I have this issue that occurs with me and driving me crazy i have a report that contains thousands of records and i need to export it to excel , but the excel normal extension .xls
is showing missing records at the end of the file , so i save my file as an .xlsx extension it saves correctly but when i open the file it generates an error
"Excel cannot open the file '<var>filename</var>.xlsx' because the file format for the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."but when i test the file i drag it and open it in an empty notepad all the records shows up correctly
I am creating an Excel Add-In using Visual Studio 2010. My intention was to add a context menu to a cell and perform some action on the selected cell or cells. Here is the code I have got as of now
[Code]...
I know that there are millions of posts about this already but I cant seem to find one that mirrors my issue. I am using VS2010 and want to automate excel and I'm trying to work through the example here.
MS Tutorial The problem is when I go to add the reference as mentioned 3.Add a reference to the Microsoft Excel Object Library. To do this, follow these steps: -On the Project menu, click Add Reference. -On the COM tab, locate Microsoft Excel Object Library, and click Select.There is no such reference available.
know if this is the right way to automate excel with VS2010.If it is could someone please let me know why I dont have the COM option for excel. im wanting to write in VB.net but if someone has an example in C# that would be fine. I have tried implementing automation using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application dll but i get the following exception when I try to create the excel application.
This line generates the error. EXL = New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application()This is the exception
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
I've created a service and ran it successfuly after a valid installation. however when i try to debug the service (not the OnStart function but a timer function i created) i get the following error: "cannot start service from the command line or a debugger.A windows service...").
The actions i made are (im using VS2005):
1. start the service
2. debug->start debugging
3. processes ->attach to process -> [select my service]-> attch
I can do this using VBA, but I want to be able to create the code using a compiled VB programme, which can then be opened in Excel.
View 1 RepliesIn VB.Net I am attempting to use Office Automation starting in Access; then to Excel.I am having difficulty finding the References in VB.Net which will permit me to upgrade my VBA code to VB.Net.For example in VBA the code line: Application.SysCmd(acSysCmdSetStatus, Space(75))
In VB.Net, I cannot find "acSysCmdSetStatus." Error message = Name "acSysCmdSetStatus" is not declared
Following are my Imports:

I am trying to create a custom vb.net Excel 2007 function (UDF) using VS 2010 and have gotten to this stage (borrowing heavily from Eric Carter's example at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/eric_carter/archive/2004/12/01/273127.aspx):

I create some files in VB.net from a master file but when I try to open the newly created file, Excel starts and nothing is displayed, you can see the outline of Excel and it's menus and nothing else. You can't do anything with excel except close the entire application. [Code] It is upon trying to re-open where it fails, outside of the VBE. I have not had a problem like this using VB6 before, so I am assuming I am doing or not doing something.
View 3 RepliesI created a vb.net RTD server as explained in the link below in vb 2008 express. [URL]. But this link gives no indication of how to register the dll on another machine. I tried to register the dll using regasm, but it still doesn't work. (I keep getting #N/A s).
View 1 RepliesI am trying to retrieve an excel chart (created out of .net), which i have earlier copied to the clipboard.As long as I work with type bitmap I can copy/retrieve it as follows:
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlBitmap)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.Bitmap)
Unfortunately, the quality of the bitmap is rather bad, thus I would like to copy it as a Metafile. The copying works, but the retrieving will only return Nothing.
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlPicture)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.MetaFilePict) ' returns Nothing!
I have checked if the object is available in the clipboard using GetDataPresent and it shows that there is a metafile available. Still, it returns nothing.On a side note: Is there a way to avoid using the clipboard? After all I am creating the charts in .NET and I need them there as well. Could I access the image of the chartobject directly?
I want to use icon files that reside outside of Excel on my Excel toolbars for macro buttons I have created (I don't want to use the customizing function within Excel, but rather, icons that have already been created). In some prior life, I have done this and have some neat-looking icons on the Excel that resides on my desktop. I don't know how I did it, but I know it's doable!
Alternatively, if someone could tell me how to copy over the customized Excel setup, that would work too. I tried copying over my "Book 1" file, but got a message about macro security and digital certificates.
I have 2 blocks of code, if someone could help me put them together I would get the functionality I am looking for. The first block of code downloads a gridview to excel using the download dialog I am looking for:
Public Overloads Overrides Sub VerifyRenderingInServerForm(ByVal control As Control)
' Verifies that the control is rendered
End Sub
Private Sub ExportToExcel(ByVal filename As String, ByVal gv As GridView, ByVal numOfCol As Integer)
Response.Clear()

View 2 RepliesIn one application, I need use 4 simultaneous threads.When the threads finished, I need to update the text of a TextBox.So, I create 4 Textbox, and I wanna the threads change the text to FINISHED.Each thread change one distinct TB.I use this "example"
Dim Terminados As Integer = 0
Private Sub frmEnviarMensagem_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Timer1.Enabled = True
Timer1.Start()
[code]....
The problem is, I have an error in the red lines.The error is: INVALIDOPERATIONEXCEPTION "Cross-Thread operation not valid: Control tbPlaca1 Accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on."I don't use cross threading. Each TB only was accessed for the correspondent thread, and for the "main program".
This is the error message I am getting:
"Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Panel1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." The reason I am getting this error is because I am opening up a new form and then calling these three things:
Panel1.Show()
Label1.Show()
Label2.Show()
why I get this error message because it doesn't occur normally if I open Form2 after closing Form1, it only occurs when I open Form2 after closing Form4.
I have done a program using vb2005 to display reading from my microcontroller bs2 board but have encountered some problems. My code are as follows.
Dim Stop_Rx As Boolean
Private Sub btnRead_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRead.Click
SerialPort1.Open()
[code]....
I've encounter an error which is, (Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'txt1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.)
When my client try to connect to server I'm getting this error : Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'l_users' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
Private Sub _socketManager_onConnectionAccept(ByVal SocketID As String) Handles _socketManager.onConnectionAccept
l_Users.Items.Add(SocketID)
End Sub
Would anyone be able to help me here please. I'm fairly new to VB.net and threading so im just trying to figure out what is happening.When I debug this I am getting the error thread operation not valid: Control 'ProgressBar1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
I'm a little lost as to why the error is occuring or how to fix it. I've had to put the progress bar in a separate thread otherwise the GUI crashes

I have written an application that loads a form - frmCad as well as AutoCad. It does this via a class which detects when AutoCad quits.
Friend Class CadApp Private WithEvents AppObject As AcadApplication... Private Sub AppObject_BeginQuit(ByRef Cancel As Boolean) Handles AppObject.BeginQuit RaiseEvent Quit() End SubEnd Class
My main class loads frmCad as well as CadApp.
Public Class Cad Private WithEvents frmCad As CadForm Private WithEvents app As CadApp... Public Sub ShowForm() If frmCad Is Nothing Then frmCad = New CadForm frmCad.Visible = True End Sub... Private Sub app_Quit() Handles app.Quit frmCad.Dispose() frmCad = Nothing .... End Sub
When I debug the program, it stops at frmCad.Dispose()The program continues to execute, but all the code after it fails to work.Looking more carefully I get an error message which contains:-Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Autocad' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
My error:Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'label2' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on. I want to be able to give my Public RunBot() sub access to edit Labels, buttons, etc without an error.

i used it and it works fine then. but as it is mentioned its not a good practice to use it. So what should i do? is it ok if i use this as i am not able to use correct practice. Mine application is not for enterprise purpose. its just my class project, and it works fine even if i put application working in background. System works ok. I dont know how to correct this error.As i dont have that much knowlege of threads.
So please guide me how to fix this in correct way otherwise i am force to go for bad programming practice

I am currently working on a school project in VS2010. I have added a .exe file in the project folder and added it to the Project as a 'Existing Item'. In Project Properties -> Publish -> Application Files the .exe file is shown.
The .exe file runs quite nicely when I use the Process.Start("C:\NameOfMyApplicationFolder\MyProgram.exe") hard code path to the .exe file. However, I am faced with two(2) challenges that I need to overcome. These are they:
1. If published on another machine the .exe file will not run as the hard code path to the .exe file will be different from that on my machine. Therefore I need a way to create a generic path to the .exe file. I have tried these [Process.Start("C:\|DataDirectory|\MyProgram.exe")] AND [Process.Start("Localhost\|DataDirectory|\MyProgram.exe")]; I got an error message that "The system cannot find the file specified".
2. I am putting the Process.Start("xxxxx.\MyProgram.exe") on a button click event. I also want to put the running of the .exe file between two(2) lines of code. The first line of code is basically asking "Do you wish to run the executable file" - YesNo. If 'Yes' is selected the .exe file is run. Here is the problem: When the .exe program is closed the second line of code is to be executed. I have gotten the .exe to run (using the hard code file path) when 'Yes' is selected, and the second line of code to execute if 'No' is selected, but I have not been successful in getting the second line of code to execute after closing the .exe program. I have tried this: [If Process.Start("C:\NameOfMyApplicationFolder\MyProgram.exe").CloseMainWindow = True Then Do line 2 End if]. nothing happens when I close the .exe program.
here is a copy of my current code. Am trying to open an existing Excel spreadsheet then retrieve the old balance data refigure the new balance and store new data into the spreadsheet. Am I on the right tracK, or way out in left field?

It then saves them as (number from main excel) & date/time stamp and corresponding extension. I want to be able to list the created documents according to the number from the main excel workbook.
