View 4 Repliesim using vs to create a simple security form, i am successful to create a a form of log but i need some more improve like
1) if the software remain untouch for a minute the login form should be shown as the user try to use it again
2) and how the software start automatically when window start
In the company I work for we have a desktop application developed in .NET that we like to open up some parts for other software developers.
I see it like some kind of public methods that other software can access. Is there any standard approach, best practices or other experience of this?
I guess you could do this with Win32 calls, C/C++ programming etc. But I'm mainly a .NET developer and have some years of experience programmming in mainly VB.NET but also some C#. I hope finding a way to do this within .NET. But it should be accessible for software developed in other languages.
I figured it out. Check out the finished control [URL]..I'm trying to make myself a simple 'star rating' control.
It would have the properties:
StarCount (number of stars)
StarValue (number of stars highlighted)
I want to draw the stars using GDI+, have them highlight on mouse over, and change the StarValue when clicked.I have an idea on how to do this from experience with working with forms, but I'm having some difficulties with the Control development part. I couldn't find any tutorials which didn't inherit a control (such as a checkbox or button), and I have no idea how to make my control editable in the designer.
I think what I need to do is create StarCount as a property like this:
[Code]...
I also want to execute my drawing code at design time, so I can see the stars while laying out a form. as a side note to that, I don't know how to change the size of the control at run or design time, nor how to disable the user from changing it at design time.as a side note - I know that there are a few star rate controls already floating around the internet, but I do not like the quality of them (or at least the one's I've seen), they felt very windows 98. I'm trying to make something that will fit well into windows 7 (plus I want to implement custom images, but that can wait until I get it working)
I've built a couple of Apps successfully, but having published them to a Network Folder, Non-Admin Users can't install them themselves because the Install attempts to create an Entry in the Start Menu. There may be other Security issues (I need 4 of the permissions included if I publish it as a Partial Trust Applications, which I think affect this) after this point that I'm not aware of, but yeah, it fails when trying to create a Start Menu item -
+ Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsJameOStart MenuProgramsMynas' is denied.
I think excluding the right is just part of the SOE, but is there some way I can create this and have it NOT create a Start Menu item, haven't been able to find any?

I have been developing an antivirus using vb.net. The virus scanner works fine but I was thinking of ways to optimize the scanning speed (because large files take forever)
View 3 RepliesI am looking for a way to create a popup that will be shown like a 'somebody has come online' on msn , nod32 has 'scan results'. Howver I am unable to figure this out with 'tutorials' that dont work or projects that are out of date / canceled. I am looking for something thats being shown above all other apps that are open but without losing control over those apps. The fading etc is not that important I will figure this out when I get there.

Is it possible to create a custom start menu shortcut link?
The only possibilities I see in the setup project are shortcuts to folders or primary output.
Update:
What I ended up doing is creating a custom action on commit that dynamically creates the link using Windows Scripting Host. Then on uninstall, removing the link.
I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to build a program for a PC Business to check and see if an antivirus is installed, if not suggest some that are available, but im lost when it comes to trying to get my program to check and see if one is installed.
View 2 RepliesI have run into a problem with installing my software. Once the setup gets to installing the exe file the resident antivirus program is removing this file from the installation folder and placing it automatically in quarantine. Message comes up saying it may contain a virus, which is not the case. Seems this is a new feature of antivirus software. I do not want the end user to be configuring their antivirus quarantine to restore the file.

I'm working on a script/application to remove the old version of Norman installed in a windows network. To do this I have this tool called"Delnvc5. exe"..To remove the installed client I've now used "Delnvc5.exe /quiet". On some computers where the users have admin rights. But the problem is on computers with other policies where the user is not allowed to run this application so i made this..[code]When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

View 6 RepliesI have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

Visual Basic 2010 - Net Framework 4.0 Client
I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
Here's what I currently have:

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.

View 3 RepliesI am confused with the terms Build ,rebuild ,start , start without debugging in VS.NET.After writing the code what actually we want to do .We have to run directly by pressing F5 key or we have to build the solution .Usually i tried to run the application after coding and if shows any any errors i will fix that and run again .I never used build or rebuild thing .What exactly meant by building the solution .What is meant by rebuild and start without debugging.
View 5 RepliesHow can I get my application to load the Sub Main at the start rather than loading a form on start up.
I have tried declaring 'Public Sub Main' on my forms and in some modules, yet in my project properties, it is not one of the options.
How can I make it so when a button is clicked it will make the program start on start-up but only if the checkbox is checked?
View 9 RepliesI know that to start a program at startup, we should add this subkey
"C:Program Files<myprogram's path><nameoftheprog>.exe"
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
Alright!
But the problem is when my program has to delete a certain file in C:/ at startup, it just can't because it's not ran as administrator!
