a way to force the .NET DLL to run in a 64 bit process (compiling as x64 doesn't work because register for COM Interop is not allowed) This isn't necessarily an issue at this point in time because I can install the 32 bit driver, but at some point in the future I can imagine that 32 bit driver may not be available so I will be up the proverbial creek.
how to run a process as a child process?
I'm using this code to launch a process:
Dim appdirect As String = Application.ExecutablePath
appdirect = appdirect.Replace("SIS.EXE", "")
appdirect = appdirect.Replace("SIS.exe", "")
[Code]....
It runs the process but I need it to run as a child process of SIS.exe.

But it starts & sops immediately. When I try to start it manually I get the following message:"Welcome service on local computer started & stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".how to keep my service running so that I can test whether its doing what it should do..!!

I hope the title gives a good description, i have read the forum posting tips at the top. Ive just joined the community and nice to meet you all. Anyways, I am trying to create a vb.net application for which it will check if a process is running in task manager, and if this process or processes are running to end a different process. Let me give you an example,
If processA, ProcessB is running then END ProcessC. If however ProcessA, and ProcessB are not running then ProcessC can stay active. I have started the project and am able to kill the processes etc. This is shown below.

Im working on a small virus removal application, and i have a piece of code to check if a process is running,although, it doesn't seem to work.The code is as follows:
ListView2.Items.Add(TimeOfDay + " - Starting Process Scanner")
Dim Vir As Process() = Process.GetProcesses
Dim a As Integer
For a = 0 To Vir.Length - 1
Debug.WriteLine(Vir(a).ProcessName)
[Code]...
I'm not sure how I would use Process.GetProcessesByName()to check if a process is running, and if it isn't start it, using VB.NET?I know how to start a process using Process.Start().

View 10 RepliesI need to create a program that checks to see if a certain process is running, but I need to check it at a predetermined interval, such as every 10 seconds. I also need it to relaunch the program if it disappears/crashes. I have no idea where to start, I'm assuming I'd have to use a timer and write a method that checks for this process and then another method to simply launch it.
View 3 RepliesI have written a application that searches the users computer for all files within a specified folder.Sometimes the number of files can be quite large. I would like the user to able to interrupt (end) this process.My code is handled by a button click in a VB win form.[code]I have tried various MsgBoxes that warn the user but I think a Esc Key or a Cancel button would be better.

View 2 RepliesI am waiting for another process to finish:
Process.GetProcessById(processID).WaitForExit()
But sometimes it already ended before I even get to this line of code, so it throws an exception that the process is not running. I don't want to catch this using a try catch, but using a if statement. How can I do this?
If Process.GetProcessByID(processID).IsRunning = true then

This is the command line I want to use inside my VB.NET program. Look for the running process "mpc-hc.exe" and get the commandline of the running processwmic process where name='mpc-hc.exe' get CommandLineI want to retrieve the output from that command into a string. I know that it could be done natively in a VB.NET program and I have looked at how it was done. However, I cannot get the code to perform what it did in the commandline I have above.
View 1 RepliesI'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. How can I solve this?
The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.

I need to check if a certain process is NOT running. So until now i've been using a loop and if it doesn't find the process then it alerts me (with MsgBox) however now i realized that the for each loops looks on each process and if that process isn't the one im looking for its gonna give me an alert, that it was not running even when the next process could be the one i need to know about.
