View 2 Repliesi am developing an application which i want to use to monitor all print command executed on each and every machine on the network.I would like to record the print documemt name the time, the date, the name of computer on which the print job was made.Bascially it will be like a transaction log/Activity log which will monitor all activities done via each computer.I have researched about this and got to know that i have to use this dll files PrinterQueueWatch_Licensed i have downloaded this but for some reasons i am not able to add these file to my references so that i can start using it.
View 2 RepliesA new client has recently asked me to develop a Windows service that will monitor whether or not his server has internet connectivity. The service should log when the connection goes down to Local Only and back up to Internet Access as shown in Network and Sharing Center.
My original idea was to have the service ping a website like google every 5 minutes or so, but I don't know how to retrieve the results of the ping, so I then thought I could code a WebBrowser control into it and write the log entries based on the results of connection attempts from that.
This also seems like a rather impractical idea though, so can anyone suggest the best way to go about this?

im trying to make an attendance monitoring system using vb.net 2005. i have a little experienced programming, i used vb6. But vb.net is much more different in vb6 because of its codes. my problem is that in dtpicker, it do not accept any value that came from a textbox.
my code is like this
dtpicker1.value = textbox1.text
but an error existed..then i coded like this hoping that it will work
dtpicker1.value.hour = textbox1.text

I am teaching myself how to work with SQL Server because I want these programs to work with electronic documents imported into SQL Server as opposed to messing around in a folder stuck on the desktop, for example. I have my program that runs from a workstation and the SQL DB is on the SERVER.I am having a lot of problem with it as the VB.NET program wont refresh the dataset.I would like to test the same by putting the SQL DB on a network drive, and run the program from another workstation.Just to narrow down the problem.My Question is this. I install the SQL DB on machine A and then install my program on Machine B?
What should I do to get Machine B to access the SQL DB on Machine A.Will sharing the SQL FOLDER be good enough for my program to access the DB of course, I have to modify the connection string on my program, but other that is there anything more to be done.

View 1 Repliesi have a NAS drive that is mapped to my system..My application will copy files to the drive but the only problem is the drive has a sleep function on it therefore when i try to copy files to it and it is in sleep mode, it says the folder does not exist (drive still in my computer but just with a red X on it)is there a function to make ir ready ? the only other way to do it is to double click the drive icon in my computer then it wakes up... but id rather not do this as its a pain.

We have HP Procurve network switches and I know that with a telnet application I can login to the switch and it will tell me which MAC address is connected to which switch port. Im trying to write a computer inventory program to track my computers and it would be really cool if I could figure out how to determine which computer is plugged into which port on the switch. Problem is that I have no idea how to go about doing that.
Is this anything anyone has tried before or does anyone know how to go about doing it?

I used the ODBC Data Sources admin panel to create a "data source" for an ".mdb" file. This was very easy. I can access the mdb (database) file via an ODBC driver, locally. However I need to access this data source over the network. Can anyone please help me learn how to make this same database available on the host's network interface? Perhaps there is a tutorial, video, or some other documentation that explains how to modify a data source to make it available on the network. I am using Windows XP. I hope this does not require a special Windows server distribution.
