I'm trying to run a program that runs fine on XP OS, but it won't run on Vista. I've tried to install msinet.ocx in the system32 folder, but it never works.I've tried to register with regsvr32 but it gives error,I've tried to register with regsvr32 with cmd as administrator it's register the Activex Control but it gives error " Unexpected error ".

It does not work if I remove the exe from the application folder and put in some other folder. My intension is to keep my dll and ocx in system32 folder and exe in application folder.

I have multiple versions of an app that uses a dll, I have to replace the dll with the correct version and register it. The plan was to delete it from system32, and copy over the relevant version, then register it.
Let me start this again. I just started working at a company and this company sells customer label printers and its software. The printer drivers are not designed well and creates problems between version updates. When a customer calls in and compalins that are some communication problems, we have to login to their computer and remove printer, it's drivers and driver files that gets installed into system32 folder.
So, my goal was to have the customer download a file , run it and remove these files before they download the latest files.[code]...

View 2 RepliesI have an application I made and I created a Setup Project so I can install it on other systems and it almost works perfectly. It doesn't install over older versions even though I have that option set to True. So I decided to look into publishing to a website since it seems you can have the application look for new updates which is what I want since I'm still in testing and the source code is changing frequently. I found the Build -> Publish Application option but it won't upload to the site. Also, is this the right approach to accomplishing what I want?

View 4 RepliesSo I wrote a VB.net project in Visual studio.I have a scheduled task that is set to run the program every morning at 10AM. If I use windows explorer and double click the application, it runs fine.If I open task scheduler, open the task properties, and browse to the application, then choose run, the program fails, due to Runtime exceptions.I know I have the path entered correctly, since I can debug the instance when it crashes from the task scheduler. VS2010 pulls up my source code.The exception is System.IO.FileNotFoundException, remember, it works fine when I double click the app. If attach a debugger to the process after it is executed from the task scheduler, I can then restart the debugger, and Voila!, The application runs fine.
View 1 RepliesI've written a very simple program that writes a tiny "config.cfg" (text) file to the computer (using StreamWriter), and a second program that is supposed to read that data back.
Unfortunately, it appears you can't save to the same folder as your program under Win7 ("Program Files (x86)" is a restricted folder.) So instead, VB automatically saves my data to the "C:Users(myname)AppDataRoaming..." folder. This is annoying, but tolerable.
PROBLEM IS: How does my second app then FIND my data file (without doing a time-wasting drive search every time the program is run?)

I tried using the cmd("cmd.exe", "sdclt.exe") and just "sdclt.exe" But when i use the cmd, it just opens the command window, but not the program. When i use just sdclt.exe, it does nothing.

2. Make assembly COM visible

my vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder.Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?
