IDE :: Changing Language Of Windows 7 To Coincide With Non-unicode Applications?
Aug 23, 2011
I want to know if it's possible to change the display language of Windows 7 ( in Spanish) to English and if so how to do it.
I'm having conflicts with non-unicode applications and showing error codes. This is a new computer with everything in Spanish, I'm attempting to put all possible in English.

have created a text editor, but I want to upgrade it with some serious functionality and userbility.
I have done most of the things that I had planned, but I have also come up with an idea that I am not too sure on how to code.
I have created a dialog box which opens when you click the options menu item in the menu stip control, I have customised this dialog box so the user can change display modes and so on but now I want to be able to change the language of the entire application as in from the default English (american) to French, German and so on.
When the user changes the language selection I want the text in the menu bar, the title of the app and the text of whatever is in the text box of the app.
I have created check boxes for the language selections, and invoked the check box click handle events but not sure how to proceed with the rest of the code.

I am using a System.Net.HttpWebRequest class to download source-codes from a website, in an ASP .NET application.
The problem is however, that the ASP .NET server hosting my application is located in the United States. This means that when the application downloads source-codes of a specific page, the page being downloaded thinks that it needs to send the United States version of the page itself.
I need that to be customizable.

I am in the process of testing my application on different language versions of XP and Vista.I notice that some containers size differently in the chinese version of the OS. This is particularly noticeable with panels which always appear to be about 10% smaller in height. The width is ok, its just the height that is changing. I can overcome the problem by making sure that all controls within the container are placed towards the top but it then doesn't make the UI look as good when running under English versions of the OS.

I have a windows form I want to show in two languages. When the user clicks a language button it switches to the other language.
It works fine, when you click it all the labels change to the other language.
Only problem is labels inside a group box do not change.

I am working on moving applications from Windows 2000 to new server Windows 2003 R2(64 Bit). I noticed that there are some VB programs and config files for those programs have been placed in Windows 2000 Registry. Some other applications are using them from different servers. Why do we use registry here? How can i move these to registry in windows 2003? Can I just move these or do I have to write VB programs to place them in 2003 registry?

I have an application that saves some text to a text file as unicode. When I run the application on a US English windows XP everything is fine, but when running on a system with Chinese version of XP, the file is saved as ANSI. Below is a code snippet showing UnicodeEncoding Does anyone know why Chinese Windows would save as ANSI instead of unicode?
Dim info As Byte() = New System.Text.UnicodeEncoding().GetBytes(txtScenDetails.Text)
fs.Write(info, 0, info.Length)

As I said, I have a vb.net application which runs perfectly fine on Windows XP EN. However, it becomes problematic when run it under Windows XP in German Language. I have a string type in app.config file, it stores a color's RGB value "0,102,255" as a string. When the application starts loading, I will grab that value as a string and use ColorConverter object to convert it to a color as shown the following
Dim oConverter As New ColorConverter
Dim oColor As Color = CType(oConverter.ConvertFromString(My.Settings.MyColorString), Color)

I created a VB application in VS2010 using Win7 x64 that performs numerous integer type calculations and displays various results to the user. I have discovered that users running Windows with a different language pack than I developed the App in have problems with how some numbers are displayed and with some of the calculations. Can someone point me to suggestions I can take to ensure the calculations work and numbers display properly regardless of the Windows UI language of the user?

I have a scenario that has been troubling me for years. If you have to connect to a database or other service (like a web service) using a username and password, where would be the safest place to store this information if you are connecting through a .NET assembly? I understand that you would have to encrypt the password, but then you run into a kind of chicken-egg problem -- fine -- you can encrypt it, but then where do you put the key?In .NET, you can't hardcode the password because you can decompile .NET code.
I looked at using assembly based rights with Isolated Storage, but MS recommends against storing unencrypted secret items there because priveledged users can gain access, so again, we are moving the problem from point A to point B. So for examplem, a domain admin with no need to know about the information in a database would be able to get access because of the ability to be an admin on any workstation on the domain. You can encrypt App.Config and Web.Config, but I believe priveledges users can access the keys. I think you run into the same problem with DPAPI.
I had considered storing the passwords, encrypted in a remoted database and getting them through OS authentication, but our department prohibits the storage of passwords on database servers. I am pretty sure I am stuck and wanted confirmation.

I have an application (.net 3.5 app) that depends on odp.net (11g). I had installed the odp.net on the production machine, i deployed my binaries. The program works fine, however it displays an error like this:This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. The machine has Windows 2003 R2 as OS. This error occurs on the catch Oracle Exception block of my code. The program is supposed to display a message box indicating the error. It works as expected in my development machine..

I'm a first time visitor and poster, but I'm definitly going to stick around. I'm running an old version of Visual Studio .Net Academic 2002 and the .Net framework 2.0. I'm stuck on an issue regarding the deployment of a few programs I've thrown together. They all work fine on my development machine, but the problem they all use SQL Server databases, and I can't find any specific help on deploying a windows application with a database on a machine that isn't set up basically just like my development machine.
I know that I need the .net runtime bootstrapper on the target machine, so I can run basic programs that dont use SQL databases. That's no problem. But what about programs that make heavy use of databases? How does one go about deploying it on target machines? Is there a SQL server bootstrapper?
