View 2 RepliesI'm looking for a solution for making the program response to the enter/return key inside a textbox. After browsing the forum I end up with this
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal Keyasii As Integer)
If Keyasii = 13 Then
Label1.Text = TextBox1.Text
End If
End Sub
As this seems to be the answer to the problem, I still can't make it work. I just get a 'beep' and nothing happens.
how do i make sure -1 is returned if an error occored?
Public Function ExcecuteNonQry(ByVal sql As String, Optional ByVal connectionString As String = "")
Dim returnVal As Integer = -1

I have a (begginner) question on VB.NET. Is this good code (I mean, is it "bullet proof")?. It seems to work, but I understand the Return is executed AFTER the Finally. So how does it call a method on an allready disposed of object?

View 1 RepliesWe have a multi-line control that we are attempting to prevent the Enter/Return key from being used to create a new line.Strangely enough, "AcceptsReturn" as False does not prevent this.So we added the following:
Private Sub txtAddr_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtAddr.KeyPress
If e.KeyChar = Microsoft.VisualBasic.ChrW(13) Then
e.Handled = True
End If
End Sub
This works fine, however one of the QA people discovered hitting Control + Enter still puts in a newline.How would we prevent this?And why does AcceptsReturn being False not work as it appears it should? What is the intended purpose of it?
In vb.net datagridview the default Enter/Return key behavior is to move to the next row is there a quick and easy way to avoid that.
View 3 RepliesDoes anyone know how I can setup visual studio to use the enter key to complete intellisense, but without moving the cursor to the next line? I use multiple other IDE's that work in this fashion, and VS is really throwing off my rythym with this.
View 4 RepliesI've seen this type of line in many post on here..I been rolling this over in my head and i think that this line or something close to it is a bad idea. For index As Integer = ListView1.Items.Count -1 the above line assumes that on the last line the person has hit the enter button which is VBCrLf(carriage return and Line Feed) in which case the above line would be ok..however if the last line does not contain a CrLf then you in effect are skipping the last line.

View 1 RepliesI have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?
Edit:
Try
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
Exception is underlined and when I hover on it, it says: "Catch cannot catch type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Exception' because it is not in 'System.Exception' or a class that inherits from 'System.Exception'". This is affecting all my other code which I'd like to put into a Try/Catch block.
The following code causes a "Warning" that Variable is used before value assigned.How do I restructure this Try/catch to eliminate error on the myreader.close command in the Catch part? Code appears to work fine but I dont like Warnings. [code]

View 3 RepliesI need to catch log4net exceptions (its own exceptions not app exceptions logged by it). I wish there's a way of doing it this way: [code] I have this code implemented and there's no errors in compilation but i force log4net to have an error (pointing to a non existing database in the config file) and nothing is threw.I've tried the listener aproach: [code] and it's writing the errors to log4net.txt, the forced ones i mean.This last aproach has a couple of drawbacks: it won't append every error to the file, if the error is the same it doesn't write it, i can't get the listener to write every error to that file, only one (I don't know how to fully configure the trace listener, it might be that). Thus it won't append the date and hour to every line wich is a necesity for me. Finally i can't give structure to it (xml). Even if the listener work i need to use the try/catch aproach, since i'm using ExceptionHandling from Enterprise library to log the errors in my app.

I am working on my application that I have two forms to work with, as the one are for search and replace text and the other form are the normal form. However, I want to know how I can use the sendkeys on the form1 when I highlight for each line of the text in the textbox on form1 to press the enter key and start firing for each line of the highlighted text?And how I can do the sendkeys to the form1 when I open the search and replace dialog to input the search text in the textbox then click the button to sendkeys on my form1 and firing for each line of the highlighted text? im struggling to get my form to work properly, when the user enter the details into the textbox and they press enter i want a button to activate. Ive tried

I have a validation class that I use to validate data entered into textboxes on my form. If the data entered does not pass the validity test then the function does the following: [Code] All that works like a charm BUT What triggers the validation routine is when the user either presses the Enter Key OR the Tab Key. If the data is validated the next textbox, (textbox2) is populated with the same data as textbox1 and given the focus then waits for the user to enter new data or press enter which the goes through the validation routine for that textbox.
My problem is way back at the first textbox when the user enters invalid data. As I mentioned above the validation routine populates the textbox with valid default data BUT It also seems to somehow include the enter key because once the default data has been entered by the validation routine it then re-evaluates the data as though the user had pressed enter. Because the data is now valid it moves to the next textbox and never lets the user enter his/her own data.
I have a USERFORM with several CHECKBOXs and one TEXTBOX. When the user clicks a checkbox the textbox appears next to it for the user to enter dollar amounts.I am trying to use the ENTER KEY from the TEXTBOX to set the TEXTBOX.VISABLE to FALSE. But, I cannot get it working. I have tried to use KeyPress, KeyDown, KeyUp and Exit to no avail. When I check for the KeyAscii or KeyCode it is blank. I anly see the numbers that were entered in the TEXTBOX.Do you know how I can check for the enter key from within the TEXTBOX?
View 3 Replieshere is my problem, I'm using a textbox to enter only letters, no number, so i'm using a loop with a decision structure to tell me that the input data is wrong and prompt to input the data again but when I enter the correct data in the input box, vb2010 display this error "Conversion from string to type 'Double' is not valid.", this problem is making me crazy.
