View 1 RepliesSo having read some of the PostSharp documentation presented as an answer to my previous question regarding passive logging ([URL]), I am led to my next question: Where is a good place to start learning about Aspect Oriented Programming - I've done some searches on Google and I've read some articles - including the article regarding the topic on Wikipedia, but a lot of the material seems to assume you have a basic understanding of some of the terms which I seem to be missing, and that which doesn't just dives straight into integration leaving me not understanding what exactly it is I'm integrating.
Does anyone have any decent material targeted at someone who's never heard of Aspect Oriented Programming before today learn about the core concepts, terms/keywords etc? Even a birds-eye - i.e. These are the core concepts, keywords to look out for, what they stand for and how they fit together. After that, I can probably make some decent headway on my own. I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

View 8 RepliesI have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
I avidly create games in VB.net. Being a hobby programmer I give my games away for free. Since I'm a hobbiest without formal training I do try and educate myself on proper programming principles and follow them when programming such as OOP. There are however some things I have obviously missed being self-taught that perhaps I would know if I were formally educated. Once such issue that has really been my bane is how different classes (from now on referred to as objects) 'know' about each other WITHOUT programming specific interaction.
Okay imagine this, you have a space game and the following objects

Now each one of these objects has a Health, X,Y and Z private members and properties that are all inherited from clsSpaceEntity for argument sake. Now one way of programming collision between them would be to code out the following logic in the main game loop

Now this might seam okay if your talking about the simple example above but some of my games have tens or even HUNDREDS of objects that interact in this basic way. Is there a way in OOP to do the following... for each thing that inherits from clsSpaceEntity check against every other object that inherits this type (except itself) and if they collide then reduce health next? This sort of ability for a type of objects/class or whatever to be 'aware' of another and how they are the same/different and interact would save me tonnes and tonnes and TONNES of coding.

View 36 RepliesI am writing an application that in the end needs to execute another executable at some point, the problem is that the executable has dependencies in the directory it runs in that are required to operate. When I use the Process.Start to run the executable it errors out because it's looking for the dependencies in my applications directory.
I tried the startInfo.WorkingDirectory option but that didn't seem to do it either (not sure if I did it right) - here is how I used that:

I have a form where the user chooses a facility and then the list of patients for that facility are displayed in a data grid view. When I click to add a resident, the last name field on the data grid view is highlighted in blue below the last record that already exists.If I try to start typing without clicking in that cell, the facility changes - it looks like the control is still in the facility drop down box. How can I code it so that the user can just start typing in the data without having to physically click in the cell to start entering data?
My intentions are to add command line switching. I am trying to see if i could run my application in varoius ways i.e.

We only have few meetings for Computer subject that's why time did not permit us to discuss timer codes.
