I'm trying to store a set of objects and I need to be able to access them in constant time based on a particular property of the objects. I was hoping to do this by adding the objects to a HashMap and using the property that I want to index by as the key. Is there a HashMap object in VB like in Java, or should I use something else?
View 1 RepliesMy brain is fried at the moment, so here's the scenario.I have a form that adds a member to my VB.NET application.When I press submit I add their details: name and number as well as what products they want (internet and phone). Internet and Phone are their own class as is member.
I want to add that they HAVE whichever they have chosen and with the member store it.

As what happens is once the member is created (stored) I will go to input how much they have used, and then store that. But to do so I will need access to the internet and phone classes, which are associated with said member.
I need to Store Objects with Key like:

These font types come from an external library, the real type is DocumentFont, I prefer not to store just values and recreate the font object later, so I need to store the object, and i want to be able to call Contains() later without looping. like for example Dictionary (of T Key, T Value), is this the best option? Also, to be able to call Contains(), i will have to overload function Contains() using an Interface or this is already built-in in some Collections / Dictionaries when using a String as Key?

I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

i know that integer is a variable to store whole numbers and that a string is a varialbe used to store any text, but what variable type would you use to store a number that has decimals?
View 7 Replieslong story short, I have created a ListView type control, using UserControls for the parent control and the ListViewItems. Most the of the control is written and works fine, right up to the point where I tried to replicate the 'Control.SelectedItems(0).Index' property and the 'SelectedIndexChanged' event.
Each child object knows its index value, and could pass this value via the SelectedIndexChanged event (assuming this is how it works in a normal ListView control -- user clicks on an item, and that item fires an event updating the selected index value in the parent object).
How does the child object raise an event in the parent object? I have a feeling this could be done with Delegates, but I'm still learning about their usage.

In one thread I'll be adding items to List1(Of Object1), and processing them, and adding the results to List2(Of Object2), however I need to be able from other threads to look at the list and say only give me the items where Integer = (my thread ID), is this possible? What I am trying to do is to check if a value matches one of two numbers (and easily be able to add to the numbers to compare to). Rather than doing a longer-winded way such as: [Code] I have found that this only works when SectionID is 2 or PageID is 8. If SectionID is 3 or PageID is 12 then it doesn't work. Why is this and what can I do to try to get around the problem?

I've got a large codebase which I'd like to expose to plugin authors to allow them to use VB.Net Express to code plugins for a server app, which is not available to them. My problem is that even with obfuscation, I'd rather not distribute the complete app and/or dlls, as even with obfuscation peeling apart a .NET assembly and puzzling out code is relatively easy to do. I'm interested in this because the licensor I obtain the code from requires me to protect IP and assets and while distributing .NET apps opens up the app to disassembly, keeping the server app private and allowing users to utilize a skeleton dll to code against is a happy medium.
What I'm looking for is some way or a utility to go through my server app source code and create a codeless version of the app which only contains method and property signatures.The intent is to provide a stub .NET dll for them to add as a reference and code against as if they were directly interacting with the server, without actually providing the server code to them, compiled or not. I can of course do this by hand but there are over 90 classes and hundreds of thousands of lines of code I'd rather not spend a week hand tweaking. Also, this presents a problem whenever new methods or code are added to the project. Finally, two separate projects is an even worse scenario.Because people will post suggestions that have little or nothing to do with the question, here's a short, clear example.
