Apr 14, 2011I have a form where two fields on the first page of the form make up the primary key. I want to check for duplicate values before attempting to insert the record, since I don't want the user to go all the way through the form only to find out they can't submit it. So I'm trying to check for duplicate values when the user tries to go to the next page of the form. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, and sure enough I'm getting an error. ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") The problem is apparently in my if statement, "If myValue.Length > 0 Then", but I'm not sure what needs to be in place of that.

I'm having issues checking if the number of rows returned from my Select is equal 0? Also i'm wondering should i be checking for an exception and open/closing my connections each time i make a call to my DB or is the way i have it coded below OK?

Dec 12, 2010I am working with some DBF database files and have an interesting dilemma. I need to search through a table, find duplicates and delete them. Problem... Table doesnt contain a key.
So Table looks like this:
Name, BadgeNum
I need to be able to find instances like this:
John, 10
John, 10
and then delete just one iteration of John, 10.
Is this even possible? A "DELETE FROM TABLE WHERE BadgeNum=10" will delete both.....

Jun 28, 2010I have a csv file that I need to import into a sql table, this portion is working correctly. The code grabs the data, displays it in a datagridview and then imports it into the sql table. What I need to do is add an additional field that will automatically number itself by the amount of rows inserted at that perticaular moment. Let me explain a little clearer. The data I grab from the csv file is a day snapshot broken down to the hour. So lets use todays date 6/28/2010 will be broken down in the csv file like this:
