I'm relatively new to Visual Basic 2008 programming. I've made my web browser, but i don't know how to make it so i can run it outside of the debugging menu. Anyone lend a hand?
View 5 RepliesI'm using VS2008, targetting framework 3.5..Every time I reboot the PC, I open up Visual Studio, play with my code a bit, then hit F5 to debug it. I play around with my code some more, then debug again, and end up with the following problems:[code]The previous ten items in the error list are all Warnings, and they've all been in the project for forever, so I don't think they are the issue, here.What is the issue is that Visual Studio refuses delete/copy the XML file, and so will not run. I have to shut down the IDE to fix the issue.
View 11 RepliesI have created a Form, added a MenuStrip to it and inserted the standard Items. My question is that I know some of the options won't work like 'Save' and 'Save As' but how do you make ones like 'Open' 'Exit' 'Undo' and Redo' work when start debugging?
View 9 RepliesI've built a couple of Apps successfully, but having published them to a Network Folder, Non-Admin Users can't install them themselves because the Install attempts to create an Entry in the Start Menu. There may be other Security issues (I need 4 of the permissions included if I publish it as a Partial Trust Applications, which I think affect this) after this point that I'm not aware of, but yeah, it fails when trying to create a Start Menu item -
+ Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsJameOStart MenuProgramsMynas' is denied.
I think excluding the right is just part of the SOE, but is there some way I can create this and have it NOT create a Start Menu item, haven't been able to find any?
I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)

How do I make a menu item on a menu strip link to another windows form (like a menu item that links to an about page already created in the project). I know that every coder knows how to do this, but i've read most of the instructions in the world for Visual Basic coding, but can't find ANYTHING I know coding fairly well, so I can modify it, but I can't create it my self.
View 4 RepliesI have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.

I have a blank form and when the use right clicks on the form, they get a context menu with any number of names in the menu. This changes depending on the situation. I can get the context menu to add/remove the list of names but when I click on one of the choices and it goes to my routine (from addhandler) I can't find the property that tells me what they clicked on...

my vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder.Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?

View 2 RepliesI recently installed WSP Builder on a machine with Visual Studio 2008 already installed.Quite expectedly, the WSP Builder sub-menu appeared (and still appears) under the Visual Studio 2008 Tools menu.Having then installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional and installed WSP Builder a second time, I can not seem to find the WSP Builder sub-menu anywhere under any of the Visual Studio 2010 menus.Can anyone throw some light on this "missing menu" problem?
