I have some dialogs in one resource file that I want to copy into another project. I opened the .rc file in the IDE and I can right-click on the dialog I want and I can choose the copy command. But when I right-click in the resource view, whether on the .RC entry or the "Dialog" entry below it, the paste command is disabled. Nor does drag&drop work.
Can you not copy files from your resources? [code] I don't get any errors but I do get an exception saying it couldn't find the file. I want to do this other than supplying the directory that it is located on on my computer because I'm not sure it it will work on other peoples computers if i have the path of the file set as "C:UsersMike.Mike-PCDocumentsVisual Studio 2010ProjectsJava IDEJava IDEResourcesCompiler.bat".
I want to copy my Startup.wav file from the programs resources, but i don't know how to do it.I have tried: system.IO.File.Copy(My.resources.Startup, "C:windowsmediaStartup.wav", true) But it doesn't work. I've spent some time searching the web, but found no usefull awnsers to my problem. Maybe i'm not searching for the right things..
Lets assume that I code a DLL in .Net and I've added some items to the project (For example a picture, or an XML file that contains some kind of configuration for the DLL), and I set the "Copy to output directory" to be "Copy Always".
Now, what I wanted is that if I give my compiled DLL with the bunch of files that were added as items to it, then if someone ads a reference to the DLL in his project then on compile it will copy all files and not just the DLL.
Is it even possible (Some kind of configuration on Visual Studio maybe)?
Is it possible to copy a file from the application's resources to a directory? If so, I want the file "system.dat", that i added to the resources to be copied to lets say: My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory + "system.dat" when i press button1. How do I do that?
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile( My.Resources.system, My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory + "system.dat") But it gave an error "Value of type '1-dimensional array of Byte' cannot be converted to 'String'."
I have a file (only 280kb) added to My.Resources I want to copy this from My.Resources to, lets say, Application.StartupPath When i try:
System.IO.File.Copy(My.Resources.File, Application.StartupPath & "file.ext")but then i get this error:Value of type '1-dimensional array of Byte' cannot be converted to 'String'How can i do this?
Is it possible to copy files from my resources to the hard drive? In other words, I have a few files located in My.Resources & I would like to copy them as needed to the users HD.
I'm trying to copy/move (whichever works in the end) a picture from my resources in my program, to the startup path.
However, when i try it, it tells me that the file could not be found.
System.IO.File.Copy(My.Resources.Image, PATH, False)That will turn up with an error telling me that the value of type Bitmap cannot be converted to string. So i figured i would try to put a .ToString behind it, and then i'll get the File Not Found error.
I am making a VB.NET application linked to a database. when you press the button 'generate' it is writes (fairly simple) webpages to a folder in your destkop. what I tried was adding a build-in uploader to my website, but my host didn't supported that. ok, not that big of a deal, and completely out of context but now let's get to the core of my problem;
I wanted to have an image in the resources (none made yet) and have it copied out the resources and placed along with the webpages (to use it as background image). I have tried a lot (clearly not everything or it would work) but I just don't manage to solve this. the problem is I need to be able to do this, since I want to have my .accdb in the resources to, so that it copies out when used an writes (an updated version) back to the resources and deletes the external file. but I never seem to manage to do this. I tried to read, write and other things it with IO and everything, just getting the message that it cannot be read. but I never seem to find how to copy/move it outside the program. the code I am using now looks like this:
Imports System.Reflection Imports System.IO 'this is for the writing of the .HTML files Imports System Public Class webGenerator
I've been looking at multithreading because I have been trying to make my own dialog box and it seems it might be the only solution. When I used dialog.show, there was no way to cancel the copying operation without the program finishing the current file it was copying (which I found to be annoying), and if I used dialog.showdialog, the program wouldn't continue executing code until I closed the dialog box. So I defined the thread and gave it a sub procedure to execute. But it turns out I can't directly access the main form's controls now. I read all about delegates and invoking and haven't come up with an answer to simply GET a value.
Here's the code in question: Private Sub TransferFiles() For FileCount As Integer = 0 To Me.ListBox1.Items.Count - 1 Dim NewName As String = Me.ListBox1.Items.Item(FileCount).Tag Next End Sub
In Access or Excel, for instance, if I have a file named MyFile I can create an entirely new copy of it by going to File --Save As--; and pronto I have another File named ,say, MyFile2 while retaining my original file - MyFile - in its entirety. My question is: can I do same in VB? If I have a Solution named, MySolution, can I use the Save As dialog to create an entirely new copy of it while retaining the original Solution? If yes, how and if no, how do I do it?
I have a font in my programm resources that I wanna copy on form load to windows fonts I tried (my.computer.filesystem.filecopy) but i get this error (cant convert binary to string)
When we copy/cut and paste a file a dialog box opens showing the process of coping and pasting files it includes only cancel button, but I want to add "pause" & "resume" button also there....
To do this how should I write a program, on what I should write the program. i am not getting the ground to dig it up..
I have a font FREE3OF9. (BARCODE FONT).I want when user run my program, the Font automatic install on their machine. So i want to copy that font to C disk of user :
Dim binWriter = New IO.BinaryWriter(IO.File.Create("C:WINDOWSFontsFREE3OF9.TTF")) binWriter.Write(My.Resources.FRE3O) binWriter.Close()

I have a simple desktop application that uses a .NET setup project (.msi file) to perform the installation. On the first installation, everything proceeds in a timely fashion with good feedback for the user. The problem occurs when the user is installing the latest version of the application over an old version on their machine. There is an unacceptably long delay of about 60 to 180 seconds from the time the installer's 'Welcome' dialog [It's not the Welcome dialog, I've removed that from the Start section of the setup project and replaced it with a CheckBox dialog to ask if the user wants a shortcut on the desktop] disappears until the 'Progress' dialog appears. The user sees minute(s) of blank screen and thinks the install has stopped or failed.
In the setup project properties, I've got the 'DetectNewerInstalledVersion' and 'RemovePreviousVersions' properties set to true. So, I believe that while nothing appears to be happening, the installer is actually removing the old version. The 'Progress' dialog does not appear until the new version begins installation.I've been trying to either:
a) Get the 'Progress' dialog to display immediately after the 'Install Icon' dialog disappears
b) Show another dialog while the Uninstall is running to let the user know that the setup is still running and everything is OK.
I have been unsuccessful with both methods. I'm using VS 2008 SP1?
Is there a way to launch a Modeless Dialog that stays active even when a Modal Dialog is launched? Can I put the Modeless Dialog in a seperate Thread or something like that?
I often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.
See code below :-
'Update login forms user list as new user added successfully frmRoomBookingLogin.cboLogin.DataSource = Nothing frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text = "Updating password from dialog" MessageBox.Show("The password text is " & frmRoomBookingLogin.txtPassword.Text)
[code]....
The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
I have an assignment due this week in which I have to make a app that has 5 buttons and a picture box. When each button is clicked it has to show the corresponding picture in the picture box, the fifth button closes the app.
I have the whole form set up the way it should be, but I have no idea how to write the code to make the buttons display the images and close the app.I have the images in a folder within the project folders.
I have yet to be able to find one, the one I found should how to do it using a file opener dialog and a folder browser dialog but that is not what I think my prof wants us to do, as that is more for a picture viewer app that lets the user choose the file of the image they want ot view.
All i want is for the buttons to be linked to specific photos that are part of the application itself and have them open.
Is there a way to launch a Modeless Dialog that stays active even when a Modal Dialog is launched? Can I put the Modeless Dialog in a seperate Thread or something like that?
I have a Dialog that is basically a confirmation dialog on some SQL statements. After the dialog I have an if statement: If frmRelease.ShowDialog() <> Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel then.My buttons are set as DialogResult = OK and DialogResult = Cancel respectively on the dialog form.
For some reason, sometimes my button set to DialogResult = OK is returning me a DialogResult.Cancel, and causing me to skip a block of cleanup code.
