String Or Binary Data Would Be Truncated - Statement Terminated

This gets data from Excel and puts it into a table. The first 2 rows of data are placed into the table. All the fields columns are the same type and nothing is larger than it should be name is varchar(30) team is varchar(3) pos is varchar(2) rest are int or double. I place an i in front of integers s in front of string and so on. The 3rd row crashes with the following message at Command.ExecuteNonQuery() String or binary data would be truncated. C# - Write Binary Data "as Is" To Registry (visible Binary Data As String From Regedit Only)

Feb 23, 2011

I have been googling this and have not come along a working solution for an entire day. I don't know anything about binary data types (as I've never knowingly used them) and I'm trying to write a binary value that I see in the registry, to the registry. Now, all I see is the following [shown below]... and if I try to pass that as a string to the RegSetValueEx in the WinAPI and of course it errors out...

I do not know what 'numbers' I need to pass into the lpData As Any, argument of RegSetValueEx (i tried a bit array) in order for it to come out as the following [shown below] in the regedit. I really have no idea, and my tests to place random numbers in the bit array just produce corresponding random "figures" as visible in regedit that I do not understand how to 'tie' them together logically. here is the culprit!

Insert Command - Record Is Not Added Without Any Type Of Error

Jun 22, 2010

I am a beginning programmer and am having a problem with adding a record to a customer table in a Microsoft Access database. I have worked for hours reading my textbook and troubleshooting to no avail. When I execute this code below the record is not added and I do not get an error of any type. When I go into debug mode, all of the parameters are correct and everything looks good. If I open up Access I can manually add the record but using my program nothing happens. All datatypes are string in VS and text in Access.

First an instance of the Customer Class is created and this seems to be successful. But when I take that customer object and run the AddCustomer method of the customer class it is not successful in that the database does not reflect that the record was ever added. [Code]

Finding And Replacing Data In A Binary String (or File)?

Feb 9, 2010

I have a binary file. If I look at it with a hex editor, the first values are:208, 207, 17, 224, 161, 177, 26, 225, 0, 0, 0, ... etc.It has a length of 330240 bytes I have tried to open it and read it into a string so I can manipulate it and write it back. No matter what I use, I either don't get the correct number of bytes or the values in the string are incorrect. The most common error results in the first values being: 63, 63, 17, 63, 63, 26, 0, 0, 0 .... etc.It is interesting that it appears that any value > 63 becomes 63.

I get the 2nd values by a simple loop:

For lnx = 0 To 99
Debug.Write(Asc(line.Substring(lnx, 1)))
Next

I have tried a whole number of ways to read in the file, including filestream, My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText, File.io.readAllLines, etc.All either give me a string length of about 324000 (not sure why) or, if they do, don't have the correct values. Yes, I have tried various encoding options.

I need to find a string (sort of like: "D" & Chr(0) + "L" & Chr(0) + "S" & Chr(0)... ) so I can then replace that portion of the string with a new value, then write out the file.I use the ".indexOf" to find the data in the string. Why can't I load the file into a string? Or, do you know of an easy way to find some text (similar to above) in a file and then replace the next x number of bytes with a new value and close the file?

Get Record Number In Binary File?

Recently I experiment with the binary file type. I have this structure[code]...

It works. And now, in the load event of the form I want to know, how many records (structures) are stored in the file.

Another question: how can I search and seek in the file (structure to structure, not byte to byte)?

Read A Record In A Binary File?

Oct 3, 2010

To read a record in a binary file in VB^ I would define a type with all the fields specifying strings as STRING * whatever the length of the field was.

For example:
Type Record
Field1 as string *15
Field2 to as string * 20
Field3 as String * 10
field4 as byte(10)
End Type
Dim filerecord as record

I would the open my binary fiel and do a Get#1,, filerecord

The record would be read and all the fielsd would be in place.

Now with the new Structure we cant dimension an array in the Structure And wjhen declaring strings we can't specify the length.

I tried to create structire and use a stream binary reader. and just read afixed number of bytes into the type, The program says it canvert bytes to my fiels.

So how do I do this. Or has Microsoft in their infinite wisdom left no way to do this.

Insert Data Into An Object And Have It Spit Out A Json Formatted String?

Mar 28, 2011

I am looking for a vb.net library where I can insert data into an object and have it spit out a json formatted string, and also take the string in again to rebuild the object.I am not that concerned with mapping it to preexisting objects.I have searched around and every single library I've found either can't read the strings in again, interprets them as one long string instead of breaking them up into parts, or fails to work entirely (asp.net can't even find any public members).

Random File Access - Using Binary Sort Method To Find Record

Dec 24, 2011

I have a flat file that is sorted by account number. I am migrating an application that was in vb6 to .Net. The application uses Random file access and uses a binary sort method to find a record.

Here is the code
Do While (low < high Or low = high) And (f = 0) 'Checking for an account match
middle = (low + high) / 2
FileGet(FileNum, Record, middle)
If Account < Trim(Mid(Record.Data, Byte1Start, Byte1Len)) Then
[Code] .....

From reading up on this in .Net it seems that using the Binary Reader seek method would be the alternative to using old vb6 random access code. The problem is the Binary Reader Seek method goes by Byte position instead of record number. How to convert my code to use a binary reader.

Foreign Key Constraint Error / Parent Record Does Exist But Won't Let Child Record Be Created

Feb 21, 2010

While I've previously many years of relational databases and procedural languages, I'm stumbling with Visual Basic. In this problem, the simple situation is that I have two files, parent and child. The primary key of the parent file (Area file) is linked by a relation to one of the two fields that makes up the primary key in the child file (Project file) (unique key is formed from 'area' and 'project'). I have the default table adapters created on both files. I have created two maintenance forms showing one each of the two files in datagrid view format.I can create some records in the Parent (Area) file, but when I try to create a record in the child (Project) file, using one of the valid key values from the Area file, I get the 'ForeignKeyConstraint [relation name] requires the child key values [actual value] to exist in the parent table' which I'm absolutely definitely sure it does.

I haven't done any actual coding for those two maintenance forms, just dragged-and-dropped the files from the data sources screen onto separate forms so it creates the controls itself. But I can't work out, if it already knows the data does exist because I can load it back in to the Area maintence form, why it can't check itself to find out the record does exist. Why does it think the record from the parent record doesn't exist? It does exactly the same thing, whether or not the database is in access or SQL Server Express. I have all the latest updates.

VS 2010 MsgBoxStyle - YesNo - Show The "record Has Been Added" And Save/insert Data Even If Chose "no" Button

Here's the scenario: If "Yes" (button) will be clicked, it'll save the data and clear the fields. If "no" (button), it'll clear the fields and shouldn't save anything.

Here are the codes:

Convert A String Containing A Binary, Octal And Hex Number Into A Decimal String?

I'd like to convert a string which contains a decimal number into string that contains the binary value, the octal and the hexadecimal value of that decimal number.Afterwards I also like to convert a string containing a binary, octal and hexd. number into a decimal string.Basically I'm looking for the functions:

dec2bin
dec2oct
dec2hex
bin2dec
oct2dec
hex2dec

I'd not prefer to rewrite a function, I'm sure the framework must have these functions already.
